Comments:

I attended Cleveland State University on a baseball scholarship. Graduated March 1973 with a degree in Physical Education wanting to teach and coach. Started working for the Boy Scouts of America in May of 1973.

Met Mary Jo on May 7, 1971 at Cleveland State University. That is a very interesting story for another time. We were engaged on June 5, 1971 and married December 11, 1971.

Here we are 50 years later with 2 adult daughters, 7 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Our daughters are as different as night and day. Each grandchild has their own unique personality as well. Can’t wait to see how the “greats” grow.

I had a tremendous career with the Boy Scouts. I retired January 1, 2013

We have lived in Olmstead Falls, Maumee, Lakewood, and Berea, Ohio, Flower Mound, Texas, Wausau and Appleton, Wisconsin, Plainfield, Illinois, Grand Rapids and Milford, Michigan. Chandler, AZ and now Parker, CO.

We have been active in the United Methodist Church including helping to start churches in Flower Mound, TX and Kentwood, MI. And now we enjoy non denomination churches.

The last few years I have enjoyed coaching youth football for my CO grandsons and serving as Chair of the Southeast Christian School board.

We moved in September of 2020 from the country home we built on almost 2 acres in 2012 to a city lot closer to doctors, dentists, etc. We have enjoyed being in a neighborhood again. I have a beautiful backyard with a lot of flowers to keep me busy!

Some updating and remodeling. It was a challenge during Covid.

School Story:

Playing on the baseball team was a highlight from high school.

Winning the Regional Finals vs. Shaker and then losing (unfortunately) in the Sectionals in a rain shortened game are lasting memories. Of course beating Midpark (and Ken Kravec) was a highlight.

What great baseball friendships! Dale Lubinski, Pete Sedello, Jim Gossett, Dale Searles, Bill Shannon, Tom Flaherty, Tom McLaughlin and Logan Donathan among others. Apologies to those team members I didn't mention. Coaches Virgil Stroya and Don Linn were great.

My favorite teachers were Mr. Gorsline, Miss Thompson and Mrs. Kerr. Thompson and Kerr sparked my interest in writing and journalism. I used the skills they taught me in my BSA career.

Oldest CO grandson reports in June to South Dakota State University on a football scholarship. Very proud of Bryce Johnson!

So many classmates had a positive influence on my life. It is great catching up with them on this site and on Facebook.

Todd McFarren was a great classmate. Athletic, intelligent, humble and friendly define him very well. I wasn't surprised to learn of his military service and his commitment to helping others in so many ways. I admired Todd at Berea High School and in life. Condolences to the family he loved and of which he was always proud. It's comforting that Todd is at peace and united with our Lord. God bless!

High school seems so long ago! Maybe that’s because it is!

Just wanted to say happy birthday! Birthdays are more important with each passing year! I hope you have a great one!

One of my favorite messages from Jumangi the next level:

Getting old is a gift. I forget that sometimes.

Eddie was always complaining about getting old. His body didn’t work the same way. His friends moved on. And he felt alone.

After his time in Jumanji, Eddie came out with a new perspective. Getting old wasn’t so bad. Getting old could be seen as a gift.

The sad fact of this world is that we all get old. We age and our bodies and minds change. We can see this like Eddie did at the beginning of Jumanji or we can see getting old as Eddie did at the end of Jumanji.

Stop thinking of getting old as a curse. It is a gift!

Getting old doesn’t have to be a curse. Getting old can be a gift.

You will have more experience and wisdom than you did when you were younger. You can contribute more to those around you.

See getting old(er) as a gift.

God bless!

Rick

Happy Birthday Carol! Another Grandson is getting his driver’s license this week. He finished his driver training course. It reminded me again of us taking that course together through BHS!

Have a great birthday!
