Parents Told Son Killed in Korean War

SUNBURST-Death of their son, Cpl. Frank N. Phillips, 20, in battle action in Korea Sept. 16 was the subject of a telegram received here Saturday by the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank N. Phillips.

According to the U. S. Marines Headquarters message, Phillips was killed while serving with the Fifth Regiment of the First Marine Division.

Born in Kevin, May 2, 1931, Phillips had resided most of his life in Sunburst. Educated in the local schools, he graduated trom Sunburst high school in 1950. He enlisted in the marine reserve unit at Shelby and went overseas Feb. 14, 1951. Since arrival in Korea his unit has been in the thick of most of the major battles.

While in high acbool here, Phillips was an outstanding student leader and athlete. He served as class president during each of his four years in high school, was on the yearbook staff, played halfback four years, was a pole vaulter and captain of the track team and was one of the leading basketball scorers as well as team captain.

Surviving in addition to the parents are a brother, Gary; grandfather, Frank T. Phillips, Sunburst, and two uncles, George F. Phillips, Sunburst and William Phillips, Los Angeles.  Memorial service. are expected to be conducted here soon in one of the local churches.
