Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Billie,
Thanks for the nice comments, it was a picture perfect day out on the sleds and snowmobiles. We had such a good time.

Looks like we will be going to Yellowstone again on Jan. 5th for 5 days of wonderful snow mobling again. I can't wait, that is just the greatest place to go with the family.

Hope you had a great Christmas, can't wait to see some of your photos.

Love,
Lynne

So sorry Lynne, Lorene and Maurene that your parents are not doing well especially at this time of year when family is so important. You are all in my prayers.

Lynne some of us only dream of that wonderful white Christmas. I do have to admit I am strictly a So. CA girl. I lived in Washington State for 6 months and hated every minute of it. Doom and gloom. Part of it was that I was only 21 years old and away from my family for the first time in my life. Anyway your pictures are beautiful and it looks like you all had a great time.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and the best for the New Year.

First, Lorene and Maurene, I'm so sorry that your parents are both ill at the same time. I don't know how you can handle that . My Mom is 85 and very healthy and I thank God every night for her health and pray that it continues. Lynne, I keep your Mom in my thoughts as well. I honestly don't know how people live in the snow. The pictures are beautiful, but my joints are aching just looking at it. We had some snow in north Scottsdale (about 40 miles away) and we can feel the icy chill in the air outside and inside, since Don left the bathroom window open, again! Love being with all my family at Christmas but we should be the poster picture for the perfect disfunctional family. My daughter, Beth wanted some Bare Mineral make-up and while I was at it I also got her a new tube of red lipstick she likes. After we opened presents my husband wanted me to drop his allergy drops in for him under his tongue. This happens every night about 30 minutes after dinner. While I was dropping, my son wanted me to look at something he got and Beth put her lipstick on and Chris (the son who apparently still likes to provoke his sister) tells her she looks like a ho (hooker in our day). She wipes it off with a tissue and smears it and its "Mom, Chris called me a ho and my mouth is smeared and I look like Courtney Love, help!" (Ya'all know who Courtney is, a rock star person who tried to make the smeared lipstick look, in style.(Did not work). I am but one person, here , I counted the wrong amount of drops under the tongue, told Chris he wasn't 12 anymore and could not find the make-up remover fast enough! And Zoey was in the living room with a black trash bag shoving all her gifts in like a mad woman because she was afraid she'd forget something, if she waited one more minute for some adult supervision. And my 85 year old mother, sat in a comfy chair watching her crazy family run around like chickens with their heads cut off. Ahhh, the Holidays, aren't they wonderful!

Sandy you bring such joy to this site with you hilarious stories....The visualization of the whole thing had me LOL
LOVE IT!!!!In our house we usually don't even get up on Christmas till around 9:30 or so like old folks do, however this year we have had my nephew staying with us till he moves to his new home so he picked up my great-niece up after work at 6:00(as in AM) in her PJs to opened gifts at our home.I don't even think when my son was little did we ever get up that early....So I put on a hat and grabbed my robe and made coffee first (a must to even function)and opened gifts. I must admit it really was a lot of fun. My great-niece is seven and is just as cute as a button. Both her mom and dad are L.A. County Sheriff so I tried to give her as much a normal life as possible with both parents in crazy shifts and going thru a divorce....

Lorene and Maurene my heart goes out to both of you. This is a very difficult time for your families with your parents illnesses. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers....My mother just had a mastectomy in October and came thru with flying colors. She will be 79 this coming year and the doctors are amazed at her speedy recovery. That is do to many prayers from family and friends....

Time to check out here now that I have warmed up a little. I found and electric throw YEAH!!! and I made hot tea to warm my hands.....LOL

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Hi Carol,
Thank you for the much needed prayers for all of our parents.

You crack me up with your stories of being so cold, I'm going out on a limb here but I can hook you up with some little warmers that you can put in your socks and your gloves. We will be taking them to Yellowstone with us, but I will be more than happy to share some with you. We take them for the boys, because they don't have handle warmers when they ride with us. Come on I mean you can't count holding onto Grandma's sides as holding onto the "real handle bars" LOL. (The snowmobiles have heated handles) I'm happy to hear that you got a heated throw, but that uses electricity too? But I promise I won't say a word to you know who.....lol

Love ya
Lynne

Sorry to hear your parents have been ill. My prayers are with you for their speedy recovery. I understand how diificult it is when they are ill and need constant care, but God will be with you and help you thru the difficult times. My Mom had heart failure and my Dad cancer. Just cherish every minute you have with your parents. Please keep us posted on how they are doing.

Lynne,
Very nice pictures of your family - the snow is beautiful, but I have to agree with the rest - way too cold for me too. Looks like you all have a wonderful time there in Idaho.
You mentioned Yellowstone - that is such a neat place. We were there in the summer of 2007 while on our way (took the long route around) to see our son and his family who are stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. Anyway - the nite we arrived in Yellowstone we were staying at the North Gate (Montana side) but entered thru the West Gate thinking it wasn't very far to the other side (boy were we wrong). Anyway we were probably in the park about 20 minutes when an Elk was getting ready to jump out in front of us, then not even 5 minutes later I seen this dark shadow in the road and started screaming - that made for a little excitement along with the drizzling rain, Stu slams on the brakes and we were just inches away from the rear-end of a buffalo, and me being the camera junkie had to start taking photos, while Stu was still trying to catch his breath. That thing was as high as the hood of our Expedition. He gave us a very dirty look too as we drove around him, and again about 5 minutes away was another one this time we were prepared. They say if you honk at them they will charge your vehicle. So that is part of our experience of Yellowstone - but it is a beautiful place to see - we are planning another trip back there. Hope you enjoy your trip there.
Sorry to hear that our Mom is not well also.
Peggy

Billie Hundley (Linnane-Miller)

Peggy, I had to chuckle when I read your Yellowstone experience. I can just picture the two of you driving and trying to figure out what's ahead in the roadway. Your story reminded me of a time in the early 70's when my ex-husband and I were traveling through a small town in Nevada or Wyoming. It was pitch dark outside, no street lights or any sign of life within miles, I was tired and decided to climb in the backseat to sleep while my husband drove. Somewhere along the way my ex screamed out "Billie wake-up! A tumbleweed the size of our car just rolled in front of me" (it scared the heck out of him). I climbed back to the front seat and all through the night as we drove on an isolated two lane road we played dodge ball with gigantic tumbleweeds! It was surreal to say the least.

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas with loved ones. It was busy here with all our children and grandchildren home for Christmas Eve festivities --what fun we had. I'll post a few pictures when I get some time.

12/27/08 07:27 PM #1356

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Peggy and Billie both of your stories cracked me up, thanks for the laughs.

On our trip last year to West Yellowstone, we had gone about 4o miles outside of town and came across a big herd of Buffalo, my son we had to drive right by them. My daughter and law and I were on our sleds behind my son, and he went right by them. We both stopped and I looked back at her, and she looked at me and we both said "I'm NOT GOING THAT CLOSE TO THEM." So we turned and went thru the fresh powder where I then got stuck.
When I got off the sled, I was up to my waist in the snow. We never laughed so hard, but I didn't care just as long as those buffalo weren't hear me. I think I may be able to add that photo to my site someday, my son took a picture.

You girls will be so happy to learn that it's raining now in Idaho. I am so sad, we wanted more snow. The weather man says maybe tomorrow night it will turn back to snow.

Hi fellow classmates,

Lorene and Maureen, Our prayers for your parents and that all turns out well.

Lynne, Pam and I have had a wonderful time in Yellowstone, Jackson Hole and just a fantastic time had all around. Lots and lots of snow. 30-36" and counting in the town of Jackson. Snowing now as I write this. Hope you have lots of fun on the trip here. We are leaving for Utah in the morning, but sure have enjoyed ourselves. By the way thanks for the hug, it felt really good. Pam and I are thinking of joining the August Reunion at your area and will be bringing up our fifth wheel and staying somewhere nearby, where ever you may recommend we stay to be close, and with hook-ups so we can stay for several days. Looking forward to seeing you and meeting your family along with all who come to the reunion.

We (Pam & I) went to visit Dorothy (Smaller) and her husband Joel today and just had a good time with them. Sammy and Maggie were great too. Joel had a great day and he and I had some wonderful conversation. They have a gorgeous log cabin and the visit was very nice. Thank you Dorothy and Joel for putting up with us and opening your home to us.

Well we sure will miss this place and all it offers to us. but back to the work place, our company is champing at the bit to get me back on the snow plow.

Next visit to here is sometime in late winter / early spring.

Love and Happy New Years to all,
Ray

Billie & Lynne,
Those are both great stories. Those buffalo are really scary and big. I don't think I would get close to them unless It was like on our trip. At night when you are traveling on dark roads it is really hard to see those guys. Lynne, I too would have been laughing with you being stuck in that snow too. You just gotta post that picture -
So I have another story to tell you. In 1991 Stu was in Texas - he had been there for a couple of months on family issues, so he decides he is going to fly back to California and then things got better in Texas so we drive back down there to p/up his car and the rest of his personal things and then drive back to California. (I have a tough time in Texas the mosquitos bite me so bad it has caused me to be in the hospital with Edema), so we are driving back and I am in the mini van and Stu is behind me in his car and I almost went off the road when all of a sudden this turkey goes flying across the highway and me almost hitting it - it scared me so bad, I was afraid that another one was going to come out of nowhere again. Those flying turkeys are big too. - It seems that the times I have gone to Texas there has always been something that has come back as an experience, - and I just love my hubby for sharing those moments :) with the trantulas and mosquitos in the field where he got me to take a short cut.

Yes, Billie we had a nice Christmas and the grandkids spent most of it with us. Nick & Lexie would have been here tonight but we had dinner plans with Fred & Molly.
So nice to hear you had a wonderful time with the family - will call you this week.
Peggy

To all our Classmates,
Tonight we had dinner with Fred and Molly and got to talking about how we should all get together again at least once a year. You just never know what tomorrow may bring, so we have a proposal for you. I also have heard from many other classmates that would like to have another Vegas Party. This would either be in May or June. If you are interested let's get a list going and then we work on the details. How about it classmates????

It sounds as if everyone had a good Christmas. We had Christmas here with my kids, my mom, my aunt, and my cousin and his family. My son and I are usually in the kitchen trying to get everything ready when everyone starts arriving. Of course, when they get here they have to congregate in our kitchen which is big enough for about 3 people. I always get nervous when everyone is in the way while I am trying to get everything done at the same time (and of course there is something that always goes wrong). At Thanksgiving I discovered that a glass of Eggnog right before everyone arrives helps ease the pressure. There is some secret ingredient in Eggnog that calms the nerves (not sure if it is the nutmeg or the Captain Morgan Spiced Rum).

So for Christmas I made my special Eggnog drink. People started arriving, coming into the kitchen, getting in the way. No problem. I started singing Christmas carols loudly enough so everyone could enjoy my festive spirit. (This prompted someone to put the Elvis Christmas CD on at a slightly louder volume than my singing.) I was preparing a cauliflower dish and just as I was ready to put it into the microwave it hit me the sauce & cheese were supposed to go on the cauliflower after it was cooked not before as I had just prepared it. Normally this would have upset me, but I just scraped off the sauce & cheese (singing along with Elvis), ran the cauliflower under the tap & cooked it. I made a little bit more sauce and slapped the sauce & scraped-off cheese onto the cauliflower after it had cooked. It turned out great.

From now on Captain Morgan will be a special guest at all my family get-togethers.

Peggy, I'm interested, I think a Vegas party once a year with classmates is a great idea. Count me in! How soon can you have an exact date for May or June?

12/28/08 09:44 AM #1362

Peggy Steiner (Miller)

Hi Billie,
That's great. We would need to see how many are interested and go from there - So if we get enough responses by the end of January, I think we could do it.
The date would be either the middle of May or somewhere around the first 2 weeks of June,
We would make it a dinner but keep it simple too so the cost could be cut down some.
I'll add your name to the list and lets see how it goes. It sure would be wonderful to see everyone again.
Peggy.

Lynn I agree with Ray I think a reunion in Idaho this summer sounds like a plan. My sister and her husband who live in Washington have been wanting us up there for a visit, so this is a perfect time to head up north. I was up there last year, but Jim hasn't been up for several years. Just set a date and we all can work around that...

Hugs to all especially those in the freezing cold....

Summer Mini Reunion In Idaho, some of you have responded to me about coming up to Idaho in August 21 & 22 next year. I think it's a great idea and so far we have quite a few people interested. We can park three RV's at the lake house with electric but no water. We bring in drinking water from the store, and draw from the lake for the showers, etc. in the house. Wow, that sounds kinda "Idaho red neck" doesn't it? LOL

So, I guess I should get together with my dad and pick a date real soon and just go for it. Go ahead and add your name to the list if you are interested.

Girls planning the Las Vegas reunion, please don't feel that I am stepping on your toes. I'd like to come to the reunion in Las Vegas as well, and hope that you would like to come to Idaho as well.

Some of the names interested so far are as follows:

l. Molly Lowe & Fred Tortilini
2. Maurene BuSteed & Joseph
3. Laurene Busteed & Roland
4. Betty Haskins ?
5. Phyllis & Nick Aldana
6. Ray Olson & Pam
7. Dorothy & Joel ?
8. Carol Maddex & Jim
9. Gary & Lori Buice ? maybe
10. Susie Wilson I'm pretty sure
11. Stephanie Eyler DiMigao
12. Tom Fordham
13. Pat & Steve Denham ?

Hi fellow Classmates,

Well we are back in Utah and I am feeling wonderfully rested, relaxed and ready for work. Is that what they mean by the 3 r's?

Mike Lampman, I saw where there was a blizzard on the big island of Hawaii. That has got you wanting to go to Jackson Hole now right??

Lynne, Happy Birthday! I hope you have many more.

All of you story tellers out there, keep up the stories. I am loving reading them and laughing at the mental images I get when I read them.

I have a short story, Pam and I are on the road between Yellowstone and Jackson at a turn out parked and watching some buffalo coming towards the road. They are quite a ways off when we parked. Anyway we are sitting there and I am taking pictures with a zoom lens and they just keep getting closer and closer. I am gleefully taking better and closer pictures, and realize that I need to change lenses on the camera as they are getting too close to get good pictures with the zoom lense. I get out of the truck to get the camera bag in the back seat and I hear Pam telling me to hurry as they are getting awfully close, and I just keep on changing lenses, get all set to turn around and I can smell these beasts strongly now. The urgency in Pam's voice is getting more strong, "Ray get in the truck now or you are buffalo dinner" I close the back door, turn around and they are all standing around my side of the truck, maybe 20 of them. They are looking at me and sorta snuffling aroung on the ground about 20 feet away. I am taking pictures and standing there wondering if I can get to the front door and open it before they charge. And decided if worse came to worse I could jump in the back bed of the truck if I had to. Now they all start moving and I am thinking they are coming for me, however they split nicely and went around the front and rear of the truck, one of them had to rub his head on the truck and I was laughing at Pam just freaking out in the truck. Afterwards, I am thinking what a piece of cake. They were not concerned with me at all just looking for a fresh place to roam. But I tell you what. STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE! In reality, scared the hell out of me. (Don't tell anyone I admitted that)

Keep smiling you all.
Ray

Hi Ray and Happy New Year to one and all.... And yes, the top of Mauna Kea does have its own climate and does get a lot of snow this time of year. Snow ski on Mauna Kea in the morning, then drive down to the beach to surf in the afternoon. That's not a bad day.
