Don Deyne

A literal breath of fresh air.

I've posted pictures (on my profile, will upload larger versions to picasa later today) of the smoke from the fires, taken from our front porch. 2 set taken 24 hours apart. Yesterday before noon, we didn't know about the fires so close to us (5-6 miles north and the same to the east) when we noticed it was suddenly much darker and we began to smell the smoke. Wind was coming from the east and the sky was solid smoke in every direction, except to the south there was a little sliver of blue sky toward the ocean. Today we can actually breath as the sky is solid blue except to the north and north east as the wind from the south pushed the fires up into the hills.

Everyone stay safe and if you're in the affected areas let us know you're ok.

Glad you're safe Don & Geneva, sounds like it was way to close. We live up here on the mountain where there is constant worry about fire. We have had fires very, very close to us but we have not had to evacuate yet. The planes get here very quickly and have been able to contain them within a very short time. It's still pretty scary.

Lorene, I will be there on Saturday. Steven won't. Guess if he doesn't have Lynne to pick on he doesn't want to come. Not really, he's going to go play golf with his brothers.

See you Sat.

Don & Genie,
I checked out your pictures - that smoke looked way to close - thank God you are safe - When we frirst moved here to Vegas we had 5 houses go up in flames - caused by some mean kids - that was so scarey - it was only 3 cul-de-sacs from us - please stay safe and lets us know how things are going.

Billie,
I had such a blast talking with you too. Oh my gosh all the reminiscing about our school years. Stu said he was sure we talked for at least 3 hours and he is probably right - but there is always so much to talk about with you and Marianna. Yes, we girls are going to have a blast and the guys will have fun too with their daytime activities. Marianna and I will have it all together by the time you guys arrive. Talk to you soon

Lorene,
I will be at Tom's Farms around 11:30 if we don't have more fires to block the freeways. Too close for comfort. I could see the smoke as plane as day in Brea Saturday as I was leaving work around 11:00. A few hours later we could hardly breath from the smoke. We just locked ourselves up in our house and put a towel around the front door to keep the smoke out. Jim with his cancer in his lungs we didn't take any chances of breathing problems.....All is well today. See ya Saturday

Carol

Carol, I know what you mean about the fires. I could not believe everything that was burned - wow. We drove the 91 through the canyon on Sunday to Costa Mesa. Just what people need at this moment with the problems everyone is facing in today's market.

Tom's Farm Gathering:
Great Carol, I will see you at Tom's Farm - Nov. 22 at 11:30 a.m.. Stephanie Eyler is also joining us.

Anyone else?

Take care all.

I wanted to give everyone a female's perspective of the Homecoming Game. Don is correct the stadium is very nice-state of the art, all aluminum bleachers (no splinters in the derriere) and very spacious. There are stairs and a ramp to access the bleachers. Genie Vasco was disappointed that the area under the bleachers is fenced off. She claims that there was always more excitement under the bleachers than on the field, and she should know (wink-wink).

The game was pretty exciting if you were rooting for Lynwood. But we gals did pretty much what we did in high school, we talked and gossiped throughout the game. Don had insightful comments about some of the plays, but we pretty much ignored him and kept gossiping. Luckily Don wasn't the only guy there, Mirtha's friend, Lonnie, was there also.

We're hoping that since Linda sits on the Paramount Unified School District school board, that she'll keep us informed about any other upcoming events. There is also a rumor that Mirtha might be cooking up something fun to do.

I'm not spillin the beans about Mirtha's idea, but I will say we had a bit of a preview Saturday. (They left Lonnie's handicapped parking permit in the back seat of our car so we had occasion to meet up with them for lunch)

Thanks Mirtha and Lonnie, lunch was fabulous!!!!!!

Hello Friends,

Sitting in a campground in Bakersfield, CA on our way back up North.

First of all I want to tell you how happy I am to hear that you are all safe from the horrible fires, I saw on TV while in Parker, AZ.

Isn't it amazing what those firefighters do? God Bless them!! My son just lost a firefighter friend in a house fire yesterday, he is pretty upset. You just never know, Walt was from the Detroit area. Please keep him and his family in your prayers, he was the father of 6 and only 37 years old.

Lorene,Molly, Betty, Phyllis, Carol, Stephanie and the rest of you guys I am so very sorry I am going to miss you at Tom's Farms. I so hoped to be able to see you all again, but we have to do what is best for my mom.

I got to spend some good time with my brother in Parker, AZ we went out on the river. It was great to share the memories of where we had camped and skied in the races while we were teenagers.
I then got to experience the trails on the 4 wheelers all over the desert, we even went to some of the old mines.

Well, I don't want to bore you too much. I've been away from this computer for so long I seem to be going on and on.

Love you my friends
Lynne
PS: Thanks to many of your for the phone calls of encouragement too.

Hi Guys,
Just got parked in Medford, OR reading the message board makes me so very sad that I am not going to get to be there with you at Tom's Farms? :-(
I wish you could all come up to Idaho this summer, how about a summer mini reunion at the lake house????

Lynne

Lynne, If at all possible, I will try to make it to Idaho this summer. I need to get with Nick and go over my vacation time options to see what we can do. We would love to see you again. What did you have in mind for a mini reunion there? And what time frame?

Marianna Brown (Schechter)

Peggy and Billie...

Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. I am just coming off of a 56 hour work week. The last couple of weeks have been horrendous.
First off let me explain...it is not a 'Who's Who', or maybe it is in a way. I have been nominated as the 'Outstanding Polysomnographic Technician for 2008' from Nevada for doing outstanding work ( I actually saved a woman's life who came in for a sleep study and her SAO2 dropped down to 43). I was nominated by 3 Doctors here in Las Vegas. 2 Pulmonologists and a Cardiovascular Surgeon. They have a national conference in June and I will find out then.
Along with keeping up with the changes and new guidelines that deal with Sleep Apnea, I have been taking some pretty extensive EKG classes. Did you know that our classmate Bill Haskell died from Sleep Apnea?
Billie, I am getting so excited about you coming out this spring! A "Girl's Day" is a must.

Marianna

Marianna,

Congratulations on your nomination. What an honor. You are most deserving. Did you take that exam you were talking about for your job? Hope things are going well for you. I agree with Billie. All work and no play is not healthy...Take care

Carol

Marianna,
Congratulations on your nomination. You work very hard at your job and very much deserve this recognition. Best wishes to you the in the finals.

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Phyllis,
I think it is safe to say that you can remove the white water rafting trip in Idaho from the web site, there isn't any interest in that. So, a mini reunion at the lake house just hanging out is still open. I would love to see you again and really get to know Nick a bit. I bet there are several of Nick's old LAPD buddies in my neighborhood.

I hope you all have a great time tomorrow at Tom's Farms, I'm going to miss you. However, I should be home tomorrow night and it won't be any time to soon.

Take care Pirates

No we haven't heard from Sandy for awhile. Miss her, she tells the funniest stories.

Just got back from Tom's Farms. We had a great time visiting and catching up. Pat Hamilton, Phyllis Willhite, Molly Lowe, Kathy Davies, Lorene BuSteed, Betty Haskins (class of 69), Stephanie Eyler (class of 69) and myself. As soon as I get the pictures off the camera I will send to our camera whiz, Pat Hamilton to post for us. When are we going to meet again? You all have a great week-end.

Carol

I had such a great time today at Tom's Farms and as always the time was much too short. Those of you who weren't able to make it missed a really fun time. We have so much to catch up on and too little time to do it. Can't wait for the next time.

Phyllis
