Debera “Debi” Lynn Evans Hansen
10/16/1953 - 8/12/2006
Debera Hansen, 52, of Soda Springs, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Aug 12, 2006, after a three and a half year battle with cancer. She was born Oct 16, 1953, in Santa Rosa, CA, to Clyde and Carol Middleton. Debi's childhood was spent in Phoenix, AZ. She was very fond of horses, regularly participating in barrel racing competitions. She was also active in cheerleading and softball. She moved to Salt Lake City at the age of 16, where she graduated from East High School in 1971. She then attended Utah State University where she met Kirk Lloyd Hansen. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug. 4, 1972. She was the proud mother of six sons and one daughter: Matthew (Keri) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Adam (Deborah) of Soda Springs, Justin (Jennifer) of Montpelier, Jeffrey (Joni) of Soda Springs, Jordan (Katrina) of Logan, Utah, Katelyn of Logan, Utah, and Garett of Logan, Utah.
In 1974, Debi and Kirk moved to Soda Springs, ID. Her next 32 years were spent in the service of others, including family, friends and the youth of the community. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in the Young Women program for over 23 years. Debi also enjoyed her callings in Sunday School and as a visiting teacher. Her most important calling was that of wife, mother and grandmother, never missing an opportunity to support her husband and children in their many activities. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandkids who loved her so much.
Her hobbies included gardening, art, reading, photography, boating and spending time at the family cabin at Bear Lake. She was also an avid Utah State Aggies fan, attending many games with her family. She and Kirk were inducted into the Utah State University Old Main Society for their support of the university and established The Hansen Family Foundation Athletic Scholarship in her name.
Many will remember Debi for her excellent cooking and her ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved. Her positive attitude and loving nature will be sorely missed.
Debi is survived by her father, Clyde (Ilene) Middleton of Mesquite, NV; mother, Carol Cannon of Soda Springs, ID; and, her husband Kirk of Soda Springs, their children, and 28 grandchildren (as of Feb 2021). She is also survived by brothers Lincoln (Rosie) Cannon of Eugene, OR, Christopher (Dee) Cannon of Salt Lake City, UT, Mark Evans of Phoenix, AZ, Daniel Evans of Los Angeles, CA, and sisters Elizabeth (Alan) Wayman of West Valley City, UT, Alison (Craig) Graham of Layton, UT, Diana (Paul) Sorenson of Springville, UT, Pam Evans of Salt Lake City, UT, and Melissa (Bill) Lauro of Salt Lake City, UT.
