Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Robin Scott;

I wanted to thank you for taking the time to send a card and little gift to remember my mom.
I know that things between us have been strained since the reunion. However, if I have learned anything this past two years, it's that "life is to short" to waste the time being angry or upset with people that have been a big part of your life.

I would love to put the past behind us and just let it go. I'm very sorry for anything I have said or done to hurt you. Let's let by gones be by gones and get back on track.

Life is hard enough in this day and age. It's amazing how you can lose someone you love so much, and after all the whirlwind of their sickness, their passing away, their burial, then it's just like everything in life keeps on going. I am still having trouble getting my head around it. I had a few days where I wanted to say, "Hey world STOP my mom just died", kinda funny but really how I felt.

I'm starting a brand new job tomorrow, I wasn't looking for a job but they came to me and made me a pretty darn good offer, and my family thinks it would be really good for me......so I am going to give it a try and see how it goes.

Hope to hear from you again.
Love,
Lynne

Mike Lampman

Hi guys. I know it's been a long time since I posted something. Things have just been absolutely crazy. But,
Lynne, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom passing away. I have been there with both of my parents and I attended a colleague's memorial on Saturday. And you're right, it's hard to realize that life goes on and they won't be walking through your door any more like they've done for years. Totally surreal...for me. My friend died after hearing 2 months ago that she had stage 4 panceatic cancer. Those 2 months seem to zoom by.....and there was nothing we could all do to slow things down. But, her memorial service was soooo well attended and well done with unlimited "I remember when she did this or said that". I really had to collect myself a number of times during the service. So all we can do is to try to cry a little less each day, put one foot in front of the other and remember the good times. I hope this finds everyone well. aloha

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Hi Mike

I am sorr for your loss as well. You really hit the nail on the head with some of your comments, it's nice to know that others understand when you are going thru something like this.

Being offered a position with the place where my mom lived for two months has been a little blessing in disguise, I think! Today was my first day, as their new Director of Marketing. It will at least give me something to do with all my spare time now. However, layig around the lake house and boating seem to be more of what I had in mind....lol

So glad to hear from you my friend and know that you are well.

Take care,
Love,
Lynne

Has anyone heard how Jim Smith is doing?

03/17/10 09:49 PM #2972

Lorene BuSteed (Householder)

Well Lynne the shower was amazing, all in all there were about 40 people in attendance. April was showered like a princess. Her aunties and cousin did an amazing job with all the details right down to the double heart cake that my sister Brenda made.

Guess I will be going to Vegas in April with the Bride to be and guests. Don't know why she wants her mom there but I will go. Don't know if New York New York is ready for all of this women.

How is the new job coming along. Remember, just like Mike said, "Take one step and then another" more or less. LOL

How is everyone else doing beside being on Facebook and playing all those games. I just don't have time to do all those game things. Sorry So lets hear a little bit from all of you. Don't be shy, just a one liner will do.

What's new in the world yee Pirates of 1968.

That is all for now folks, I will be checking back in real soon. Kinda sounds like the Mickey Mouse show from years ago. LOL

See Ya!

Love Always,

Lorene

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Looks like my husband and I will be making a trip to Wyoming to see Dorothy Smaller-Abler and Joel. My dad is donating my moms electric scooter to Joel. It will be a nice little trip, plus Dorothy and I will be able to give one another a much needed hug.

Let's all keep Dorothy and Joel in our prayers, Joel is not doing very well right now. So, let's add them to our list.

Still waiting to hear any news on Jim Smith????

Lynne

03/22/10 03:10 PM #2975

Mike Lampman

Sooo, Lynne, how long is it going to take you to get to Wyoming in this electric scooter. This thing can't go very fast....can it? Plus, what are you and your husband going to do in that thing if it rains?

03/22/10 06:59 PM #2976

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Well, Mike we were thinking since we are from Idaho we can just put a big blue tarp on top of us and hold it up with PVC pipes if it starts to rain. The trip will take quite a bit Geez, now look what you started.....

03/23/10 01:44 PM #2977

Lorene BuSteed (Householder)

Lynne, don't forget to pack the potatoes on your electric cart. Ya, make sure that you can stop ever so often to plug the scooter in.

03/23/10 10:19 PM #2978

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Oh my gosh guys, by the time I get the blue tarp on and then the sleeping bag and water, plus my back pack I don't know if I will be able to load those potoates on board. Wait, there is a little shopping basket that hooks on the front...hummmm? I'll work on it and see if I can make it work. Good thing I am only going to Wyoming and not So. CA.

Speaking of So.CA has the 50th reunion committee started to meet yet? Still curious of where we will be having our Big Reunion?

Let's see some more of you folks on here too.

03/24/10 08:48 AM #2979

Lorene BuSteed (Householder)

I have an idea for you Lynne. If you need more room for the potatoes, sleeping bags, food, water etc. Now you can always get yourself a red radio flyer wagon - hook it up to the back of the electric cart - you will then be set for your trip to Wyoming. Don't forget your maps though so that you can find all the rest areas to camp along the way or look for all the Walmarts - they like campers.

Lynne our 50th reunion would be in 2018 wow! I hope that we have a 45 instead we may not be walking at that time. LOL Ya know this turning 60 was not fun. Kissed off the 50's yuk. Seriously I don't feel any older, just the number sounds old. My grandson Nathan is who 10 looked at me and said you are "60" now grandma, now that made me feel old. Now if I would have been born in April like I was supposed to be, I would still be 59. Lol Maurene why did you kick me out in the 8th month? hummmmm

Still busy with all the wedding stuff. Got everything pretty much wrapped up. Now is the time to pay all the final payments - after that I will stand on the street corner with a sign. "Will work for food" LOL

Maurene and I will be off to Tyler Texas June 3rd for a few days to see her granddaughter graduate and by then her new grandson will be there. Oh she is going to Texas April 30 before the baby is born. She wants to spoil that little guy - I don't blame her, because I am going to spoil him when I see him in June.

So Lynne how is this 9 to 5 thing going on with you?

Ok you got a few words out of me, ya know I am so shy?

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Well, Mike and Lorene it looks like we are the only ones who have anything to say. Why doesn't anyone else chime in once in a while? I thought we all said at our 40 year and prior to our 40 year we wouldn't let this happen?
Come on, how is everyone doing?

I just lost my mom, my best friend and just started a new job and I find the time to write a few lines so hope I have guilted you guys all into writing a little bit.

Ta Ta for now.
Love ya,
Lynne

PS: Lorene, I am going out tomorrow to check on the wagon, sounds like a good plan.

Carol Maddex (Switzer)

Hi everyone....my time is pretty much taken up with taking care of my husband. These past few months have been life altering. I had Jim in rehab when he left the hospital on March 4th for 23 hours and 45 minutes....it was they most horrid place i have ever seen so I arrived at the rehab the next morning with instructions to have him released before the sun goes down, so i now have him home with Kaiser's Home Health Care....this is what i wanted in the first place. He has had several strokes in the past 2 months and his first one was in October. All this has effected his vision and walking. He depends on me for everything. Driving, walking, eating, changing cloths, etc. He is getting better slowly, and will be a long journey. He had to stop his chemo treatment till he gets stronger. He has lost so much weight but eats like a horse so go figure....My only outing is to get my nails done every 2 weeks, and now my step daughter come over so I can go to church on Sunday mornings. I thank all of you who have been keeping him in your prayers...this is the only thing that keeps us going...sorry i have not been keeping everyone informed but as you can see i am a little over whelmed at the moment. I had to quit my job so now i am offically retired, not in my timing but so glad I was in a position to do so to take care of Jim. Love you all....I am working on Going to Vegas in June...I need the time away and what better way then spend with great friends.

Oh by the way the next BIG PHS Class of 1968 reunion will be the 45 year in 2013, the survey we did at the 40th most of the classmates wanted the next to be again at 45 years.

Cheers to all,
Carol

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Hi Carol,
So good to hear from you on the site, even if the news wasn't the best. I have been praying for both of you as you go thru this journey in your lives. I know how hard it is, and every single day when you wake up and open your eyes there it is right in your face again. You just get up and start all over and do what you have to do to make their lives a little better if you can.

So sorry that re-hab was such a disaster, some of those places can be pretty darn scary.

If and when Hospice gets on board, remember they are there to help pay for any medications related to the diagnosis as well as provide, wheel chairs, beds, walkers and many other things.

I have learned so much from my experience with my mom, caring for her for over 3 years you finally get the hang of how some of these systems work.

I'm glad you are getting out and getting a little time for yourself.

Hang in there, I know it's not easy.
Love ya
Lynne

PS: So happy to hear that we are havnig a 45th reunion.

03/26/10 09:06 PM #2984

Dorothy Smaller (Abler)

Lynne, guess by the time you and Martin get the scooter here, it should have all the bugs worked out of it. The last Walmart is in Idaho Falls and nothing much until you get to Alpine, WY. It snowed today, so bundle up although the weather keeps changing. I did get Joel to get out today, we went to Burger King for lunch and the hardware store. First time he's been out since the first of the month. If you have no room for the potatoes, we also get Idaho potatoes here too...lol since we are so close to your state. I'm taking Joel to Idaho Falls on Tuesday to his doctor. It's a nice drive, so hope it doesn't snow again. Will see if the lake has thawed.
Be seeing you soon! Hello to Mike and Lorene!

03/26/10 09:07 PM #2985

Dorothy Smaller (Abler)

Forgot to say hello to Carol, but I do remember to keep you and Jim in my prayers everynight. Sorry we won't be able to go to the Vegas reunion this time.

03/28/10 04:54 PM #2986

Marcia Kraft (Barringer)

It was four years ago today that my sweet dad Ray passed away. I miss him every day. Three hours after my dad's passing, my grand niece HannahRae was born. The circle of life...

03/28/10 07:40 PM #2987

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Marcia,
Thank you for sharing you story, I don't think my heart will ever feel the same again.
Today I met up with a gal that I gave all my moms clothes too, it was hard but I am glad to be done.

I love you lots my friend,
Lynne

03/28/10 10:50 PM #2988

Pat Kuester (Bowen)

Marcia, It couldn't possibly have been 4 years ago. I'm sure it was only last year.

Mom fell again the other day. She didn't hurt herself this time, except for a couple of scrapes. I told the nurse, she said that if she keeps falling social services could say I was being negligent and put her in a long-term care facility. I told Mom to maybe scare her so she wouldn't try to get up by herself anymore. She just said we won't tell anybody the next time she falls.

03/29/10 04:58 PM #2989

Marcia Kraft (Barringer)

Lynne -- Thanks for the kind words. You're right - your heart will never feel the same; it will always be different.

Pat -- Maybe it's not a good idea to not tell them if she falls. If she has any new bruises and doesn't admit to falling, they may think you did it!!! Yikes! That would open another whole can of worms!

03/29/10 05:18 PM #2990

Pat Kuester (Bowen)

No kidding, I asked her if she didn't think the nurse would see any bruises and/or cuts. I don't think she'll try getting up by herself again. But who knows.
