Tom, I remember the squeezing/passing out fad. I remember we use to do it at school too. I especially remember Debbie Odell staying all night one night and us doing it and she was more than I could hold (with the dead weight) and she cracked her head open. That may have been the end to that fun for me, I remember i was scared to death. You have an incredible memory Tom. I can't really remember you coming to my house and waiting for your Mother. Did I fix you dinner? LOL It's strange how the brain works and the things you remember.I can even remember lines from a play we did probably in 8th grade, but i couldn't tell you what i had for lunch yesterday. (go figure)
I'm sure Debbie should have some cool pictures to post and stories too. Someone call her.
I called jeff Lynns Dad yesterday to get his phone number. He's in Bridgeport, Illinois and is a Probation Officer(I think) Dick said don't try to call him because he and his wife and his brother Jack and his wife Rita West went to Las Vegas. Hope they weren't planning to visit me.

Rich, The new picture added on the home page of that little girl is so so cute, whomever it may be.

Leslie, After football practice, I would come to your house and we would sit in your front yard, along the highway, and do BF/GF things, as I waited for my mom.

Tom, OK now I'm really interested in knowing the scoop on Michael George Summers!!! Hope you enjoyed some of the E-Mails

Passing out games? My goodness! I must have lived a sheltered life.

So, where did kids from the south end of Bicknell go to school? South Side Grade School, of course. They were the South Side Pirates, big city rivals to us West Side Blue Jackets! All who went to Bicknell High School/Central Grade School were the Bulldogs.

Nothing bad on Summy. Just the usual things that hell-raising / beer drinking guys do. Sometimes, it is hard to believe we survived our younger days. Summy reads this forum on a regular basis, but I can't get him to comment. Summytime.....speak up !

Hey everyone! I just caught up on the past month's postings...Hope everyone had a great Christmas! Missed Judy's birthday...Happy B-day, Judy! It was great hearing from you, Leslie! And I heard from Pam Langferman...Yeah! We roomed together our last two years at Purdue, but lost track of each other...my fault, probably. Hey Rich, you should be happy with the Panthers' win today...they are calling them the Cardiac Cats after that win...I enjoyed all the stories and descriptions of Freelandville, also, but like Jean, I didn't have all those memories of town, and my memories started at the end of fifth grade...I DO remember the passing out past-time of junior high...I never tried it; it was too scary watching so many passing out, and coming to with lumps and bruises....

Tom, you are thinking too much like an airline executive. They would probably like for us to stay out at the airport all the time, but our contracts call for us to stay downtown in most cities where the layover is 16 hours or more. This keeps us from going crazy on a long break. It gives us something to do downtown.

I don't remember the passing out at all. I thougth I had a pretty good memory.

I have sent Jeff Lynn some postcards and tried to get him to sign on. Leslie, if you talk to Jeff, please try to get him to chime in.

Kathy, I was happy about the game. My heart can't take many more games like those.

OK Tom, if your memory is so good, who did I kiss in first grade when you all held the blanket around a certain girl and myself???

Kathy Diane Dunn (Steele)

I am thinking like Luellen. I don't remember any "passing out" games. I can't believe that some of you kids from Freelandville didn't let us from Bicknell play! LOL

Tom Held

Passing out game: The passing out game was in retrospect, a very dangerous game. Not sure it should even be called a game. Dick: As to who you kissed in the 1st grade.....I don't recall you smooching with anyone, but I will guess Jean Ann Walker (???) When you have a layover, do you have to share a room with someone else ? Also, I was thinking you should have a more colorful e-mail address. "rfinke" just ain't gettin it done !! SUGGESTIONS: 1. "flyboy" 2. "skyking" 3. "skypilot" Maybe everyone here should vote on your new e-mail address ?

Tom, I am in Seattle and ticked that I have to pay $9.95 for this internet connection. Most hotels are free.

Too much trouble to change the rfinke address.

It was Debbie O'dell.

Kathy D. I am still wondering what you were doing in that photo????

Okay, Rich, after finally seeing the picture that Leslie submitted to the website, I definitely know what Rita and Cheryl are doing, but I have NO idea what I am doing. I don't remember that picture at all. Perhaps I was telling Leslie in a NICE way that I did not want my picture taken???

Thanks, Kathy, Does anyone know where Rita is today? I sent Pam an invitation to join in on our site. I know Cheryl lives in Bicknell.

Rich I have no idea where Rita is today. I know her brother Dennis is in Linton, but I haven't talked with him for a long time.

DICK Checked out photos of the new Airbus A-321 and A-380 at your profile page. Orville & Wilbur would be proud ! Also, I wanted to know if you could get me the e-mail address of US Airways CEO ? In these tough economic times, I wanted to discuss some cost-cutting measures with him that I feel could improve his company's bottom line. So, Dick........instead of laying-over at expensive, luxury hotels, how would you feel about a sleeping bag in the broom closet at the airport ? STEVE How do I remember all those things? Well, first of all, my friends tell me I live in the past, way too much. Can't help it...it interests me. Especially enjoy local history. I don't know if you ever checked-out the Freelandville Dutchmen Website that I created several years back, but it was largely devoted to the history of Freelandville / Widner Township. Much of the history came from interviewing older citizens of our community, but late 1950's to current history came from my memory. In short, it comes easy for me because it is something I enjoy. Sadly, Cindy says my wardrobe reflects my love for the past !! Even my taste in the opposite sex is based in the past. 1980's type girls do it for me !! Pat Benatar...yeah that's what I'm talkin' about. To Everyone: Believe it or not, for the first time in many years, this old guy stayed awake until midnight last night. So proud of myself ! * Watched Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve......(Dick really needs to hang it up !!) *Watched "Captain Robby Knievel" jump the volcano at The Mirage at midnight. (Hmmmmmmmmmm....rather disappointing. I have watched Supercross riders jump, lap after lap, farther than that at the Indy Supercross/RCA Dome !!!) HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to Jeff Lynn who just created a profile. Jeff is our first Illinois resident to sign on. Jeff, if you can get your cousin Jim, to sign on, it would be great.

Happy New Years one and all. Rich i hear ya about the sounds on Toms profile, I listen to it all the time.

Glad to see Jeff finally made it on. So Jeff how much of my money did you win in Las Vegas? Lu and I were having a conversation the other day about the our house on 6th street. Do you remember us having an "Outhouse"? I figured you and Dennis probably did. I remember Halloween was a brutal time for that outhouse. Lu and I laughed over my Mother potty training 3 little girls in the Indiana snow. Any chance you know where Dennis Pinnick is?

01/01/09 06:52 PM #471

Tom Held

LESLIE Dennis is in Washington. He is manager at Dollar Store in Lawrenceville, IL. I tried to get him to sign in at Dick's original NKHS 1970 website. Not interested. I think he is still traumatized by the crushing defeat by the Dutchman juggernaut in the semi finals of the Knox County Jr. High basketball tournament in 1966. Coach Roche credited my defensive effort on Bicknell leading scorer Pinnick that night with winning the game. I have never let Dennis forget it. He worked with me at RC Cola for a few years.

Welcome Jeff Lynn!

Hope everyone's new year is off to a great start! Did anyone in this area go to see the "watermelon drop" in Vincennes last night? We drove by about 9:30pm and it was a pretty realistic looking - albeit HUGE - watermelon. Later we watched live via internet. I hear there was a huge crowd despite the frigid temp.

Leslie: Before I came along, my parents' house had what Mom called "3 rooms and a path". THANKFULLY they were able to remodel. lol My grandparents' home had an outhouse, so I did spend some time in the creepy dark.

Tom Held

Yes, I too know the misery of using the outhouse. I estimate we must have gotten indoor facilities about 1956, when my Dad got a good job at Reynolds Spring (Johnson Controls) and Mom went to work full time at Commercial Credit Corp. Thank the Good Lord for hard working parents. I'm sure all of us knew kids who were not so lucky.

Ruth Hagemeier (Wesner)

Happy Belated Birthday to Cathy.

Happy New Year everyone. May the new year make us all wealthy!! Time sure flys by, who would have thought in 1970 we would even think about the year 2009. Or how old we would be.

Lu, before we moved to Happy Street in late 1960, our family of 7 (2 of which were babies) lived in a 3 room house, minus the bathroom. The lovely outhouse wasn't just outside the back door either. With that many in one house you would think we would have had a two seater--only one!! The outhouses could be a dangerous place. My grandparents had a two seater, one time when my sister & I went together she got stung many times on the hiney by some angry bumble bees. We both screamed all the way back to the house. Remember the baths taken in a wash tub behind the coal or wood stove? Our bathtub was in the kitchen.
