I live in Oregon. I'm on my second marriage which is going much better than the first one; my current wife never throws hard objects at me. I wrote "THE TAXMAN COMETH," the second funniest book ever written. (The funniest is THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY). Actually there were five books in the "increasingly inappropriately entitled Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy," so arguably my book is the sixth funniest book ever written. However one of the Hitchhiker books wasn't that funny, so I'd say mine is at least fifth. Anyway I also host a podcast which is mostly political satire and me arguing with people. (https://jimgreenfield.fireside.fm.) I'm not nearly as much of an s.o.b. as I was in high school. Look forward to hearing from all of you. Jim

School Story

I'm sure you all remember where you were on Nov. 22, 1963 when Dr. Keim came on the P.A. and told us President Kennedy had been shot. I was in math class. Everyone sat in stunned silence. The teacher (I believe her name was Mrs. Cochran), after a moment's hesitation, began teaching as if nothing had happened. At first no one wanted to answer her question, but then we went on with the class as if everything were normal. At the end of the class, our last class of the day, Dr. Keim came back on and told us that President Kennedy was dead. I remember going up to the front of the class along with Mark Sheetz and Mrs. Cochran, and they both agreed that Lyndon Johnson was a competent man, in other words, everything was going to be alright. But I don't think everything was alright, and it still isn't alright.

Happy birthday, Jeffrey. How has your life gone so far? The main thing I remember about you is that you were first in the class, no small accomplishment at a school that had so many smart kids. So belated congratulations. Jim Greenfield
