We enjoyed being with our cousin getting together and having fun I can remember going over to the mountains to Lake 5 when we were small. and Jerry and his brothers and sister coming to the farm to play. We loved our cousin.

Jerry is an example of "nice guys NOT finishing last". Eventhough I was a year younger and an "outsider" who lived in the suburbs (Kevin), Jerry and I became good friends in grade school. His athleticism was only surpassed by his caring attitude and his infectious laughter. To Jerry, everything was important and he truly made everyone around him feel connected. Family. Friends. Teams. Whether partcipating in a school activity or hitting the winning basket in basketball, Jerry was always a class guy.

I miss my friend.

Larry, you really hit the nail on the head.  Jerry Svuem was a class guy in any endeavor he undertook.  He was, in my estimation, a gifted human being in all respects.  His God-given athletic ability set him among the top athletes to ever attend NTCHS.  His intellect set him at the highest level, but it was his determination to excel in whatever challenge he faced that set him still further above the norm.  Jerry never let it go to his head.  He might justifiably have accepted "Star" status during his NTCHS years.  Instead, he downplayed his importance and heaped praise upon teammates and fellow students at every opportunity.  I remember playing summer league softball, pickup basketball, and alumni football games with and against Jerry after he left high school; he was always gracious to this "old man"--then in my thirties and forties.  Jerry might have scored thirty points in a basketball game, while I contributed maybe six points, but he'd always slap me on the back and say, "Great game, Joe!" I guess that might indicate that he was something of a BSer, too.  But Jerry Svuem is still my kind of guy, a real Class Act.  As a matter of fact, remembering Jerry prompts me to go directly to "Message Forum" and suggest he be nominated for the NTCHS Hall of Fame.  If there is no such Hall, there should be.
