Barry was one of a few classmates who helped me wake up about getting good grades for college. A laid-back guy, he really liked to study and learn without showing off his knowledge. He also displayed his casual unselfish nature playing varsity basketball. I didn't know him outside of school, but his profile reads like he had a full, rewarding life.

Although I didn't know Barry that well, he was a schoolmate and the same age as most of us in the '60 graduating class.

My condolences and prayers to his family and friends. Regardless of age, it's always hard to say goodbye for the last time to a loved one. God Bless the Walson family

Barry was my best friend for over 70 years as we first met at Riverside Elementary school in 3rd grade.  We had a great group of close friends who enjoyed playing all kinds of sports and especially Pinochle during our school years.  After Barry met Julie, Carolyn and I spent wonderful family times together and I was blessed to be Barry's Best Man at his wedding.  Even though Barry and his family lived in Southern California, our family met them at least annually for family vacations.  As our kids grew up and we were empty nesters, Barry, Julie, Carolyn and I continued our annual trips to many parts of our country.  Barry got me interested in Tax Preparation in 1990 and urged me to get my Enrolled Agent license for the IRS.  Since then, Barry and I shared our tax information and questions with each other as we both had many clients.  Carolyn and I were fortunate to have a last trip with Barry and Julie the end of June, so we were happy to see them before he passed.  I know he had many friends through the years as he was one of the most kind, most loveing person I know.  We will miss him greatly.  Jim Keehner

Very sorry to hear of Barry's passing. I really enjoyed being his team mate on the basketball court during our days at McClatchy. Bob Ferrel

Jim just added comments about his special buddy Barry--who was not only a loyal friend. But a brother as well.. Jim and I were blessed not only by Barry but also by his beautiful wife Julie. We had so much fun together--especially our Houseboat  adventures at Shasta Lake for many years.  We were so thankful to have friends that we could  share our ups and downs with over the years.  Life is not always easy but when you have friends to laugh with, share your heart with and were always just a phone call away to listen when needed.  Wow--have we been blessed.  We thank God that He choose this wonderful family to be part of our life.  We will miss Barry so very much but will go forward hand in hand with his Julie.   Thank you Barry for every moment--   Love, Carolyn

Barry and I met in the 3rd grade we both lived on 6th ave.  He came to Sacramento from Deleware.  His dad worked for Cambell Soup.  Barry and I were best friends growing up on 6th ave.  We spent our summers at the Land Park Plunge swimming ever day.  As we grew up we both developed an interst in golf and played golf throuh out the summer at Land Park.  We used to use the fence route to get back and forth to our houses, that was going along the fence in our back yards.  Later on after high school we had summer jobs and the plan was always eat an early dinner and head for Bing Maloney and get in 18 holes before dark.  Barry's parents and my parents became good friends and my mom and his mom were always going out to lunch together.  Christmas eve we always spent with the Walsons.  So many memories.  In the later years Barry lived in Yorba Linda and on occasion I would visit or when he was in Sacramento we would always meet at Vics.  A very sad time for me, but I am so glad that I had Barry as a life long friend.

I am sorry to hear about passing of Barry Walson. I,as several classmates have stated, have known Barry from the 3 rd grade at Riverside School, Cal Middle School, and C.K. McClatchy High School.  Barry and I were also room mates at UCB for several years working on our degrees in engineering. He was a very good friend throughout these years as well as in our professional careers.  The last I spoke with Barry was about one month ago. Little did I know that would be the last..  My friend, Barry you will be missed by all that knew you.

Hello, this is Barry's daughter Coreen. Don DuPage helped me locate this page and I am deeply moved by all the loving comments and shared memories. I grew up hearing Don's name, Jim and Carolyn Kheener, Larry Thoman (sp?), and my dad's memories of his school days. I loved the home in Sacramento he grew up in, and thought Vic's was magical. I remember the large trees that line the streets and the smell of gardenias in the front yard. My Dad loved all his friends very much. I don't think I ever heard him share a bad word about anyone ever. He always saw the good, helped out the best he could, and would go the extra mile without having to be asked. He was the embodiment of living a life of love and service. I remember he told me his favorite Bible passage was Galations 5:22-23 which reads " But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law". When he told me that long ago, I didn't think anything of it. Now I know that this was my Dad's model for all he did and said. I am so very fortunate to have had Barry as my Dad. I cannot imagine what life will be like not having him there on the other end of the phone to talk to, to answer every one of my questions, and to be able to hear his voice. Yet what I Know is that my Dad is the qualities he expressed,  . .  he was never the body. And as I emulate those qualities, I feel him very near. When I think of him as a body and gone, I lose him. Let us all strive to embody the qualities of gentleness, goodness, meekness, patience, mercy, love, joy and peace. What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful Soul. I love you Dad.
