Important events -- antiwar demonstrations, Black student sit-in at Admissions Office, mass meetings about civil rights and peace -- influenced my whole life. Helped make me an activist. Music also has been a big influence. Orchestra, chorus, folk music. Now I teach my students civil rights and labor songs, along with the history of those movements.

5 ... I became a C.O. and worked at nursing home. Eventually burned my draft card.

Senate Page in 1965... saw the Voting Rights Act pass... helped make me a civil rights activist.

Worked for a federal health and safety commission for several years, then switched careers and became a music teacher in the D.C. public schools and a violin/viola teacher at DC Youth Orchestra Program.

Played fiddle and sang with the topical folk ensemble Bright Morning Star... performed with Odetta, Pete Seeger, and others... songs for equality, safe energy, peace.

Still teaching music and occasionally performing. Music with a message. Swarthmore Bulletin (Fall 2018) did an article about my violin students playing "Lift Every Voice and Sing."
