Bill Maddock

Boise - William J. Maddock passed away peacefully February 6, 2021 at the age of 83 at his home in Boise, Idaho.

Bill was born June 3, 1937 in Great Falls Montana, the first child of Vincent and Alda Maddock. He was raised in the beautiful town of Sunburst and always said how lucky he was to spend his childhood and teen years there surrounded by family, friends and neighbors. The small town and open prairie gave him the freedom to have many adventures and experiences. His father ran the local grocery store and grazed sheep. Once he had to go out with his father during a winter blizzard to lead the sheep away from danger by crawling across the prairie with bells on. During that blizzard he decided that he would perhaps rather look for other places to adventure.

So it was that Bill set out to live his life in many different mostly warm places across the country. He staffed hospitals and helped unionize nurses in Montana and had a long career in the medical field as a X-Ray Technician. He collected art wherever he traveled, and generously gave much of it away. He gave a great home to enough small dogs to become the patron saint of miniature canines. He retired in Boise, Idaho to live close to his brother Ric, and had many adventures and misadventures with him and his sister Val. Bill also became very active in the Knights of Columbus and Saint John's beautiful Cathedral, regularly volunteering to help the homeless and others in need. Bill was also a lifelong supporter of the arts, volunteering with the Ballet and Symphony wherever he lived.

Bill had many experiences and lived life to the fullest. He had wild and entertaining tales from his adventures all over the world and was a wonderful, easy and incredibly generous person to spend time with. He made friends wherever he went and will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who knew him. Bill was warm and friendly, calmly courageous, and adhered to a positive and good humored outlook, even in trying situations and at the end of his life.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents and a son, David. He is survived by his lovely daughter Doni and his siblings Val Jean and Ric. He will be interred at the cemetery in Sunburst this coming summer. He will be greatly missed.
