Gerry Wright Young

*I attended BYU in Provo, Utah from 1967-1970. Patty Southward and I were roommates during our sophomore year, and we had so much fun!
* When I married my husband (Dennis Young) in Jan.1970 I didn't finish my senior year, but worked to put him through school. We have two beautiful and accomplished daughters, Alisha born in 1975 and Erica in 1977. *I returned to BYU from 1984-86 and graduated in Secondary Education. I earned my Masters degree in Diverse Education in 1999.
I taught at West Jordan High School 1989-2014 and loved being a teacher of Interior Design, Child Development, Adult Roles and Financial Literacy. I loved the students and the variety that each day brought. ( but I think the testing is out of control)
*I have lived in West Jordan, Utah since 1975, and own a beautiful home where I enjoy decorating my home and planting my flower gardens each year. *I still play the piano, and taught 25 students for 11 years. I also play the organ at church each Sunday ( going on 41 years), and am very involved with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where I have served in the Young Women's, Relief Society, Primary and Sunday School Organizations.
( LDS.org) Many of my talents and abilities have developed as I have served each week at church, and being a member continues to bless my life in many ways each day.
*I have been blessed with many wonderful friends. I still am good friends with Sue Nix (Bragonje), Patty Southward ( Burk) and Sharon Allred (Jonas). I also have many friends in my neighborhood that I love to go out to lunch with, and chat away the afternoon !!!
*My greatest joys in life are my children! My oldest daughter, Alisha, is married to Mike and has two grandsons...Christian is 17 and is attending the firefighting acadamey, and Morgan is 11 and is in 5th grade. They are all Star Wars freaks!
Erica is married to Mike, living in Chandler, AZ with my granddaughters Victoria ( 18 and a senior in HS, and planning on being a Vet) and adorable Samantha ( 12 and in 7th grade).

Memories of Sequoia:
*Treble Clef 1965-67 Met every morning before school started. Played the piano for this talented group of girls. Performed at many assemblies, competitions, and the Lion's Club. Loved Mr. Jay Selby as our very talented and funny conductor and teacher
*A Cappella for 2 years- pianist and alto
Summer Music Theater- We practiced four hours a day for several weeks, under the direction of Mr. Selby, in preparation for presenting the musicals The Music Man and Carousel
*Sewing Classes for 4 years with Mrs. Cory ( who always showed us vogue magazine fashions), Mrs. Kelley and Mrs. Hashke-Jacobsen. Sharon Allred made a turquoise shirtwaist jumper and I made a red wool dress and cranberry coat.
*World Geography and Driver's Ed with Mr. Kimball- who always went around the class each day, saying that 1 in 4 of us would die in a traffic accident,and he would point at us...1,2,3,4. When he landed on you for # 4, you died. He always made sure to land on Jack Trujillo for # 4, because he was the class clown and so much fun!
*I only sluffed 1 period the entire 4 years of high school. Sharon Allred and I snuck out during 3rd period and went downtown. We ducked into Don's pop shop and the fabric store, but we were so paranoid about getting caught by the police, that we didn't have any fun!
*Senior Ball when we went out to dinner at Coyote Point, and then to the Bay Cruise. I went with boyfriend, Dale King, and tripled dated with Patty Southward and Sharon Allred and their dates.
* Hell's Corner
* Mr. Matsueda taught History and told us about when he and his family were Americans, but were Interred in Japanese camps during WWII.
* Miss Carlson's Freshman English in the Little Theater-where we first heard about Pres. Kennedy being assassinated.
* Mr. Ted Gould's English classes as a soph. and jr. Loved Tale of 2 Cities
