John Goetz

I am Sandi Goetz ,John's wife of 50 yrs now . He is retired from banking now and had an unfortunate health problem to occur on Jan. 7, 2018 in the wee hours and fortunately had been admitted to Wake Medical Center here in Raleigh, N.C. We have a wonderful heart center in the hospital complex here. He went to C- ICU in very light breathing distress and wound up with a cardiac code at 2AM in the morning and someone I knew was on for Cardiology call and put in a temp Pacemaker for him and later that day a permanent one. He finally was moved after 17 days to the floor for a week and then to Rehab and then after I had my Total Knee done two days later I spent two weeks in Rehab and when our housekeeper /caregiver, as she has become came to pick me up after my rehab we headed straight for John !! He was a couple of miles away !! I did not like what I found at Mayview even though he had the suite that was huge !! A week later he was moved to a facility in Fayetteville where his Dad had been stationed and retired from Fort Bragg. Tom his brother is an architect there and married to a fine lady whose family are old Fayetteville and he has been great every since that occurred except that he has suffered some memory loss and it is gradually coming back a bit !! This facility is supervised by feds, state, and a private health care business !!! It is well run and as Mickey Coe will know how I am, it is very clean !!!! I am an orthopaedic nurse and have been since 1972 !! Went to work for a young guy who was a hometown boy in the town on the coast where we lived !! Did not know I would come to love it so much as to stay in the field all that long. I hate dealing with money, stocks,etc. and John cannot stand the sight of blood hence , we have been married all these 50 yrs. happily !! This past year and almost 5 months has been a challenge !! I know I have seen John smile many times when he mentioned Pete and many of the people who made up your wonderful class !!!! He had gained a good deal of weight and now he is back at almost 200 lbs and for a person who was behind a desk all those years and loved to eat he is a most fortunate man !!!! If he were to see you, I am sure he would have a big smile on his face and I wish that we could have gone to some of your reunions !! Our daughter is married to federal judge and lives in Atlanta and Palm Beach !! They go back and forth !!! Unfortunately she was unable to have children , but like us she loves everyone else's children and they love her !!! Wish she were closer here, but they have a really fine life there !! Maybe just maybe , we might get to see some of you folks !! John is 76 now, hard to believe,but I am still standing along with good old Elton John !!!! We have been very happy here all these years and when John retired we decided to stay !! I am from New Bern, N.C. over on the coast and we had a place at Emerald Isle for several years and sold that when we moved her and bought a place at Wrightsville Beach !!!! Sold that a few years ago as we did not go as often as we had been and it was a prime time to sell so we did that !!! I am glad as badly as I hate dealing with money , am glad John handled all of that !! Not knowing you, hope this has not been too boring , but hard to tell in a very few sentences .
