Comments:

Through the years I have lived in Nevada, Washington, Colorado,VA, Alaska. Home is the Central Coast of California - Arroyo Grande, near Pismo Beach and San Luis Obispo. Paradise!

School Story:

Okay - this is not a funny story but it was a profound turning point for me and I will always be so grateful for it . . .
In my senior year I walking down a hallway and there were two boys standing there. One was new and he said to the other, "she's cute". Of course that made me happy, but then the other boy said, "don't bother with her, she is such a snob". I wanted to die right there! My shyness was interpreted as snobbiness. Believe me, I had nothing to be a snob about! But it explained why I was never asked out at school and it made me realize that I needed to do something about it so it wouldn't hold me back in life. So I did what any other extremely shy, introverted person would do . . . I started singing and playing guitar in the streets of S.F., auditioning for bands, and playing solo in clubs (with a phony I.D.). My first gig I was so nervous that my fingers got stuck in the guitar strings! But I got asked back! Maybe they thought I was a comedy act! Eventually I joined an established rock band. I am so thankful for that day in the hallway.
About 12 years ago, I was in San Francisco with my youngest son, Spencer, and I decided to drive down to San Carlos and show him my old high school. As we drove up the steep hill I told him stories of driving that hill in my beloved Hillman Minx (english car) and freaking out if the car or school bus in front of us stopped because if I had to stop my car on the hill (or any hill) it meant I was going to then roll backwards down the hill until I reached a flat area. I did that quite often . . . Anyway, we got to the top and -- NO SCHOOL! "Where's my school?" I shouted. Spencer just looked at me shaking his head, "Yeah, right mom. Good one." My son was used to me playing tricks on him so he figured this was just another one. What a shock it was.

The teacher who had the most positive impact on me at San Carlos High:

Mr. Wilson

Other favorite teachers include

Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Thurlow

My favorite subjects in high school were...

English, Physics, History

Some of my best friends in high school (and what I liked most about them):

Most of my close friends went to Woodside.
At school I hung out with Miriam Dedman (she changed her name to Mia several years ago) and Dee Zinkle. I had a horse, so everyday as soon as school was out, I headed to the stables.

Some of the most meaningful events or experiences that have occurred in my life since graduating from SCHS include...

Raising my children tops everything.

Countries (and cities) I have visited since graduating include:

UK - several times. We rent an old stone cottage in the countryside so I can pretend I'm British, and now have several dear friends there.

Several other countries. Also spend a lot of time in NYC.

Some of the most memorable/fun/funny/important things I've done since graduating include:

About 10 years ago I learned that we really do have the power to make things happen. I was reading a newspaper article about a young man who, in 1979, had been hired to kidnap, torture and murder a local little girl. He confessed and went to prison. 16 years had passed and he was up for parole. How can that happen? I learned that the girl's family had all died and there was no one to stand up for her, so I led a petition drive and collected thousands of signatures. Our D.A., who had been the lead detective on the case in '79, presented them in Sacramento. He wouldn't let me go because it was too dangerous. The man did not get parole and everytime he is up for parole, the petition is presented again. He is still in jail.

The scariest moment of my life since graduating from SCHS was when...

I keep having "near death" experiences. One thing I've learned when you're about to depart this life is -your life does not pass before your eyes. You just think, "Oh shit! I'm gonna die!"
I fell off a two story building. Ouch!
I was slammed into a cliff and then pulled into the ocean by a rogue wave. I had my 3 year old niece with me and almost lost her too.
I was run off the freeway (going 75) by a semi. The driver had fallen asleep!
I almost broke my neck shooting white water.
I nearly drown while scuba diving.
I was in a five car crash.
Anaphylaxis attacks due to extreme allergies.
Several 4x4s came off a truck in front of me on the freeway. I was going 75 and there were cars all around me. They were headed for my windshield. I slowed as much as I could and took them under the car. All four tires were destroyed but I didn't crash. I will only buy Michelin tires for the rest of my life!
I choked while alone-this was recently and so scary!
I've survived 1 major stroke in my 30's and 15 T.I.A.s. since. Enough, already! I can't spare any more brain cells.
I must have a very worn out guardian angel. Hopefully I have more than 9 lives!
