Richard Arthur Carlson

CASPER — Memorial services for Casper resident Richard Arthur Carlson, 58, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery Chapel by the Rev. Charles Russell. Military rites will be accorded by the United Veterans Council of Natrona County. 

He died September 1, 2002,  at Wyoming Medical Center, after a long struggle with cancer. 

Born February 7, 1944, in Minot, ND, he was the son of Earl LeRoy and Florence Evelyn (Blackwood) Carlson; and was raised and educated in Sunburst. MT, graduating from NTCHS in 1962.

In July 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam and Germany. He was honorably discharged in July 1967. He graduated from the University of Montana in 1971 and moved to Casper in November 1976. 

On Oct. 3, 1998, he married Nona Camp in Casper. 

He had been employed at NOWSCO Services, Salt Creek Freightway, and WESKEM; and, for the last 12 years as a truck driver at RW Specialties. One of his favorite activities was driving a truck. 

A member of American Legion Casper Post No. 2, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10677 and the Eagles Lodge, he enjoyed traveling; doing crossword puzzles; and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He was known as a loving and caring man. 

Survivors include his wife of Casper; mother of Great Falls, MT; three stepchildren, Debbie Wiese and her husband of Benkleman, NE, Ron Camp and his wife of Billings, MT, and Tom Camp of Brookings, OR; brother, Don Carlson of Rock Springs, WY; two sisters, Doris Stewart of Fort McLeod, Alberta, Canada, and Renee Carlson of Great Falls, MT; six step grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. 

Memorials may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary Past President Parley Casper College Nursing Scholarship, in care of Dorothy Boam, PO. Box 1682, Glenrock, WY 82637; or left at Bustard's Funeral Home and Crematory, which is in charge of arrangements.
