Comments:

I have been married since 1990, with one son that graduated from Wapsie Valley High School in May 2009. Derrick is now a Senior at Upper Iowa University majoring in Wildlife Biology with a minor in Earth Science. I left college after being burned out on too many Calculus and Physics courses. Many of you new me as Dan the Weatherman and I am still heavily involved in weather. I I have been a severe storm spotter and climate observer (Coop observer) for the National Weather Service in Davenport, Iowa, since the late 1990's and an avid storm chaser since then. I am currently a weather spotter for KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids and KWWL-TV in Waterloo. You can also find me on Facebook under Danny Murphy, feel free to send me a friend request.

I am also a storm chaser with 2DSTORMS, the other "D" in 2DSTORMS is my son Derrick Murphy. One of my best chases was on June 17, 2010, in which Derrick and I documented 9 tornadoes in Southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa. Go to the 2DSTORMS youtube channel or type in Kiester, MN, wedge tornado and see all our videos on that 2DSTORMS channel. Feel free to visit my storm chasing website that my son and I have established at www.2dstorms.webs.com and feel free to become a member. This site is where I will post new videos and pictures from various chases that we have been on. Derrick and I, 2DSTORMS, chased 9 tornadoes in Northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota on June 17, 2010. We also chased a large Hp supercell in SW Iowa on March 22, 2011, which produced three tornadoes.

I survived a lightning strike while chasing storms near Denison, Iowa, on August 31, 2014. I spent 10 days in the Sioux City, Iowa, hospital recovering from injuries as a result of the lightning. I included a video in the video section.

I am a Freelance Video Stringer with Live Storms Media

I was also a civil war reenactor with the Holmes Brigade United States Volunteers at some pretty big reenactments, but the biggest was the 125th Anniversary reenactment of the Battle of Wilson's Creek which involved well over 5,000 reenactors
and the 125th reenactment of the Battle of Westport. I also attended reenactments in Macon, Windsor, Athens and Mine Creek, Kansas. I had a chance to be an extra in the movie "Gettysburg", but I was unable to attend, unlike others in my unit.

School Story:

I only hung around with a few guys in my days at SC. They were Alan Green, Sonny Broyles, and Dean Baker, but there are many other people that I thought were cool throughout my four years at SC. I remember the days of the arcades. We used to eat pizza at Godfathers and play asteroids at the arcade that used to be where the Long Johns Silvers/A & W is now. I remember doing well as a pitcher and third baseman for SC Tigers baseball team, until a liner back to the mound on my 1st varsity pitching stint broke a bone in my finger. My favorite teacher was Kim Graves, my favorite course was Animal Science. One of my most amazing educational accomplishments were the grades that I achieved in Calculus and Analytical Geometry in college. After making C's in high school Algebra, I made all A's in Calculus I, II, and III and never below a "B" on a test in those three years. I graduated from State Fair Community College in 1986, with an Associate of Arts degree, emphasis in Physics and Mathematics then attended the University of Missouri and Central Missouri State University and left as a senior at CMSU.

You can find me on Facebook at Danny Murphy or on twitter @2DSTORMS.
