In Memory

Katie Juhl

December 1, 1955 - February 28, 1984

Katherine Dolores Juhl was born on December 1, 1955. Her family moved to South Pasadena when she was a year old. She attended Lincoln Elementary School. She graduated early from South Pasadena High School to go to Paris for a year to work au pair with a Parisian family while learning French and getting the feel of French life. She went on to Oregon State University to get her degree in journalism in 1978.
In 1979 she attended her sister Mary’s wedding in Madrid and decided to spend some time there, improve her Spanish and enjoy the wonders Spain has to offer. She stayed in Spain long enough to see the birth of her first niece.
Upon going back to the States she chose to live in San Francisco and got an interesting job there working for an import-export firm. She died February 29, 1984 in San Francisco in a very unfortunate accident at the age of 28.
She loved everything in life: reading, writing, travelling, eating and having a good time. Katy was the joy of everyone in the family; the one who kept us all together; who always loved and supported us in spite of ourselves. She is very much missed. She is now survived by her sister, father and two nieces.

I will never forget her gentle spirit. As shy and reserved as I remember her, she would always look up at you in the halls long enough to say a friendly hello and then return to her modest, beautiful self. Who knew she was a world traveller who loved French. Since we both ended up in SF, I probably would have reconnected with her to share our common interests in being francophiles.
She is missed.
