I am unmarried. I was in cabaret entertainment for years - I sang, danced and MC'd shows. I also auditioned for some Vegas revues and films, but was not picked up. After an acute, life-threatening illness in the late 90's, I entered monastic life for some time; went to a more austere monstery in the East in December, 2001, but was released from my vows to return to take care of my Mother in 2002.
I continued my theological studies from home and have simplified my spiritual life (hence the quaker in my email!).
My Mother died, at home, in 2007, and at that time, I was asked to take over her contract as manager of this building, since I had been the de facto manager since 2002. I know all the tenants they know and trust me and we have a good rapport. Quite aside from which, this suited my impression that the Gospel must be lived in the hurly-burly of the world, not clapped way somewhere, however beautiful that setting might be.
So, as Luther said, Here I stand.

The teacher who had the most positive impact on me at San Carlos High:

Virginia Rezer O'Hagan Herbert

Other favorite teachers include

Sandra Comesky, Mr. Kocher

My favorite subjects in high school were...

English, Humanities, science (without the math!) Civics

Some of my best friends in high school (and what I liked most about them):

Jack Meacham (NOT Patrick J.), Gerry Lancaster, Jack Goldberg

Classmates I keep in touch with (frequently, often, sometimes)

Virginia, and Dave Cooper, class of '70.

Some of the most meaningful events or experiences that have occurred in my life since graduating from SCHS include...

Ordination and monastic life, certainly, but I think taking care of a dying relative is an eye-opening, soul-searching experience. One must learn to hold one's tongue, to give without asking anything in return, to do whatever needs doing in love, valuing each moment you have with that person. But the care is given with a breaking heart, knowing that person is going to leave sooner or later. I was blessed, Momma went suddenly, on the Feast of the Epiphany in 2007. She continued teaching me about myself to the end! I will miss her.
I was a monastic in the Fruitvale in Oakland, running a transitional housing program for men. Sadly, the program was put in jeopardy by the "erratic" behavior of my superior. He, and some of his former frineds, eventually made himself so sensational as to involve the courts, make the news and brought the neighborhood into an uproar against him and the housing program. This brought the housing program down altogether.
I still feel badly for the men whose lives were cast into upheaval by the swift demise of the program. Much was done that was underhand and unnscrupulous, but it was long since out of my hands.
It did, however, help me learn that the church is not some physical thing: it is WHO we are, WHAT we are doing, and HOW we interact with the world around us.

Given the opportunity to collaborate with other classmates for professional reasons or just for fun, what kind of talents, skills, and abilities (that are enjoyable for you) could you offer?

I have beome disabled over a relatively short period of time. There is little I have to offer any longer, except to listen well (I was a very good confesor) or tell a joke periodically. I can't sing any longer. My gift has returned to the Source.

Countries (and cities) I have visited since graduating include:

I was in monastery in New Jersey, I worked with the Missionaries of Charity in Los Angeles for long periods, did some nursing work in a Dominican house in Oregon.

Some of the most memorable/fun/funny/important things I've done since graduating include:

Nearly dying, twice. This is memorable, and funny in an odd sense. It teaches one the fragile, ephemeral quality of life, which we do not recognize until we are faced with that Reality.

25 Random things about me...

One might rightly say: hermit, politically active (as best I can be), meditative, deeply spiritual

The best words and phrases to describe who I am these days are:

Please refer above^

The things I am most passionate about these days include...

Truth, justice and equity (NOT the real estate value - the human value), peace

Tell us about your driving tickets: the funniest, the most severe, the one you should have been given but didn't (and how you got out of it), and so on...

I do not drive now, anymore than I drove when I was in school. Cars are lethal weapons and ought to be banned. Too much of the current climate crisis is caused by our foolish dependence on the internal combustion engine and cars.

What I think about this web site, and what I think would make it even better:

Seems very comprehensive.
