July 9, 2020-- Sharon (Shari) Malone just sent this letter... "

*************************************************

I heard from Emily Beebee (June 29, 2020)--- She is happily living in Ajijic, Jalisco , Mexico, with tons of other aging ex-pats.  She has escaped the virus so far. She is doing a lot of watercolor outside, to keep from going crazy.  Her new email is Pelicanablanca@gmail.com

*************************

I heard from Don Davis:

"We really love it here in our new home in Costa, but we're planning to attend the 2016 reunion. Have seen Jim Fallows a couple of times on CNN. Seeing him always reminds me of my youth in Redlands. Have been in touch with Emily Beebee a couple of times. She is still residing in Paso Robles and she is planning a visit us here in the near future. We have a beautiful, new, fully self contained guest house (casita) and would happily host any classmates contemplating a Costa Rican holiday.

We'll be in Western Europe for a five week "bucket list" vacation beginning Sept. 1 this year. Would love to get in touch with classmates residing there. I know Michelle Day lives in Stockholm, Margaret Kastner has moved back to the States, but someone still lives in Paris and we'll be there for about five days. Can you help?

Saludos y gracias,
Don Davis

From Sharon Malone:

My 12 sentence summary of life between graduation and now:

Became Shari when I went to Cal Poly SLO and our dorm of 26 gals had four Sharon’s.  At 21 graduated with a B.S. with the prehistoric major of Home Economics.  Thank the stars I didn’t have a husband prospect until I was 26, giving me time to start finding out who I was.  Still not so smart- I married the first man to ask me- not because I loved him, but because I was scared of being an old maid.  Turned out he didn’t love me either- and on the honeymoon we discussed how long we had to stay married to justify our parent’s expense of the wedding.  Did last 6 years, no children, after which I moved from Sacramento, San Jose to San Francisco and was having fun being single for 13 years before meeting Mr. Right when I was 46 and he was 48.  Bob (Kozma) and I have now been married 12 good years, 5 rough ones, and now 3 ecstatically happy ones.  Career wise… After college I had a few years of working as “Sally Sears” (story there) then in Sacramento as State Advisor for Student Organizations (FBLA, FFA, DECA), before I entered what was to become a 35 yr career as a Real Estate Broker (half commercial, half residential)…guess  I did go into “home economics”.   I retired in 2001, Bob in 2008 from his career as a Professor at the University of Michigan then 15 yrs as an International Education Consultant.  We split our time between Tahoe and San Francisco and when not traveling (we’ve done 60+ home exchanges (short swaps)– about 75% of them International) we enjoy getting together w/ family (Bob’s 2 adult kids & 2 young  grandkids)  active travel with friends (explore/learn/hike/bike/ski/eat/drink).  Recently various body creeks and groans reminds us that life has accelerated beyond belief …and somehow we got old – which makes life more precious than ever.

I invite/challenge each of you to bring us briefly up to date …..

A FUN letter from Don Davis!! (Received Sept. 23, 2016

Linda,

On Wednesday coming home from our bucket list Danube River holiday, we had to overnight in Elizabeth, NJ for a connecting flight yesterday to Costa Rica. We're checking in at a small non-descript hotel and there are only two couples in front of us checking in. The woman directly in front of us says she's joining a New England Fall cruise where she will be taking quilting lessons. The guy in front of her says his wife will be teaching the quilting classes.

THEN, when asked where she's from the lady says Redlands and the guy in front of her says that's where he went to high school. Of course, I interrupted and chimed in that I was a second-generation Redlands native and had also gone to Redlands HS, and in fact was heading there in ten days to attend my 50th HS reunion, Class of '66. The lady she's RHS Class of '68 and the guy in front of her says he's also RHS Class of '66--Chris Biddick. OMG what are the odds of that?!?!

Chris and I had breakfast yesterday. He will be on the Fall cruise to help his wife and doesn't get back to Tucson, where they live, until Oct. 1 and too late to attempt to drive to the reunion. However, I have an update, of sorts, on him and will be happy to share with anyone interested at the reunion.

Also, just before leaving for home on our side trip to Prague, Sharon Malone sends me a Facebook message that she's also on a European river cruise and arrives in Prague the day after we have left.

All and all--it's a pretty small world in which we live.

See you soon,
Don Davis

Sorry about my post about Frank Coe and Billy the Kid.  While I have close relatives named Coe my sister says that Frank Coe is not one of them, rather, that I am related to a man who came over on the Mayflower and was Miles Standish's right hand man or something, althouigh I think my fantasy choice of ancestors is better since I've never really given up playing cowboys and Indians.  As a kid I had a great silver toy revolver with a cowboy shirt and hat (it was a really cool red one that I left in the backyard and I think my evil neighbors stole).  Those were the days, and I still miss that red cowboy hat.

May 22, 2022....From Don Davis

"Bonjour from Paris.

Karen and I had a fabulous time with Michele at her flat in Pèzenas, France for the COVID-belated RHS'66 International Subgroup Reunion. Another Subgroup Reunion will happen at our place in Costa Rica in the near future. We are having Mary Frances and Steve in January '23 and may get Michele's visit to overlap. Now, if we can get Emily Beebee to visit us from Mexico we'll have quite an international RHS happening. Film at 11. Don

As many of us have retired, we have been riding into the Sunset.  I would like to recognize our newest member, Mike Miller.  After 48 yrs. with the same company, Mike turned in his papers on 2/3/23.

I'm happy to announce that Bill Funk and I, Don Davis, have volunteered to co-chair a NO-HOST Class of '66 60th Reunion consisting of a no-host dinner and picnic in Sylvan Park during the first part of October 2026. Bruce, Absolutley green bananas. These, in fact, are ripening in my window right now. They were totally green yesterday and will be yellow enough for breakfast tomorrow. Time moves very fast and ya' gotta' plan ahead, amigo. Mark October '26 on your calendar. DD

Don and Bill:  Calendar marked but I'm reminded that "man makes plans and God laughs!"

May enjoy a sample of your bananas on the next fishing adventure to CR!

Bruce,

Re the 60th reunion: Just cross your fingers and wish us luck. I make a great ceviche using marlin or seabass. Next time you have a fishing trip here, bring me some of your catch and we'll share a couple of bowls on our teraza.

Davis
