Robert Daniel McAlpine, 86, passed away Oct. 6, 2024, in Shelby.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Sweetgrass Legion Hall.

Robert known to most as “Bob” was born March 15, 1938, in Sweet Grass to John and Jeannie “Jean” (Harvie) McAlpine.

He grew up just west of Sunburst on the family farm with his parents and four sisters, Janet, Bessie, Margaret, and Mabel. He spent all his school years in Sunburst where he met the love of his life Yvonne Carlson. They married shortly after graduation and began their life together. They raised their four children: Elaine, Lorelie, Leisha and Wes on the family farm in the coming years.

Bob in his younger years enjoyed his leatherwork and was on the board for the Sunburst Fire Department for several years. He was an “Honorary” Legion member, and he loved helping the guys in Sweet Grass prepare the wild game stew each year. He spent many a hunting seasons with Tommy McAlpine in Tommy’s homemade “Hacienda” and when hunting buddies would come, he would make them pies but rarely made them at home. Bob also loved attending brandings, playing darts and of course loved farming and his Charolais cows.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne McAlpine; parents, John and Jean McAlpine; his four sisters, Janet McAlpine Thielen, Margaret Sveum, Bessie Bielen, Mabel Neva; another baby sister and baby brother; and great granddaughter, Heather Shea.

He is survived by his children; daughters, Elaine (Jim) Suta, Lorelie (Herb) Hartzell, Leisha (Tony) Fleisher; and son Wes (Marlena) McAlpine. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
