Hello one and all, yes things are getting pretty tight here in California. My son works for Fed Ex Freight as a driver, they cut him to 32 hours and no benefits. Fed Ex closed their main headquaters in CA and moved everyone around or they got "pink slips". My son is optimisted that he will be back on full time as he was promised this week.
As far as the school districts, I work for the Corona Norco Teachers Union in Norco. Times are bleek in education. I can't speak for Los Angeles, but our school district works side by side with the local teachers association. It's truly an amazing thing that they do. Last year for the first time since I have been working for the Association, over 280 teachers received RIF notices, through dedication, hard work and being able to come up with innovative ways to say jobs both classified and certificated. It was truly a team work effort, I recall putting in countless hours at the office with other teachers, administrators and classified. We worked our you know what's off. Through it all, jobs were saved. I've worked for the Teachers Association for 25 years and never seen anything like this before. The case in our building was - we lost our tennet upstairs, "Wells Fargo Home Mortgage". Needless to say, there was not enough money to run the programs and keep up with the cost of the building. The Board had to make a very difficult decision to eleminate a position.
It's like a domino effect once everyone stops buying for fear of the future - people lose jobs.
Everyone hold on for the roller coaster, as we will be traveling up and down and all around.
