I'm saddened to share this information on classmate Bill Roberts.  Please keep Bill in your prayers and if you can maybe text him or send a card.  Bill was a regular at our monthly luncheons until Covid hit.  Years ago he and I worked together and this past year have visited at physical therapy.  So hard to lose long time friends.

Following message from Bill's wife Mary.  "I don't know how many of the group know Bill has been battling lung cancer since May.  We did well for a while and were in containment with immunotherapy.  As of late October, secondary lung cancer became aggressive in the liver.  No treatments have been effective.  We are currently in hospice with a 3 to 9 week expectancy.  He tires easily, giving it his best but becoming weaker each day.

I know many people care so much for him.  He is and has been connected with so many.  Our time is short and although visitors would be welcome I think a card, message or email would be more appreciated.  Please let the group know.  He enjoyed meeting and visiting with all of you.  Thank you for your friendship.  Bill and Mary"

OBITUARY FOR BILL ROBERTS

                                          William P. Roberts

                        April 21, 1943   -   February 14, 2023 (age 79)

William P. "Bill" Roberts, 79, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed from cancer on February 14, 2023, surrounded by family, after spending one last Valentine's Day with his sweetheart of nearly 50 years.

Bill was born to William Lem and Ellen Irene Cranor Roberts on April 21, 1943, in Pocatello, Idaho.  He was the 2nd of 4 children and the apple of his parents eye which would be a theme throughout his life.  He attended Pocatello High School and joined the Navy when he was 17.  He proudly served as an Airedale on the flight deck of the USS Ticonderoga.  After serving 3 years, 7 months, 2 days, 9 hours and 36 minutes (which he would happily tell anyone who asked) he left the Navy with the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer.

After the Navy, Bill returned home to Pocatello.  He attended Idaho State University earning a Bachelor of Business Administration/Marketing degree and later a Masters degree in Occupational Training Management.  He was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity where he received the silver distinguished service award and was a lifetime member of Phi Kappa Phi, National Honor Society.  In 2002 Bill was honored with the Professional Achievement Award from Idaho State University.

During his days at Idaho State, Bill worked for Westergard-Mayflower Moving and Storage.  Following his graduation, he made the move to AMI (ON) where he worked for over 20 years.  In 1996, Bill took a position with Hynix (Hyundal Semiconductor America) in Eugene, Oregon, where he retired in 2008 as the Director of Manufacturing and Equipment.  More than a little homesick, Bill and Mary returned to Pocatello where he ran WPR Consulting and worked as a substitute teacher for several years.

In 1964 Bill married Veda Kruse and they were blessed with a son, Troy; they later divorced.  In 1976, he married the love of his life, Mary Glenn Roberts, and became a devoted husband and a father to her three children, (Shawn Michael, and Keri Glenn).  After a few short years, a daughter, Jamie was born.  Over the next two decades, Bill found himself very engaged in any activity his family was involved in.  He was a wonderful father who loved his children and oh how they love him!

When he could find a minute, Bill was very involved in the local community.  Over the years he volunteered his time serving Bannock Boys Baseball, Campfire, Camp Taylor, The Cedars Homeowners Association, Supervisory Committee for Potelco Federal Credit Union, and the Citizens Advisory Board for the INL.  Additionally he was roped into thousands of hours at Camp Taylor, Job's Daughters, Sweet Adelines, scouting and coaching many sports teams.

Those who knew Bill could affirm that he always had a twinkle in his eye and a personality that drew people to him.  He loved people and made friends easily.  Everywhere he went there were people who knew and loved "Mr. Bill".  He lived a life filled with laughter and fun adventures.  Bill especially loved camping, racquetball, skiing, and trips to the Oregon Coast with his family.

Bill is survived by his wife Mary Roberts, his children, Shawn Glenn (Jenny), Troy Roberts (Becky), Mike Glenn (Natalie), Keri Gunter (Lynn), and Jamie Cooper (Aaron); his sister Karlene Hunt (Bob), 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren (with more on the way).  His children and grandchildren remember him as charming, generous, and one who was always there when he was needed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lem and Ellen Irene, brother, Carson Andrew Roberts, sister and brother-in-law, Isabel Julene "Judy" Jacobson (Jake) and niece Lori Knuth.

Memorial services will be held at the Cedar Hills Ward, 5425 Bannock Highway, Pocatello, ID 83204 at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

The family will receive visitors at the Cedar Hills Ward on Friday evening March 3rd from 6-8 pm and at 11am Saturday morning before the funeral.

A special thank you to the medical staff at Portneuf Cancer Center and to the loving nurses from Heritage Home Health and Hospice who took such tender care of him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation in Bill's name to Camp Taylor at P.O. Box 1432 or www.camptaylor.org.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.cornelisonfh.com. 208-232-0542.

Thanks to Del Taylor for notifying me of the passing of Richard Godfrey.

Dick Godfrey

Richard "Dick" Dean Godfrey of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, passed away from complications of cancer in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, June 12, 2023.  He would have turned 80 next month.

Dick was born on July 20, 1943 and was raised in Pocatello, Idaho.  He was taught many life lessons - including the value of hard work - by his parents, Willis and Ruth Snyder Godfrey.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  He enjoyed working hard and had many hobbies such as collecting cars, boating, hunting, and fishing.  In his later years Dick liked cooking for others and was an avid 'garage saler.'  He will be remembered for his many sayings - lovingly referred to as "Dickisms" by his great group of friends in Lake Havasu - and his generosity, adventurousness, work ethic and sense of humor,

Dick graduated from Pocatello High School in 1961 and married his high-school sweetheart, Leslie Ann Welch, in 1963.  They lived in Denver where Dick attended electronics school and worked as a grocery clerk.  He joined the National Guard and the couple moved to California.  He finished his years in the service and became a firefighter for the Santa Clara County Fire District.  Dick began operating equiptment and dreamed of being his own boss.  He bought his first dump truck, a white and blue Mack, in the mid-70s.

In early 1979, Dick and Leslie bought a small farm in Blackfoot.  After moving, he continued to build his business by purchasing a backhoe manure-spreading operation, and several other pieces of equiptment.  He bid jobs in several states including Idaho, Montana, Washington, Wyoming and Hawaii.  He was especidally proud of the campgrounds and roads he built in the Gallatin National Forest.

Nearing retirement he bought a home in Lake Havasu and established friendships with an extraordinary group of people in Havasu Heights and Lake Havasu City.  They had lots of great times together and they were incredibly supportive and helpful of Dick during his years there and especially his last few days.  They have been invaluable to Suzanne and the grandchildren during this difficult time.  She cannot thank them enough.

Viewing will be at Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot on Monday, June 26, 2023 from 5 to 7 pm.

Funeral will be at Hawker Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 11 am.

Condolences may be left on the web page for Hawker Funeral Home.

Del Taylor

So sorry to learn of Richard's passing.  And knowing that he lived so close by..........I definitely would have gone to visit him.  We occasionally would run almost all the way home from the high school to our homes in Alameda. He was a much better runner than I was but he was very patient with me. I will always remember him kindly.  I see there was no mention of his sister Marilyn...I hope she is doing okay.  RIP Richard, you were a good man. Del Taylor, Wittmann, AZ

Just a little trivia:   Did you know that Cheri Honas is known as "THE PIE WISPHERER"  For years she made pies to sell at the Jackson Hole and Pocatello Farmer's Markets.  Her pies are delicious, but I'm sure we have lots of excellent cooks in this group.  Let's see who can give her some good competition by bringing your favorite dessert to share.  Too hot to bake? ..... Albertson's and 5th Ave. Bagelry have really good desserts (hint - hint).

WE ARE THE SURVIVORS .........SO LET'S CELEBRATE
