Oh happy day!! I wasn't home all day yesterday, taking the oldest for a tour of UNC-G. Anyway, got home and my hubby told me the bomb squad was here!! TYVM!! I love it, especially the cards---too funny. You're too sweet to send but very grateful you thought of me. Again, thanks.

We hope so too, because 'Shagging on the beach in Yorktown' is in the plan...(at this time)

Hi All!

I know I haven't posted much, but I am keeping up with my "forum" reading as much as possible . . .

I'd like to second (third, fourth, or fifth) the idea for next year's Friday Night Social down in Yorktown - - that is if the circumstances work out. We were there this past Friday evening to hear the Catalinas. What a beautiful night and great setting. I always enjoy going down there. Oh, and there's also the "Freight Shed" that can be rented out for formal events . . . just a thought.

Thanks for linking the Paul Kirby article. He is definitely one of the best! I had such a crush on that man in intermediate school . . . I don't think I ever learned history quite as well either before or after I had him for a teacher.

Hey JoAnn and James, It's still early in the planning stage and we're exploring different ideas and venues. Thanks for the idea on the "Freight Shed". I'm assuming that the freight Shed is where the old Post Office used to be.

My sisters Class of "72" York High had their Friday night social at the "Shagging on the Riverwalk". She said it work out really nice. I've seen Slapwater play down at Yorktown in the past. That would be the altimate, especially if it's on YC's dime. Slapwater is running $2500 to $3000 for an evening. OUCH!!!

Thanks again for the ideas and if anyone else has some ideas please be sure to share them.

Happy Birthday Gina!!! Hope all your wishes come true!

I've never been to shaggin night at Yorktown, but it sounds like a good idea to me. Count me in, :)

Jo Ann, you are not the only one that had a crush on Mr. Kirby, mmm mmm mmm, lol.

Hey Joann, Missed you there last Friday. I will be there this Friday. My wifes brother is visiting from Florida and that is the plan if the weather holds out. Yes the freaight shed is the old Post office, it was just moved off of the pier and re-built. Not sure of the cost, but I can check if needed. Just let me know.

James - sorry we missed seeing you. We hope to make it back this Friday too, if the weather holds out. I'd totally forgotten that they allowed the "good" beverages down there. Needless to say, I plan to be much better prepared this weekend :-). If you spot a brown, small-pony sized dog that's part mix lab, sharpee' & akita towing (2) adults around, that's us. Did see Cathy (Reese) Anderson leaving, but I wasn't close enough to talk with her. Hi Cathy & Gary!

Louie & Dave (and committee) - last summer, we met (1) of our friends down @ Shaggin' on the Beach for his Bethel High School Reunion. They had cordoned an area off up on the hillside, marking it w/some makeshift signs and had coolers of drinks and light food fare for the reunion-goers. It seemed to work out great, but then again, they had excellent weather that night.

And yep, the "Freight Shed" is the old Post Office (like James said) - - it now sits almost directly across from Ben & Jerry's. My girlfriend's son had their wedding reception there last May. Very nice!! It was a little cool (being mid-May), but they had a tent erected behind the Shed with (1) side opened to it's back entry & the other opened to the water. There were at least 200+ people there w/a sit-down catered dinner/buffet, bar set-up, and a DJ playing music outside under the tent for dancing. I'm not sure about any of the costs for rental, what the max capacity is, or if you can arrange the food catering through them?? Maybe James could get more specific information later, or I could contact my girlfriend for details, if you'll decide to entertain that idea .

Hi Doug - Glad to see there are other "every-once-in-a-while" message posters like me . . .

Terri - Wasn't PK just like the biggest teddy bear?? He had that deep voice and he was oh so nice!!!

Joann, sorry to miss the chance to say hello. I saw James at a distance but didn't get close enough either. We are going out of town this weekend so I doubt we will be there this Friday. Who would have thought that 30 years later we would be able to sit at Yorktown beach and drink legally?

Cathy! And I always thought you were so sweet and innocent! lolol

Greetings to all the gang!

It's great to read that things are moving along. My only 2 cents worth for Friday is that 2 years ago, I attended a reception at the freight shed. It worked out great for the event, except for parking. I've been gone too long to know anything about the Shaggin' location. I think parking anywhere in that area on Friday night is difficult, if you don't arrive early.

Perhaps YC's finest brown and tan can work out some reserved parking? (just a thought, Jimmy)

Still loving the forum!

Karen - I'm still sweet and innocent :)

Ken - If you came to Yorktown waterfront you would easily find where the shagging is happening. The crowd is incredible. Isabel did the waterfront a favor because the improvements were awesome. However, we can do without the hurricane experience.

Putting in my 2 cents. In reference to the parking at yorktown, if you get there early (5:00-6:00pm) you can usually find parking in the new parking garage. But if that's full you can go up Ballard St. and park in the old courthouse/Sheriff's office parking lot,(up behind the Duke) it's a very short walk back down the hill. Just trying to help.

Hi Cathy,

Have a great trip! Hopefully, I might see you guys back down there in August? I agree with you about Yorktown. I hated to see the old Nick's go, even though the food & service had gone way down, and I was surely skeptical about the proposed changes at the time - - but the county, planners & Yorktown ended up creating a wonderful thing! I'm so glad we still live close enough to enjoy it as often as we do.

Agree with Doug, if you go early enough, you can still find some relatively close parking. Although, if the crowds keep growing, they may have to start parking people on the battlefields & shuttle them in. It's definitely popular . . .

Now, now...come on, be easy,,,,

everyone is probably at home, drooling over the coverage of the messiah as he toured Europe on his gilded white Unicorn.,.....

or, they are on vacation, whipped by gas prices, or clinically depressed to realize most of summer is gone, and now we gotta fund school clothes :-o

Hey Gene Laughery, I was checking out your profile and noticed your Street Glide (along with your other toys). Nice bike! Do you know of any other classmates that ride? I was thinking if there were, we could all get together for a ride sometime soon.

Gina,

I missed that, but did see the Jib Jab...

I've said it before, this country may need 4 years of liberal leadership to get them to see the light....

Like I say, the only change we're gonna git is whats left of our dollars....
