Summer Mini Reunion In Idaho, some of you have responded to me about coming up to Idaho in August 21 & 22 next year. I think it's a great idea and so far we have quite a few people interested. We can park three RV's at the lake house with electric but no water. We bring in drinking water from the store, and draw from the lake for the showers, etc. in the house. Wow, that sounds kinda "Idaho red neck" doesn't it? LOL

So, I guess I should get together with my dad and pick a date real soon and just go for it. Go ahead and add your name to the list if you are interested.

Girls planning the Las Vegas reunion, please don't feel that I am stepping on your toes. I'd like to come to the reunion in Las Vegas as well, and hope that you would like to come to Idaho as well.

Some of the names interested so far are as follows:

l. Molly Lowe & Fred Tortilini
2. Maurene BuSteed & Joseph
3. Laurene Busteed & Roland
4. Betty Haskins ?
5. Phyllis & Nick Aldana
6. Ray Olson & Pam
7. Dorothy & Joel ?
8. Carol Maddex & Jim
9. Gary & Lori Buice ? maybe
10. Susie Wilson I'm pretty sure
11. Stephanie Eyler DiMigao
12. Tom Fordham
13. Pat & Steve Denham ?

Hi fellow Classmates,

Well we are back in Utah and I am feeling wonderfully rested, relaxed and ready for work. Is that what they mean by the 3 r's?

Mike Lampman, I saw where there was a blizzard on the big island of Hawaii. That has got you wanting to go to Jackson Hole now right??

Lynne, Happy Birthday! I hope you have many more.

All of you story tellers out there, keep up the stories. I am loving reading them and laughing at the mental images I get when I read them.

I have a short story, Pam and I are on the road between Yellowstone and Jackson at a turn out parked and watching some buffalo coming towards the road. They are quite a ways off when we parked. Anyway we are sitting there and I am taking pictures with a zoom lens and they just keep getting closer and closer. I am gleefully taking better and closer pictures, and realize that I need to change lenses on the camera as they are getting too close to get good pictures with the zoom lense. I get out of the truck to get the camera bag in the back seat and I hear Pam telling me to hurry as they are getting awfully close, and I just keep on changing lenses, get all set to turn around and I can smell these beasts strongly now. The urgency in Pam's voice is getting more strong, "Ray get in the truck now or you are buffalo dinner" I close the back door, turn around and they are all standing around my side of the truck, maybe 20 of them. They are looking at me and sorta snuffling aroung on the ground about 20 feet away. I am taking pictures and standing there wondering if I can get to the front door and open it before they charge. And decided if worse came to worse I could jump in the back bed of the truck if I had to. Now they all start moving and I am thinking they are coming for me, however they split nicely and went around the front and rear of the truck, one of them had to rub his head on the truck and I was laughing at Pam just freaking out in the truck. Afterwards, I am thinking what a piece of cake. They were not concerned with me at all just looking for a fresh place to roam. But I tell you what. STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE! In reality, scared the hell out of me. (Don't tell anyone I admitted that)

Keep smiling you all.
Ray

Hi Ray and Happy New Year to one and all.... And yes, the top of Mauna Kea does have its own climate and does get a lot of snow this time of year. Snow ski on Mauna Kea in the morning, then drive down to the beach to surf in the afternoon. That's not a bad day.

Sandra Harris (Lint)

THIS IS YOUR FRIENDLY HIPPIE DIPPY WEATHER GIRL HERE IN THE PHOENIX AREA BRINGING YOU A NEWS UPDATE. I SEE BLUE SKIES, ORANGES ON MY ORANGE TREE, AND LETS SEE, OH YES, IT IS 62 DEGREES IN MY PATIO AT THIS TIME. LET US BREAK OUT THE BATHING SUITS!!

Ray, I love your story. What is it with all you people and the Buffalos? Guess I'll have to leave the state to see that kind of wildlife. All I'm seeing here is Mexican Doves, Gimble Quail, and an occasional Road Runner. Beep Beep!!

Hi fellow classmates,

Just finished up plowing snow here in wonderful beautiful downtown Utah. Got home and my driveway, sidewalk and back deck await me. The driveway and sidewalk to the house had been shoveled by one of my neighbors while we were gone in Wyoming, but the back deck measured 26 inches of the lovely white stuff. No snow blower up on the deck, so I get the snow shovel. I really have a hard time remembering I am not a spring chicken anymore until I picked up that snow shovel. Dang that was heavy work. I am thinking all the while of writing to Lynne to find out if she is getting any more snow as she gets it first then me. I get on the message forum and see her weather forcast. Have you ever felt that sick feeling in the stomach when your worst nightmare comes true? Guess what? I felt that.

Lynne you need to tell me about the sun and beautiful weather you are having so I know to smile big time! Either that or Mike Lampman, I am coming to visit for a few months. If I get lonely of snow we can go up on the mountain for an hour. That will cure me.

Keep smiling out there, By the way it got up to 36 today... a virtual heat wave. Now all you folks out there, think of Dorothy and Joel in the mountains in Wyoming, snow every day, colder than you know what, and she is smiling. Keep it up Dorothy, it looks good on you.

Phyllis, are you out there????? not a sound lately, hmmmm I will go brush my teeth and take a shower. Maybe that's the problem.

Sandra, Now that I know you have an orange tree, I have to ask, do you ship them out? :)

Hugs to you all,
Ray

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Ok Ray here you go hang onto your seat. We got another 8 inches of snow, and more to come all week long. The biggest snowfall in the history books for North Idaho. Sorry dude, but I guess you better get ready.
I had to snow blow my driveway twice today, and I need to go out back and shovel the deck off. Then I need to go out and haul in firewood, man I miss my husband being home. At least I'm not a whimp right Ray?

If and when you move to Idaho, you and I can help one another out. I can run a snowplow too.

Ok, classmates that don't like the snow just wait until you see it up here in August. It's so worth it to put up with a little snow.

I'm thinking the week end of Aug. 21-22. I will start looking into the RV parks and hotels for everyone.

A great RV spot would be Blackwell Island, we can pick you up by boat if you stay there.

So, keep adding those names classmates.

Love you,
Lynne

We just loved your story about the buffalos. Stu and I couldn't stop laughing. They are some big ones aren't they? Thanks for sharing :)

Phyllis & Carol,
Hi ladies. I sent you a request for our Vegas Party in either May or early June and noticed the only one that got posted was the Idaho trip. Did I make some kind of error in the posting? Please let me know. Thank you ladies.
Peggy

Marianna Brown (Schechter)

Lynne...
I have a couple of questions for you about the reunion in Idaho. What lake? Coeur d'Alene or Hayden? How far is it to lodging for those of us who do not camp or have motor homes? Closest airport...Spokane...where we could rent a car.
Just a little curious...will let you know whether or not to add Stan's and my name as the time gets closer.

Lynne,
Hi, your Idaho get together sounds like fun. Not sure if we will be able to take vacation time in August - you know that seniority thing. But will try. Maybe we can fly up with Marianna and Stan or maybe we could all drive up together. Will let you know as the time gets closer. Thanks for the invite.

Billie Hundley (Linnane-Miller)

Lynne, for those of us who don't RV or camp, where would we stay for the mini-reunion? Sounds like fun, just need some more details. Thanks.

Phyllis Willhite

Hello everyone,
I have not been on the forum in quite a while. There has just been way too much going on. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.

I love all this talk about more mini reunions. I had already planned on going up to Idaho for a mini get together. I haven't been much of a camper for many years and we do not own a motor home, So I will be one of the ones in a hotel. I'm not sure I can make to one in Las Vegas in May or June. I have a family reunion in Arkansas in mid July. I just can't take the whole summer off the way I'd like too. Retirement is too far off for me. Working is sure getting in the way of socializing.

Phyllis,
Sorry you can't make the Vegas party. But we understand it's tough to try and make all the engagements, been there ourselves. But thank you for thinking of us. We will miss you.
Peggy

Carol Maddex (Switzer)

Not sure about making Las Vegas mini reunion. It was all I could do to get Jim to come to the last one. Like Phyllis I have two family weddings April & May, a Smith Family reunion in July and another wedding in September all in different directions...I am sure Vegas will be a lot of fun...

Larry Mathews, nice to see you updated your Classmates Profile. Sorry to hear things were difficult for you in high school, but when you think about it, school was a difficult place for many classmates. Maturity has given us a greater appreciation for what is important in life. We've all discovered life is a precious journey with no guarantees, we've experienced the highest of highs, the lowest of lows, and through it all we've managed to persevere.

Hopefully you can join your classmates May/June 2009 (exact date & details coming soon) in Las Vegas for a Class of 68' Party. Also, Lynne Scales is hosting a classmate get-together in Idaho the month of August (details on Home Page).

I'm glad you joined the forum, hope to see you in Las Vegas this summer.

Carol,
Sorry to hear you might not make the Vegas Party 2009. We understand when there are making prior committments.
You will be missed, but I am sure you will have a wonderful time on your travels.

Patricia Hamilton (Denham)

Okay Ray, now that you're home and the driveway is shoveled (you did get it all done didn't you?) and you're unpacked and have had a nice long shower we want to see those close up pictures of the buffalo. Hopefully you got a close up of Pam's worried face as well. LOL I've heard lots of stories about the close up and personal encounters with the critters in Yellowstone. Some day I hope to get to see them for myself.

Stay warm.

Pat

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Hey Tom,
I forgot about how close the summer reunion would be for you, you are more than welcome to help me with any of this that you want too. If you have any suggestions at all about places our classmates could stay, etc. please let us know of the forum.
Are you familar with camp Easton's boy scout camp on Lake Cda? My folks place is just across the bay and around the point.

Tonight wbile watching tv there was a Triple Play advertisement on, and I thought hey that would be a good hotel. The reason being is I know the one of the big wigs there and maybe I could get a good price for rooms.
I doubt anyone would be interested in the theme park portion or the water park but the hotel is pretty nice.

Stay in touch and let me know if you have any suggestions.

Lynne

Molly Lowe (Davis)

Larry Mathews:

Gosh, it really saddens and embarrasses me to know that I hurt your feelings while we were at PHS. While I truly don't remember shunning you, please accept my apologies albeit 40 years late.

I am in touch with Jackie Petzold on occasion and she has mentioned speaking with the Glasser twins (I believe they were her next-door neighbors in Lakewood). Perhaps I could find out where and what they are doing and pass the information along to you.

Time, life experiences, age are great equalizers. I'd like to think we are all in this together and have more common ground and compassion for the PHS gang now than we did when we were kids.

Anyway, please believe me when I say I am very sorry for any part I played in slighting you.

Molly

12/30/08 09:50 PM #1391

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

WOW Larry Mathews,
I had no idea that we treated you that way. Although you didn't mention my name directly I can't help but feel like we should all feel ashamed of how we treated you.

So, like Molly said even though it's taken 40 years I'd also like to appoligize if I did anything to make you feel uncomfortable back at PHS.

I'm glad that you joined our forum and now we will have the opportunity to make it up to you. I am sure you will enjoy getting to know many of us, most of us have grown up since 1968 honest.

Stay in touch.
Lynne

Pat Kuester (Bowen)

I read Larry Mathews profile and sent him a personal message. But then I thought I would share what I wrote to him. I thought it would be therapeutic, and believe me when I say I can really use therapy.

"Thanks for sharing your honest feelings about your high school days. You aren't the only classmate who has indicated on this forum their feelings of not fitting in in high school. I loved school and had friends but they weren't the "popular ones". I felt snubbed at times and felt inadequate in fitting in with certain cliques. A lot of it was my own insecurities and shyness, but there was also snobbery. We were kids; we were thoughtless and did hurtful things.
Thank goodness you realized your true potential. I got over most of my shyness, but deep down I am still a little insecure and shy. I went to the 40th reunion and have to honestly say that the last 40 years has been a great equalizer. Everyone was really glad to see each other even those who couldn't remember each other.
Hopefully you'll stay in touch with your fellow classmates and maybe attend some of the events that will be planned in the future."
