I received the following information on Bud from his wife.
ALTON "BUD" SHIPSTEAD, 64, of Traverse City, died Aug. 5, 2010, at his home. A family gathering in his honor was celebrated in place of a formal funeral service.
Memorials may be directed to Father Fred Foundation, Hospice of Michigan or the Karmanos Cancer Center, Farmington Hills. Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City handled the arrangements.
Bud was my best friend during our Junior year at PAHS (63-64) before his family returned to Michigan in the summer of 1964. We remained friends throughout adulthood and I miss you Bud.
Bud was such a nice guy with a way of asking a question that showed he was looking for insight not information. He happened to be in the audience of a theatre where I worked in the summers in Michigan in1970 and we had a drink. Last time seen was Paris 2000. Next time on a cloud
Way too young and I'm sad to learn this. I knew Bud as Shirley Allen's boyfriend and I still visualize those TALL people arm in arm going down the halls, she wearing his letter jacket. Shirley was my friend from Miss Fitzpatrick's Basic Math class and so Bud spoke to me now and then when he came to escort her after class.(I was ridiculously shy and only a freshman!) Always was the gentle St. Bernard. Very good man.
