STEVE: I had almost forgotten Mrs. Sisco. She got married during the school year.....wasn't her maiden name Miss Sloss, or am I confusing her with another teacher ? I recall that she had a problem with one of her arms/hands.....her arm would suddenly go numb, leaving it usless. Does anyone remember that ? Anyhow, she was HOT !

Another teacher was Miss Jordan, typing teacher. She was, uh, uh, uh.....not so hot....he he he !

In grade school, it was our 4th grade teacher, Susan Sutherland (my first school boy crush). Dick, do you remember her ?

ROARK: Dick asked Moon to tell us about his "mysterious illness" that kept him from playing in the Dutchman vs. Blue Jay basketball game in March 1966. So far, no comment from Moon. This leaves us to wonder if the Blue Jays knew they had no chance for a victory over Freelandville and had Moon "sit out" as an "excuse" for their enevitable defeat.

DICK: Was Mike home when Vee passed away this morning ?

Lottsa memories of Troop 126 meetings out at Vee & Shorty's house. I still have my Cub Scout uniform and a bird feeder that Vee helped me make as a scout project.

I spent the night at Mike's house several times in grade school. Vee was the type of person that went out of her way to make me feel welcome and make sure I had a good time. The Widner community will miss her.

Tom, I am not sure if Mike was home or not. I know he had been traveling back and forth between NC and IN. As regards to Miss Sutherland, I remember most of the class attended her wedding in Vincennes.

I was heartbroken when she got married !

My grandpa Josh was the janitor at the school at that time. I would stay after school and help him clean the classrooms. I could hardly wait to get to Miss Sutherland's room, as she would be there grading papers, etc.

At the time I probably wasn't sure what I was feeling, but I'm sure I liked it !!!!!

I am so sorry to hear about Mike's mom; I didn't know her that well but I always heard good things about her.

Hey Danny! I was hoping to get a response from you! And I think I was right about you gently teasing Mrs. Begeman..the rest of us would want to, or at least I would, so that she would be diverted even a few minutes from conjugating verbs, reading Latin paragraphs, etc. to lecture us on the importance of learning Latin for medicine, law, etc. But I never had the nerve to bring it up...left that up to you, at least that's how I remember it!

Rich, I thought about Mr. Bubenzer after I signed off and wished I had included him because he WAS the best for Algebra...

OK guys, Miss Sisco WAS HOT...even the girls knew it..frankly, I was in awe..I'd never had a teacher of either sex so good looking...and she was a great geometry teacher..

Now I have to admit that I signed up for Mrs. Lawlis's senior math class and when I went to her class that first day of classes, I took a seat in the back row..I remember she looked at me with that little grin of hers and said "I think Kathy should sit in the front row this year." I fumed all through that class, went home that afternoon and had one of my first AHA moments...I decided life was too short to sit on the front row of that math class..I went to school the next day and basically told the powers that be that I could be editor of the paper or take that math class but not both...can't believe I had the nerve to do that...never regretted that move because when I got to Purdue, they placed the students according to how much math they had taken along with SATs and I would have been placed in a much harder math than I needed, and the one I took was hard enough!

Now you guys/gals have me reminiscing. I'll never forget in Geography class when Mr. Lutterbach walked in late and caught Buzzard (Joe Robbins) spinning the world globe at the back of the room. I can still hear Mr. Lutterbach saying with a booming voice (and trying not to laugh) "Robbins, apologize to that globe"!!! Finally after Joe was able to spit out "I'm sorry globe", we all about cracked up including Mr. Lutterbach!!!
Another was in Mrs. Lawlis class when she asked Buzzard (sorry to pick on you Joe)to put a problem up on the overhead. Joe turned it every way but the correct way. If you remember Mrs. Lawlis had kind of a pooch tummy which she rested her open book on. She was gut laughing so hard (as were the rest of us) that the book was bouncing like a super ball!!!

Judy, Thanks for the great picture of you and Mike in Nova Scotia. You all know I like pictures. I am still encouraging all of you to post as many pictures as you like on your home page. I sure would like to see some of Pat on the power lines, or Danny and the gang at the power plant, or Don Boyles racing his car, or pictures of your families, etc. I'll be in IN in a few days with my camera. Please watch out for the Paparazzi!

Rich - I guess you will be in Indy for the 500! I wish you great weather and hope we have an exciting race. I have to admit, it is enjoyable to be in Indy during race month (and the other 11 months of the year).
Also, thank you for all of the time you have spent on the website. I have rec'd two emails from classmates that I haven't had any contact with since graduation.

Judy, I won't be at INDY this year. I sell the tickets on Ebay and my greed over powers my desire to see the race. I do love INDY though. I had a whirlwind trip to Indiana with my son over the weekend. It was fast, but I did catch up on some old friends. I was able to attend Vee Land's funeral on Saturday. Even though Mike lives within 30 miles of me, we had not seen each other in several years. It was good seeing Mike even though it was under sad conditions. Also at the funeral was Mike Wolfe. I had not seen Mike since graduation. He has a beard so he had to tell me who he was, but once he told me it was like 1970 again. Mike had been to Henry Bobe's pizza place in Sullivan the night before and had seen Henry and Nancy Hagemeier. They are both fine. I also saw Danny Roark on Sunday and his fine looking family. I ran across Kathy Curry's sister at McDonald's in Bicknell. I told her to tell Kathy about our site so hopefully she will sign on. She lives in Scotland, IN. Mike also told me that one of our classmates has Alzheimers. I won't mention the person, but it makes me realize we are getting to the age where strange things start to happen. I wish the best for this person in our class going through this terrible disease. Tom, I am sorry I did not see you. Hopefully next time.

Dick: I'm hard to catch ! Work, work, work !

I wanted to go to Vee's showing on Friday, but got home from work too late.
I worked all day Saturday, then ran out to Bethel Cemetery to wish my Mom a happy Mother's Day on Saturday evening. Drove by Grump's on the way home, but nobody was "out and about", so I went home. As usual, we had the two youngest grandkids (1 year & 2 years) on Saturday/ Sunday, so I really needed to get home and help Cindy control the "twin tornados". LOL !!!

Worked again on Sunday morning, then more baby-sitting. Went to bed early Sunday evening.

Work, baby-sit and sleep. Not a real exciting life, is it ? Ha Ha !
------------------------------------------------------
With the IRL/ Champ Car unification, the 500 should be good this year. Have not been there since 1996, the first year of the "split". Got really turned-off on it that year, with the small crowds and lack of excitement. Kenny and Francie / Doc & Pat used to park their motorhomes next to each other along Georgetown Road, across from the track. Great place to hangout and party. Sadly, we are all getting old and don't have much "party" left in us.

1972 race....Cold beer and "Snake Pit" in Turn 1

2008 race....Iced tea in front of the TV

My God, what has happened to me !!!!!

I remember Dan R., Nancy H., Karen L., Steve S., Alisa M., Brenda K., Bonabeth D., Bill S. Don D., and me being in that 1st grade class; and our teacher was Katherine Andis, from Sandborn. I know there were some more kids in our class, but my memory fades.

I was really, really sick with the flu that night of the tournament. I still regret not being able to play in that game. The Bluejays were pretty tough that year, and I am not so sure that the outcome of that game would have been the same if...

MOON:

Have not run into you in a good while. I don't service the Linton area any longer. I'm in Vincennes most of the time now days.

I would have to agree with you about the infamous 1966 NK Jr. High tournament game. Had you not been ill, the outcome would probably have been different. We would not have beaten you so badly !!! (He He He)....just kidding.

You guys did have a good team. I believe Dick mentioned that the Blue Jays beat us earlier that season at Freelandville.

Changing subjects, do you still remember when you, S. Posey and myself went to the Pirates' try-out camp in the early 70's ? The Pirates must have got a good laugh out of us !!

I posted some new pictures on the "Memory Lane" page I found in some old clippings. One is of the tragic death of Sheila Porter and her mother and gradmother. I will never forget that day. I was plowing a field for Laverne Telligman between Oaktown and Freelandville. I saw Terry Mason drive by in a car and could tell that she was sad and crying. When I got home I found out about the accident. I cannot imagine what Sheila's father and sister went through. I have always wondered what happened to Mr. Porter and his daughter.

LU MILLER:
Where was the picture on your profile page taken ? I'm not to bright, but it doesn't appear to be in Knox County !!

Derek & Jenna were married April 26 near our resort at Destin, Florida (in the panhandle). I say near, because the resort wanted $1500 to use "their" beach and a free public beach was right next to it. There's a no-brainer! It was a perfect time to be there - no crowds, great weather, off season rates....

Lu, Great picture. I enjoyed seeing your family. I have not seen Jeff in probably 40 years. That was a great place for a wedding. I hope your picture inspires others to send some of their families. That is what this web site is all about.

Lu: that was a great picture! What a great location for a wedding.

By the way, Edwardsport made the CBS evening news tonite...I'm so sorry to see all that flooding...and we're into our second year of dry weather in the Carolinas....

06/11/08 12:24 AM #71

Luellen Byrer (Miller)

I wish Edwardsport had made the news for something more pleasant. This flood was to bring Gov. Daniels to E'port - haven't heard if he really came. From our house on 159 north of Bicknell, we can see water along Miller Road - water backed up from the White River. It has closed 67 north of Bicknell, 50 between Wheatland and Washington, along with others that usually are closed during flooding. Bicknell's water supply was affected, so Freelandville Water hooked up hoses from a fire hydrant across the road from us extending to a hydrant at the edge of Bicknell city limits. I went to the G.R. Clark Memorial at Vincennes after work today (6/10/08) and the water was nearly over the wall behind the statue of Francis Vigo.

Bill, Thanks for signing on. You are the 1st of the last 36 cards I have sent out to respond. I enjoyed reading about your life, family, and hobbies. I would love to have a picture of your show cars. Send me one and I will post it on the site or you can do it yourself. Once again, good to hear from you. I hope you have not flooded out in Westphalia.

LU:

Derek's wedding photo on the beach at Destin, Fla, reminded me of when Jeff & Randy, Bill Boy, Pat Grabbe and myself went to Florida to the NHRA Gatornationals in 1974. We went to the Gulf Coast on Saturday of that weekend...I believe at Cedar Key (is that right, Grab ?).
Little did Jeff know that he would return to the Gulf 34 years later for his son's wedding.

06/15/08 09:14 AM #74

Jean Ann Miller (Schroeder)

Can you believe that Bill & I actually went to Cedar Key, Fl in Dec 07? I don't think it has changed since you were there in 74. The air strip is still there along with "Bubba" the town cop. It is still a town with the old Florida flair. If your in the mood for a quick drive thru, fast food meal, don't go to Cedar Key!!! But if you want a quiet, laid back vacation for a few days and enjoy fishing, give it a try.
I talked with Judy Stout Anderson last night at CowTown in Carlisle. I haven't talked with her for several years....
