Sorry Margo! But I am the one who set up the special tricks for the Bagwell. One time I had everyone get up and walk back to the pencil sharpener at 2:30 on the dot. She responded by saying, "All right, all right. Let's not have a constant flow back there." Dumb!! Another time I had everyone drop their ink pens in those metal book baskets on the side of our decks, again at exactly 2:30. I also had everyone drop a book into those metal book holders. (2:30)
After these events, she would usually look at me and Karen. What fun we had!!

Does anybody remember when Tom Dineley and some other guys in our class
released all the dogs from the pound?? What a Hoot that was. Are any of the
other participants willing to confess?? Tom and I were going together at the time, so I heard it straight from the horses mouth. What fun we had back then!!

Hi all,
Okay, this may be a little weird, but I've seen quite a few comments from the women of '69 who say they do not have many pix of themselves because they are usually the ones who take the pictures....which leads to this...I recently attended a funeral of a relatively young co-worker. He was in his early 40's and passed away suddenly. He left behind his wife and three children. Marty was a popular fella- lots of friends and a happy go lucky guy, a good, decent family man. During the funeral services we were treated to a video slide show of photographs of his life (you know the ones --from the time he a was a roly poly cute baby all the way through his adulthood). He was always smiling and happy, and there were lots of photos with his wife and children and friends as they enjoyed family activities, boating, fishing, camping...these good hard workin folks were always having a great time..you'd see Marty on a boat, enjoying a cold one, maybe having a cigarette, shirtless, basking in the sun...those photos just brought a happy tear to all of us. As we left the funeral, we ladies all realized that we don't have too many photos of ourselves, we too were the ones behind the camera....so this is the plan, women of '69...get your camera, gather some friends, grab a cold one, stick a cigarette in your mouth (don't inhale), slather on the sun screen, take your tops off--and smile and laugh and say cheese!!

What fun, today I got a package in the mail from Donna...it was a collection of copies of "The Warrior" from senior year and even a few from before. Boy, are we going to have fun with these. Becky has sent some scans from some Warriors and the T News and now we have an even bigger supply. Thanks, Donna... Watch for "A Special Report by Mork from Ork on the Class of '69 Reunion at Stallion Springs Lodge," coming soon.

In Up with People all the girls wore jumpers in different colors with white blouses. I remember mine was green. I remember I became so adament in my views when I was in that group that my mother was worried that I was in a 'cult'. In looking back, maybe there was some truth to it. Had some good times.

Hey Carrie, great idea for the group shot. Maybe we could get together, take the shot, and then pray someone will develop them! Hey, maybe make a calendar! We could sell them and make some money! :)

Didn't Mr. McElroy get the nickname because he broke his back, had a brace and couldn't bend over so he had to "squat". I got this info from my brother, Larry, who like Claudia, hardly ever forgets anything!

Could the bowling alley picture be from our grad. night party? Remember, we had the place all to ourselves all night and could bowl all we wanted to free, and hangout in the bar and the poolroom, and some of the teachers watched us and when we left the party they would call the parents and let them know we had,and once you left the building, you could not come back in. They thought we would sneak boose in! We wouldn't do that-- now would we!
Claudia, make sure you invite Mork again, this reunion really will blow his mind, the 10yr. one just got him primed for this one.

Thanks Donna

I think you are right about Mr.
McElroy and his back. Now I feel bad for even bringing it up!!
Poor old guy.

Do you remember riding the CCI Prison buses to Sacramento when our Up With People group performed at the Capitol? Did we spend the night there too? Can't remember. Just remember all the weird stares when we all got off the buses in our bright colored shifts/jumpers.

OK, my curiosity is getting the best of me, who's going to answer the "white house" question on the fridge?

Nick??????

02/26/09 10:35 PM #31

Claudia Galloway (Elliott)

Yeah, I've been wondering about the White House, too...don't forget to check the refrigerator, even though it's all the way down at the bottom of the page.
My Sing Out dress was a dusty rose color, the only one that color that I recall. It wasn't the color I wanted, but I think it must have been some fabric my Mom had.
Girls...do you remember sewing clothes? I remember that Yvonne was a beautiful seamstress. Robin, too, if I recall. Miss Ostendorf taught me to make flat-felled seams. I remember that we could get fabric at Yeager's and maybe at Koutroulis' too. Not sure. Some things are fading. But I definitely remember Yeager's. I didn't get to go with Sing Out to the prison. My father wouldn't let me. Actually, my father wouldn't let me do much of anything, if I recall. Ah well, I survived.

My mom and I were talking about "Sing Out" this morning.
I had a lavender jumper and only got to participate because my cousin, Denny, was involved. My mom didn't like the prison involvement piece either and thought Denny would look out for me. I remember doing my solo piece at the prison and forgetting the words! Denny kept playing, bless his heart, and then nodded at me to just give up and go back to my spot. I retreated and the show just went on. That was team work. Also, anyone remember when ww went to New York? My mom said the only thing I learned while there was how to crack an egg with one hand. She thought that was a pretty expensive trip to learn how to that. I can still do it though, so the experence served me well! :) I couldn't sing all that well, but I loved it when people applauded for us. I don't remember the trip to Sacramento, so maybe I didn't get to go. Becky, wasn't your mother a chaperone on some of the trips?

Bekki Pena (McCurdy)

Had lunch today with Donna and Claudia. What a great time in reminescing and laughing! I took a picture of Donna and Claudia, and Claudia took a picture of Donna and me. I won't post my picture until after the website is upgraded. That actually is a very good excuse because I don't know how to post the picture off the little disc thingy from my camera. Ok, Ok, I'll fess up that I am not up with the age of computers, digital cameras, or any other electronics! I have to wait until my daughter gets home to help me out. Sorrryeee!

Donna, I remember us going to New York. It was my first time of leaving home for any length of time and to go all the way across the country--WOW! I have pictures of the trip. Mary Ganzfriend and I flew to New York together. I had to fly back by myself! Me, a little country bumpkin, who had never been anywhere by herself and was now in the country's two largest airports. Was I ever a nervous wreck!! Then there was a lay over in LA before flying to Bakersfield. I remember trying to keep my cool and acting as if I had done this before. It was an experience I will never forget. By the way, what was the purpose behind UP with People anyway? Was it a peace movement? I was in it just for the fun of it, but I got to do things I probably never would have done.

I just sent you a huge e-mail but I wanted to admit that I, too, am so dumb when it comes to computers and digital cameras.
I don't even own a cell phone. My kids tease me all the time. My little grandsons, Sam 8 and Drew 6 know more about computers than I do. They say to me
"Grandma, this is how to do it and Grandma you are so silly. God love them.

Nick, I tell the stories about stacking hay that summer still today! We got ready for football that summer, no doubt. We'd turn over hay bales then chase the mice. Who had energy for that while stacking hay?

Melinda, have you signed up on the site? I can't post to you. I have to say that is one sweet ride in the photo contest. I'd have been proud to cruise the Burger Spot in that!

Everyone, Thank You for signing my yearbook and sending your Sen pic to me through Lisa Brown. I am sorry I haven't stayed in touch with anyone. My home life was a mess when I left and this is the first time any of you are hearing the story, but I had broken my tailbone and my back and damaged my vertebra top to bottom at Christmas just before I left. It happened on the mountain where everyone went to go sledding. I didn't go to the Dr cause my Step-Dad was out of work and my Mom was severely depressed. I was I was hurting terribly, but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to leave to come back to Bob in the next couple of weeks if I didn't pass my school Finals for the Second Quarter. I could hardly walk or sit and I was in excruciating pain and I had to come back and go through PE. Do andy of you remember, we had to play Basketball, Build a Human Pyramid (I was on the bottom with others stacked on top of my back... can you imagine) and finish by doing gymnastic jumps over "the horse". I don't know how I made it through that day. It wasn't til 1981 that I had xrays and was shown and told the extent of what had happened to me in 1969. My jaw had been knocked out of place and I had been suffering from TMJ and cervical disc problems for 13 years. The pain was causing me to grind my teeth (even at night while I slept). I finally got help for that when I had my mouth wired-shut for a month to let the tendons relax. After that, I was rear-ended by a car (police car of all things) in 83 and it restimulted the cervical disc problem... the nerve was pinching down into my right arm (unbearable pain) and I lost the use of my arm and hand. I had to have surgery at that point. That wonderful Dr "gave me my life back" through his expert care. However, he told my (2nd) husband that I would need to come back every year thereafter to get the next vertebra fused all the way down ... Well ,,, I haven't ... and don't plan to either. I have had to have some cortisone shots due to more injuries, but I am staying away from hospitals (in general). A nutrition company came into my life that has really helped me understand how I could control alot of the pain through diet and supplement changes. It also got rid of 40 years of allergy / asthma & sinusitus suffering which was like "getting my life back" also. Now you all know "the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey would say, which has been the basis of a 40 year mystery...whatever happened to our friend from Colorado.......well, that is part 1 anyway... does anyone else feel like they have lived 9 lives since then, ha ha.

Ok Melinda, you win! My life has been pretty mundane...the way I like it! We moved around a lot for the first 13 yrs of our marriage, but that is about as exciting as it gets. When in Lancaster, I did daycare for many years and then I worked as a Youth Minister at Sacred Heart Catholic Church...that was a wonderful job, although dealing with parents can be disheartening to say the least...now I am retired and living a simple life in Northern AZ.

Hi Everyone, I went on the "webcam". May not be a big deal to those who live there, and it is nighttime, but I got excited and felt "connected" with you all when I did it.
I am looking forward to seeing what I can see when it is daylight, Ha. Claudia, Becky, whoever put it up, Thank You Mel
