I just want to say it's a good thing Mr. Kleinberg was not my teacher. My mother would have taken him on in a heartbeat. I was so shy, I probably wouldn't have gotten into trouble; but boy, if I had, and he pulled some of that stuff on me, poor guy.

We had a teacher in 3rd grade, Mr. Scarff, who if you forgot to bring your speller to school would make you hold all of your books all day long for punishment. Well I forgot my spelling book. I held my books until lunch, went home & told my mom. She went back to school with me and told Mr. Scarff that we were in school to learn and holding our books all day did not accomplish this. I didn't have to hold my books for the rest of the day. But I must admit I never forgot my speller again. Although this punishment didn't work on everyone, Dennis Gose ended up having to go to the doctors with muscle spasms in his arms from having to hold all of his books everyday. Needless to say after that it was the end of that punishment.

I am most proud of my children. My son is brilliant and a very good person. My daughter is also very intelligent and self-reliant. The few bad qualities they do have they get from their father, but all of their good qualities they get from me.

No question about it....my kids! My oldest son has his Masters from the U of Wisconsin. He has married a beautiful girl that is finishing her medical residency this year. My daughter...with 5 children of her own...she is a perfect 'Mom'. She is the queen of patience, loving, giving and an asset to her husband. My youngest son...the rebellious musician. He is kind to others...loves his nieces and nephews...lets them crawl all over him. He is talented and honest. I had a teacher tell me once that Matthew was to honest. How can a person be to honest?
I hope that the success of my kids had something to do with me. I always tried to instill in them to be honest, caring and kind to others, to try and be the best in whatever they were doing.

Yes Mr Kleinberg would have been labeled abusive and would have been arrested, loss of his teaching credentials. I really was afraid of this teacher. I did hear (maybe in the late 60's early 70's) that he had died of a brain aneurysm. I have a picture of him somewhere...I will get it scanned and post it.

Lorene...my mom also was on the PTA at Lincoln. I know that for at least one of the years that I was there she was the secretary. You will have to ask your mom if she remembers Mary Brown.

Hello Fellow Classmates!

Someone asked us... "what are you most proud of" I am most proud to be an honorable man with integrity.

Yes of course I am proud of my kids, my legacy, my accomplishments, but those are all just accomplishments... you see the kids are what they have made themselves and that is their pride to own. My legacy is all the parks, public places that I have created in my work for people to enjoy... an accomplishment, do you see?

But to be known as a man that could be trusted with his word is what is most important to me... I have love, I have a good life, I have wonderful kids and grandkids, but isn't that good karma for the way I have conducted my life? I have always believed that what I sow, I shall reap... well guess what guys and gals, it is coming to me in spades and I have a wonderful life.
Now I have so many of you in my life and my thoughts once again and that is such a good thing.

Geez, talk about getting emotional here...

I still value your friendship though so all of you keep it coming... If I forget your names in the reunion, just be kind as memory sucks at times... but know it is not because I do not remember you... but rather there are so many names I can not remember who to attach them to.

Love and hugs to you all... yes even Mike in Hawaii...;-)

OK, like every other mother on this forum probably! I am most proud of my boys and the careers they chose in life to become a part of their communities and help others. That is also what I am most proud about in myself, becoming a helper of others by joining the fire service, I learned to be compassionate of others and their feelings and what they are going thru at the moment. I loved to be able to help when people were at some of the worst cross roads in their lives.

My roll has now changed, and I have been given the opportunity to help care for my Mother who cared for me all of those years.I guess that could be what the meaning of "THE CIRCLE OF LIFE" could mean???

I'm happy to be back in touch with all of you, and the fact that we are able to keep our high school years going on in a sense by using this forum, and by our little mini reunions, etc.

Everyone, have a great time in Las Vegas I'm going to miss you. See you at the next one, God willing.

Love,
Lynne

Ray..You had my eyes tearing up. For myself I'd have to say the four years on the Hollydale PTA Board was an accomplishment for me and we did really good things for that school. We raised a great amount of money that went for many things that the school needed at the time. Of course my kids who I sometime refer to as my science projects. They are kind and respectful of others even though they aren't overly successful in life. Beth has learned at an early age that she has to depend on herself and is achieving that. She is a good mother and Zoey's behavior proves that. Chris is kind and caring and has patience, especially with that lady next door who stills wants to drive!! LOL But the Hollydale days were fun for me, we worked hard and did it because we wanted to.

Lynne, the teacher you are speaking of was no one other than "Mr Godlin". I had him and he scared the crap out of me. You see I went to Lincoln K-3 and Mokler 4-6. I dreaded everyday that I was in Mr. Godlin's class. At that time all he talked about was WAR and how America was going to be bombed etc., etc. All he did was YELL and HOLLER all the time.

Marianne, I remember Mrs. Howse and our nap time. I was going through some paperwork the other night and saw my graduation from Kindergarten to first grade. WOW.

In going through the paperwork I saw the promotional brochure for our graduation from sixth grade for all schools at Paramount High with everyone's name from all Elementary schools in Paramount/Lakewood/Hollydale etc. It was kinda neat. Then I proceeded to my Alondra Jr. High school year books and looked through what everyone wrote in the book.

I will get to the Lincoln pictures soon and post them as well as the Mokler pictures too.

Thanks everyone for taking us down memory lane!

Take care to all,

Lorene

Oh yes Phyllis I do remember Mr. Kleinberg. !!! How can anyone forget him that had him.

I have to say like everyone else that my boys are one of my greatest acomplishments. They are such good boys and Christopher is such a great father. The real acomplishment was when I passed the tests to become a Instructional Assistant at the high school. I just never thought that I could pass those darn tests at my age 48 at the time. I always had such a hard time in school. I graduated with D's and that was with Patsy and cessys' help ( yes I cheated ).So to be able to have passed those tests (without cheating) and to have my job that I absolutly love and just to be able to help the kids is one of the greatest feelings.

Take care All and Happy Cinco De Mayo !!!

Very cool answer Ray.....when you can wake up every morning and go to bed at night and be able to look yourself in the mirror knowing these things, you've got a leg up on a lot of people. High marks for saying things that we all need to hear and hopefully strive for in our own lives. I trust there will be name tags at this reunion as well....just to help put the name to the slightly older face in the yearbook. a hui ho....

Lynne Scales (Thurman)

Oh my gosh, Lorene that is exactly who he was. I just found a picture of him too. He was so darn mean, he scared the heck out of me. I'm sure I never talked that much in class to have a teach hurl a big rock at me across the room..........tee hee. Well, really he shouldn't have throw a rock at us.

Marianna, my Mom was PTA president for a number of years at one of my school, I have no idea where as my memory fails me at this moment. My Mom was a Girl Scout leader too. She rocked!!!!
Marianna, didn't Robin say you and she both were Orphans? I never did understand what she was talking about. She had a mom, I remember her mom I hung out at Robin's as much as she hung out at my house and I remember her mom. I still don't understand what she was talking about, and now you mentioned your Mom being with the PTA and stuff....just wondering.

ANYWAY................everyone have a great evening.

Lynne...what Robin meant was that both of our parents are deceased. I don't know when Robin lost her parents but I lost both of mine in their 69th year.

I don't remember if he did or not. I can't think who it might have been, maybe Sarah. She was pretty out there back then, very outspoken What do you think Gloria? I know Gloria was always really quiet. I remember Gloria always with a smile on her face. Just the same as today.
