Peggy Steiner (Miller)

Robin,
You are very welcome. Seeing Bette Midler must have been wonderful. I have heard she puts on a terrific show. Hopefully we will be able to do this again next year - we had some very positive responses.
You take care girl and I'll talk to you soon.
Peggy

Marsha Miller (Jaehnig)

Peggy, Marianne and Billie, thank you again for all your work and effort, it was well worth it...we had a great time.
It was so nice to re-connect with some of my Captain Raymond Collins buddies, I can't believe we go back over 50 years. I also enjoyed reminiscing with some of the "kids" from the old block. It was fun to find out what each one of us remembered (and didn't or tried to forget) we all agreed it was the time of innocence.
I enjoyed the time spent with Gloria Dena, we both agreed it was too bad we didn't get to know each other better in High School because we could have had a great time. Thank you Sarah Alcaraz for the "Stroll" lessons I'm not sure I can do it again, I think I need you as my partner to copy from.
Pat and Linda I look forward to your visit, and yes I will set one up.....Girls weekend anyone in San Luis Obispo??
Genevieve see you on the 4th!!
My best to everyone and thanks for the memories!!

Marsha

Marsha,
You're welcome and thank you for attending. It sure was nice to catch up with everyone. I think we really had the best class ever. The best part too is that we enjoy seeing each other and staying in touch. This forum has been great at keeping classmates in touch also. Hopefully we will try to get in a trip up your way later this year and if you and Dennis are free we can meet up. My cousin who lives in Carmel says it's time for us to make another trip up their way.
Take care
Peggy

It's sure good to read everyone's commentsand posted photos. It sounds and looks like a good time was had by all. By the way, who was the mystery pirate? I also wanted to let you know that the invitations I have received to join someone's person website...unfortuately my company computer system will not let me open the link. And I have tried on numerous occasions. Thanks for the thought though. Welcome back everyone.

Sorry I'm late with my thanks and kudos to Peggy, Marianna & Billie. You did a great job, and I had a wonderful time.

I got home Sunday afternoon, just like Gloria, we left early and missed all the horrendous traffic. I unpacked and repacked to go to Lake Arrowhead on Monday through today. I got home about an hour ago. I work Thursday & Friday, then right after work a friend and I are going to Bass Lake. We have to leave early on Sunday to get to the Ahmanson by 3:00 to see Dame Edna. I am tired just thinking about it.

So Marsha, you see coming for the weekend to see you is no problem. I am just a social butterfly. Ergo you picking the date, it has to be booked ahead as my dance card fills up quickly.

Thanks Don for your pictures on Picasso. There is one of me talking to Mr. Rittinger (I stole it). He was one of my favorite teachers. I had a good story to tell him. Gary can vouch for my entertaining stories.

Pat
I enjoyed reading your post, especially when I read you were going to Bass Lake. That is where my family went every summer for vacation, boating and skiing and camping out. Those were the most wonderful days, we used to go to the falls and slide down the rocks at the falls, I wonder if they still allow that?
I remember a little store called McDougals too. Hummm wonder if it's still there

Hope you have a wonderful time.
Love and happy travels
Lynne

Thank you Pat, it was great seeing you again and good to hear you had a good time. Get togethers are always fun.
It does sound like you do have a full card going. Have a wonderful time. We are planning a trip later this summer to take out the Quads, still waiting for my son to let us know when he will be here and then coordinate with some co-workers who are planning to go also. So far it looks like late July or August.
Have fun on your journey
Peggy

I just received this email. I must share it with all of you. Very touching story - embrace life.

First make sure that you have a tissue near you.

Two Choices:

What would you do?.....you make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves children with learning disabilities, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question:

'When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does, is done with perfection.

Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do.

Where is the natural order of things in my son?'

The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued.

'I believe that when a child like Shay, who was mentally and physically disabled comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.'

Then he told the following story:

Shay and I had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, 'Do you think they'll let me play?'

I checked this story out on truthorfiction.com and it is true. Take the time to read it. Ike

I knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but as a father I also understood that if my son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

I approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, 'We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning.'

Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt as I watched with a small tear in my eye and warmth in my heart. The boys saw my joy at my son being accepted.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three.

In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as I waved to him from the stands.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again.

Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.

At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game?

Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat.

Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact.

The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed.

The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay...

As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.

The game would now be over.

The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman.

Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all team mates.

Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, 'Shay, run to first! Run to first!'

Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

Everyone yelled, 'Run to second, run to second!' Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base.

By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball. the smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team.

He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head.

Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.

All were screaming, 'Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay'

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, 'Run to third! Shay, run to third!'

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, 'Shay, run home! Run home!'

Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team.

'That day', said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, 'the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world.'

Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making me so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

Lorene, I drove by Fender on Main St. today. I thought of you when I drove by. If I am in the Corona area I try to visit at least one of my two good friends who live in Corona. I don't get out in that neck of the woods too often.

Hi Pat

Hope you are able to make it to the Fender Museum on June 20th for the Carnival/Music Event with fireworks, food, games entertainment for the whole family. This event starts at 4:00 p.m. and ends at 10:00 p.m. Have your friends meet you there. I am on the Executive Board of Directors at the Fender Museum. I hold the position of Secretary. The whole month of October has some amazing things coming to the museum, it is going to be a rock n roll month. So big that some of the entertainment will be held at the Ontario Convention Center. We had a representative from the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. come to one our Board meetings recently. The Kennedy Center is supporting the Fender Museum on a daily basis. Check out the Fender Museum website for concerts/entertainment monthly. www.Fendercenter.com

I work for the Corona Norco Teachers Association in Norco, just off Hamner/Hidden Valley behind the Target/Albertsons shopping center. I went to Stater Brothers over the weekend and ran into Debbie Hansen. It was nice chatting with her for a bit. Come on by sometime ok.

I am going to see the Quakes on the 20th. But I'll try to make it in October. I love The Rock and The Roll. The more it rocks and rolls the better.

Mike Lampman...I hope you will make the next get-together, it was a special weekend in Vegas with all the Pete's and Polly's and their "honey's" that joined the party. It was a great "getaway" weekend at the Gold Nugget!!
Pat...I'm a Bass Lake girl too. We lived in Fresno for 5 years before coming back to Southern California. Seqouia and Yosemite were weekend picnics if not camping it was so close. From West Covina we moved to Fresno and then to Lakewood which is why I didn't meet anyone until I got to Paramount and then Sally Clark who was a senior and lived in our apartment building also, took me under her wing so I hung out with the seniors my first year and didn't get to know anyone in my class until 11th grade when I met Karen Sawko oh and Sue Kibbey lived in my apt building too.
Phyliss...I received your request to add to your address book. Does that have to do with the next "official" class reunion or your personal address book?
Good night everyone!! Thank God it's Friday, in a half an hour!!

You need to post who you are because your name doesn't show on your message. At least not on my end. Maybe Phyllis needs to do something so you're identified. I'm talking to the person who posted a response right after mine.

Phyllis Willhite

The person's name is not posted, so I don't know who it is either. The thing you got was so that we do not lose touch with each other if you move or change your e mail address. It is not part of this site, but it does have to do with the next reunion with will be our 45th. We want to make sure we are able to contact as many classmates as possible to amke them aware of any plans that are being made.

The person who is posting without a name is Robin Scott. She removed herself from the forum a few months ago, so that is why her name does not show....FYI

At the risk of stirring up another hornets nest, should non-members be able to post? Why not rejoin if you're going to particpate.

This is not a personal comment about or towards anyone, so, please, noone take offense, as none is intended.

Just applying my nit picky logic to the whole situation.

On a lighter note... did anyone watch the Laker game last night? Wow!! My heart can't take these close ones. GO LAKERS!! Get your positive thoughts going for Sunday's game.

Even though we've lived in Arizona for 30 years, my husband remains loyal to the California teams he grew up with - Lakers, Rams and Dodgers.

Just a quick message to all who attended the Vegas event. If you have pictures that you want loaded to our picassa site please send them to either Billie or myself so we can get them loaded. So far we have received some great pics can't wait to share them with you. We are working as fast as we can to get our site opened up and will email you once all pics are in. Hope you will enjoy them.

Yes we watched the game...as much as my husband would let the remote stand still long enough...Our dog came home from the groomers yesterday with a Lakers Scarf around her neck so we call her the "Laker Girl"

Don to your comment...I agree with you. If you remove yourself from the website why do you still have viewing and posting privileges....hummmm..... guess we can all remove our selves and start posting and then no one would know what the heck was being said by who. Now that may start something interesting....Also by removing yourself you can say what you want and no one can reply directly to you...Humm

Sleep over at the beach rang a bell. While working at taco bell there was a couple times we'd close, then head to the beach. Sleep there, shower there, go back to work the next afternoon.
