
Douglas (Doug) Ray Halvorson, 70, passed away peacefully on Sept. 11, 2024, with family by his side at St. Pat’s Hospital in Missoula, Mont. Doug succumbed to his battle with Lupus and COPD.
Doug had a beautiful voice often singing solo performances and participating in numerous choral groups including “All Northwest Choral Festival” while attending high school in Sunburst. After graduating he continued singing in musical groups while attending Concordia College, traveling throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, and Montana. He was also an avid bowler throughout his life.
With a BA degree in Business, he held numerous positions in the field of accounting, working first at the University of Minnesota reviewing financial records. While living and working in Minneapolis, Doug met his life partner, Richard Dordan. He and Richard owned and operated a business called “Flowers on 54th.” They later sold their business and moved to a small resort on Mille Lacs Lake, Minn.
Eventually Doug was drawn back to Montana and he and Richard purchased a home northwest of Victor, often hosting gatherings for family and friends.
Moving to Missoula after a few years, Doug became employed by an IT company called Impact before going to work for the UM Bookstore.
In later years, Doug was the primary caregiver for his parents, Torval and Eileen Halvorson, as well as being the financial manager for the family farm.
His nieces and nephews enjoyed lively conversations with Uncle Doug. Doug will be remembered for his empathy, kindness, loyalty and loving generous spirit.
Doug was preceded in death by his partner of many years, Richard Dordan; his mother, Eileen; and nephew, Bodie Gil Torval Halvorson.
He is survived by his father Torval, of Cut Bank; sisters, Bonnie (Tom Barger) of Arlee, and Carla (Lyle Mitchell) of Columbia Falls; brothers, Jay (Amber Anderson) and Mark, of Kevin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
