Greg Kimmet - Class Of 1973 VIEW PROFILE

Gregory R. Kimmet was called home to heaven on June 10, 2015, at the age of 60 years. Greg was born May 20, 1955, to Charles and Katherine (Hey) Kimmet. He grew up in Sunburst, MT with 8 brothers and 1 sister. He graduated in 1973 from North Toole High School, and later from Montana State University, Bozeman, with a degree in mathematics-statistics. From 1977 until 2010, he worked as a statistician, and then Deputy Director in ND, with the USDA- National Agriculture Statistical Service (NASS). He often called himself a "bean-counter" and trained others to excel in agency positions. In 1982, he married Sandra "Sandi" (Nelson) in Hendricks, MN. They had two daughters - Amanda and Samantha, and their family was complete. Many adventures in life and relocations for work occurred. He worked in South Dakota, the national office in Washington, DC, as well as Minnesota and North Dakota. "Home is where the USDA sends you" was a sign in his office. He enjoyed numbers, their life, working, riding bike, refereeing sports, trips to MT, the family farm in MN, and hiking. He dearly loved his family and others. He had a Servant's Heart and was always willing to help others.
Greg was diagnosed in 2009, the day before his 54th birthday, with Early Age Onset Alzheimer's Disease. This changed life dramatically, but "Team Greg" (Sandi and Samantha) worked to keep him safe and happy. In the past three years, that had been 24 hours a day.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kay and Charlie; one stillborn sister; aunts and uncles; and in-law and friend, Elmer Nelson.
Greg is survived by his wife, Sandi; daughters, Rev. Amanda (David) Simons and Samantha Kimmet; siblings, Michael (Constance), Daniel (Susan), Ronald (Margaret), Gary (Teresa), Lyle (Roxanna), Lynn, Dale (Lisa), Theresa (William) Dickey, and Nicholas (Penny); many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; in-laws Bernice Nelson, Carol and Bob Kreager and family; along with friends and family across the country.
