Denis--don't remember if you were at the 40th reunion--but there was no electricity at Landerhaven for the Saturday night party!  It was hot and miserable!  Hope that never happens again!

That's the damn truth.......  never going back to that....

I did a long bike ride the day of the event, the main food was melted ice cream.  I was looking forward to a cool evening. My memory for faces is not great (because you all do look just the same as you did back when) so I was nonplussed by being unable to read name tags in the dark. Maybe will be time for my decennial pilgrimage to OH next summer.

Funny how that has become a vivid memory from nine years ago.  At least something stood out to make that night a unique experience.   Many of you let your hair down and many of you shed some clothes. Those of you who still remembered how to have fun stuck it out and still managed to have a good time. Be glad you were not at the large formal  wedding taking place in the grand ball room next door that night.  I am truly sorry about that mishap.  This time we are having the Saturday night party at a place where they pay their electric bills on time so the air conditioning will be up to par.   We have started to plan the 50th and as a reminder it will be the weekend of July 18th, 2015.  There will be events that whole weekend.  This will be the best one ever.  I promise you. After all... I am the same trustworthy guy that I was back in high school.

Hi Everyone;  I would like to suggest that the reunion planning committee plan NOT to have loud music blaring.  It's an impossible task to fight loud music while trying to reconnect with old classmates.  Also a buffet of an intereting assortment of foods or heavy hors d'oeuvres where one can serve oneself eliminates the sitdown get caught in one place all evening syndrome.  It's nice to have tables and chairs so one can visit and eat to, but not forced to stay in one place all evening.

I totally agree about the loud band and sit down dinner!

And I hope that the majority of the event is inside in airconditioning.

Torchy and the entire reunion committee are to be congratulated on the excellent website and job they have done for the 50th. The sad part is to see how many (54) are now listed in the "In Memory" section and I suggest we dedicate the reuion to them.

Dear Fellow Mercerites,

Torchy was kind enough to recently post 6 class photos from my 6 years at Mercer. He even took the time to enlarge every face which, depending upon your mood, is either hilarious or humiliating. I have not had the time to go in there and add names but you might scroll down and find yourself somewhere.

Enjoy!

Hello class of 65. Hats off to Torchy for a phenomenal job putting this site together. I also wanted to wish one of our classmates, Larry Terkel, success this week while he swims for gold at the Fina World Masters Championships in Montreal. One of the memories I have of our class was that we had some of the best swimmers in Ohio and Shaker had one of the best teams. It's good to see Larry continuing that tradition.

Thank you Jon.  This is big news about Larry Terkel.  Please keep us informed when his match is done.  I am sure he is in better shape than Diana Nyad even though he will not start swimming from Cuba . And he is more honest.   After all he is from Shaker Heights where honesty was the flagship characteristic taught by our teachers who were our roll  models ...Cough Cough.  By the way.....I have been working on our class reunion and dropped in on the Class of 64's Friday night party at the Winking Lizard here in Cleveland to do some spying. This was last weekend.   More information on our 50th reunion as the year goes on.  Reconnecting on this website and encouraging each other to attend can be a strong factor in gaining attandance.  I am getting a very good feedback already.  I also have purchased a state of the art "fuel cell" that I will be bringing along with me in case the power goes out.  This way we do not have to rely on power from the grid.  ( I have not charged it to the cost of the reunion).  So now classmates have no excuses.

NAKED BOOK TALK
Hi, everyone,
I'll be doing a reading of my novel NAKED at the Beachwood Library, by Skype. October 1, 7 p.m.  My son Tom will probably be Skyping, too.

Hope you can come!

The novel has been described as a cross between The Time Traveler's Wife and Midnight in Paris. It takes place at the Stanford Rodin Sculpture Garden.

Thanks, Sandra, for reading my novel.  And Judith, hope you like it!  It's a comforting feeling, and also feels like a bit of a time warp, to have people I went to high school reading my novel–our roots go so far back.

I'm sorry to hear about Debby Fry.

Alan was one the people I was hoping to see at the reunion.  Six years of homeroom.  Watching Browns Away Games.  Life too short.

Like Jerry, Alan Franklin was in homeroom with me at Byron and at Shaker.   But I met him long before Jerry,I first met Alan on May 12, 1947 when our mothers shared a room at St. Luke's Hospital on the day we were born.  His passing makes me feel very mortal.

I missed our 40th reunion because my husband was sick and dying of lung cancer.  Hearing there was no air conditioning makes me glad I missed it!!  I look forward to seeing as many people as possible at our 50th.  Life is indeed short, and every day above ground is a good day.  I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving, and I wish you all Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah.  Looking forward to July 2015!!!

TRISH....the truth of the matter is that we ran out of money at the last minute and we could not pay for the air.  Cool air was an additional charge.  The good news is that this will not happen at this 50th Reunion.  The positive response we have gotten with our early survey was huge with many booking their reservations already. If you heard that many of our classmates were full of "hot air" at our 40th they meant it was because the lack of air condtioning. People had to let their hair down and some even shed clothing.  It wasn't all that bad. If you could get by the smell of sweat it kind of made things interesting.  I was still upset about it.  Be glad you were not at the Indian wedding that night at Landerhaven all wrapped up in a ten yard sari in the grand ballroom with no cool air that night just down the hall from our event.  By the way...The smaller January Class of 65 from  Heights High fell apart at Landerhaven that night and crashed our party.  I am guessing that hey did not pay for air conditioning either.

FYI: As a 1965 CHHS grad (humble guest here). Heights High has always been in the money and hence current on all debts due and as a result we always beat Shaker in football. Not to be disputatious.

Not to be contrary, after now living in Los Angeles for 30 years, I loved the sweltering night of our reunion. It enhanced the whole nostalgia of the event and to top it off my old HHS boyfriend came looking for me after his party went bust and we reconnected, for a short time, after.  Not sure the 50th could top that night.

Dare I say there is nothing tlike a CHHS guy. I told that for years to women (til married in 1985) none of whom ever believed me.
