Yes, alphabetical order makes sense.

I'd say there is a good possibility that Jackie Foschaar is "Hot Legs".

Who is sitting on my left.....Theresia Jones ?

Man ya just had to go there didn't ya!!!!!!!!!!! I was driving myself crazy prior to that trying to figure out who that was. The best guess I could come up with was Donnie Rickard. So in order not to loose any more friends or to piss anyone off, I don't think i'll make anymore quesses thank you.

Thanks for changing the homepage so that the birthdays are on top.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY today to Connie!
No guesses on the class photo, except don't think the one is Jackie.
Does the baby on the homepage belong to somebody we know?

Tom, we moved to Happy Street Dec. 1960 and did buy the house from Mrs. Schroeder. Don't know if dad is related but there is a Schroeder-Sander tree book and we are connected to the Sanders in the book. I will have to check on the Schroeder part. I remember as a kid going to Josh & Ester's house and sitting on the porch to visit. We were the only kids on the street when we moved so the 'older' generation were are friends. Isn't there a picture somewhere of all the kids on the street when the crew from WTHI did the interest story?? I will have to see if Janet & Beth remember. On our last trip to Nashville, IN we drove up to Beanblossom. Cannot imagine where all the people park and stay during the festival. RUTH, The festival is held on Bill Monroe's farm, which is located on the right side of the highway in Beanblossom. Parking for "non-campers" is in the large feild next to the highway. Motorhomes & tent campers follow the many roads that cover the farm and set up camp/park whereever they can find a spot in the woods. The main stage is built down in a natural ampi-theatre area back in the woods, in the center of the farm. After the main show ends about midnight, everyone goes "campfirin'".....that's what they call it. Campfirin' is walking back through the woods and checking out the many, many jam sessions that go on till the wee hours of the morning. Many "family bands" will follow the "festival circut". There are some extremely talented pickers that you run across. I have a photo somewhere of me with Bill Monroe...taken back in late 70's. We even took Mouse Telligman with us one year. Instead of a lawn chair, "The Rat" brought a folding steel chair to sit on all weekend !! I got a bunch of hilarious stories from Beanblossom ! If I get time, I'll post a story or two here. Dick seems to enjoy my stories ! Sunday morning is gospel music on stage. I know the "Happy Street Kids" photo you are talking about. If I recall correctly, it was taken on my front porch steps. I will look for it and post it if I find it. Ruth, I did some checking on Henry "Squire" Schroeder. His mother's maiden name was Sanders. Tom...if you go back far enough in the family tree you will probably find we are all related in Freelandville to one another. :) Dick, Yes, you are correct. I have a family tree chart that traces all sides of my family back to Germany. My great, great, great grandfather Hans Held was born in 1792. He never came to America, but his son, my great, great grandfather Johann Held (b.1816), came here in 1849. All Helds in Widner Township and surrounding areas descended from Johann. I have a bunch of German family bloodlines mixed in with my Held blood !!

Just read on the Greene County Daily World that our classmate Anna England Thompson Bilyeu's brother, Bobby England, 59 of Sandborn has passed away. Some of you may want to send your condolences through our website. She lives in Linton, but I don't have her address.

Please excuse my repeated profile updates over the past week or so. I have been expirmenting with posting a slideshow like the one Dick has on the homepage. One problem though.....I am having trouble getting it to work. So.....be patient with me and overlook my stupidity.

Leslie Dick gave me some advise on what I was doing wrong, but have been busy with other things today. If I can get it to work, maybe I could show you how to do it and we could finally see your sunburn picture ?

I have about 5 minutes of battery left before my computer dies. I am using my neighbor's internet connection so I may be done for awhile. We have no power due to the snow storm and may not have power for awhile. I'll be back on when the power is restored.

Kathy, How did you make out in the snow? I lost a tree and my gazebo on the deck due to the heavy wet snow. I'll post some pictures when the power comes back on.

You all feel sorry for me tonight in teen temperatures with no heat and power.

Tom, is the distinguished gentleman on the home page related to you???

And where do you come up with all these great pictures?? I remember visiting Uncle John's Kiddie Land. Who can tell us where it was located?

Took the color test, 100% on the Second Try. (don't ask about the first try.) And whoever put it there, remember that some of us are not yet 57 years old. Oh, maybe I wasn't supposed to take the test yet. Sorry.

Rich, just how bad was the storm? I didn't watch much news today. Hope you are keeping warm!

Lu, Uncle John Kiddie Land. Wow One of my favorite childhood memories. Can't really remember names of streets but it was as you came into town from Bicknell I think there's a Wal mart in that shopping center now and did there use to be or maybe still is a restaurant right on that corner. If you turned left at that light, you'd be heading toward Rainbow Beach. Sometimes on Saturday after Pam, Terri and I finished dance classes at Blair & Bowman in Vincennes, mom would let us stop at Uncle johns and we got to pick 3 rides. I can still remember I usually picked roller coaster, roller coaster, roller coaster. Thanks for the memory Lu.

Lu, That is one of our classmate's grandfather.....which one ? Where do I come up with the pictures ? Books, books, books.....I have all kinds of books dealing with local history. I should have been a history teacher !! Uncle John's Kiddieland, owned by the Johnson family, was where the Vincennes Plaza is currently located......on North 6th street. It was situated more towards the back of the property.....closer to the RR tracks / creek than to 6th street. If you recall, the ground was covered in sawdust. I believe the merry go round was at the center of the park. Rides that I recall are merry go round, rollercoaster, minature train, tractor (IH Cub Cadet) rides, boat ride, ferris wheel....probably more. I recall reading that they opened in 1953. Not sure what year they closed......1963 seems to "ring a bell". When was the plaza built....? I had a traumatic childhood event happen at Uncle John's. I was about to board the minature train ride, when the operator told me I was too big to ride !! Even if that was when they closed in '63, how could I have been too big ? I would only have been 11. I have been forever marred by that event of childhood years !! Maybe I should seek help on the Dr. Phil Show !

Leslie and Lu,
Talk about dejavu! I was talking with someone the other day about Uncle John's Kiddieland. I remember it being where the Vincennes Plaza is now. Wishing I had a picture of it to see if it was like I remember. I thought it was gravel, and I remember riding the train and the boats. WOW where has time gone? I CAN'T be that old! LOL I'm glad I grew up in the era that I did though. I really don't think kids nowadays will have as fond of memories that we have.

I now have power again. I cannot believe how spoiled I am. No power for 48 hours and you would think the world had come to an end. Anyway, I am glad for the power being back on. I know the snow storm wasn't much for the Indiana folks, but it was a big deal here in Charlotte. I put some pictures of the snow on the site, under "Snow Storm" if you are interested. The good news about snow here in the Carolinas is that it doesn't hang around too long.

Tom, I will recuse myself on the picture. I loved the pictures you posted.

Rich,
Sorry you had to go through the storm and power outage. BUT....your pictures are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Lu, I won't tell you how bad I did on the color test.

Dick, Just got home.....no snow here today, but it was plenty cold early this morning. ------------------------------------------------- Everyone, I take it from everyone's reaction, you enjoyed my Uncle John's Kiddieland photos ? Someone told me today that Kiddieland closed in '64 and Plaza was opened in '68. I'm not real sure about those dates....doesn't seem correct to me. I have a bunch of old photos of the Vincennes area, but since they don't pertain to the NK area.....not sure if you guys would be interested. (Let me know) Naturally, I have lottsa old Freelandville pics, if you wanna seem them ? Many photos were left to me by my mother. She was on the Bethel Church Historical Committee. After her death, Ray Hall invited me to take her place on the committee. I would have loved to, but I have no time. I barely have time to login here for a few minutes each night when I get home. Can't believe nobody recognizes the photo of the gentleman on the homepage ! I thought this would be easy. To me, he looks just like his grandson. -------------------------------------------------- On to a different subject: Dick, Cindy wants to know if you have ever encountered a UFO while in the air and if you have "inside info" on UFOs via USAF connections ? Her uncle was in the USAF from '57 to '87, but cannot talk about anything he was involved in during those years.....especially any knowledge he has of UFOs.

Tinkster
The grandfather in question looks a lot like the grandfather of a Fighting Dutch Falcon pilot.

Rich, the snow photos are wonderful! We don't have too many power outages in this area. The last extended outage I remember was back in '78 I think. We had a woodstove in the living room at the time. We closed off part of the house, slept on the sofa bed (with our only child at the time, Jared), even cooked some on top of that stove.

Tom, I say yes to posting more photos even if they are in Vincennes. Making a trip to the big city was a treat back in our early years.

Rich, who were your cousins in the family photo? I see Elaine, Cindy, Linda, Nancy?, who else?

03/04/09 09:40 AM #820

Richard Finke

Lu, In the back row are Cheryl, Nancy, Gene, and Marilee. Cheryl and Gene are Oscar's children and Marilee is Paul Finke's oldest daughter. Marilee lives in Linton and is a nurse. Her name is Duzan. Cheryl lives in Salt Lake and Gene lives in Kansas City.

Tom, I have never had a UFO encounter, except for the time I tried some bootleg moonshine in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War. Only kidding about the UFO. The moonshine was true. I never had any knowledge of anything in the Air Force. I believe something is out there, but I don't believe the Air Force could keep a secret for over 60 years without someone spilling the beans with regard to Roswell. Still, everytime I fly over Roswell at night, I keep my eyes peeled, just in case.

I am stumped on Leslie's excuse slip. The only one I think that I might know is #6 JW John Walker.

03/04/09 12:11 PM #822

Kathy Diane Dunn (Steele)

Perhaps #1 on Leslie's excuse slip is Ken Lutterbach?

03/04/09 12:18 PM #823

Kathy Diane Dunn (Steele)

#2 Mr. Land (Christy's dad) George?
#3 Joe Robinson?

03/04/09 12:37 PM #824

Kathy Diane Dunn (Steele)

Okay this is my final answer. Instead of Joe Robinson, how about James Bubenzer?

Now you all know what I do on my lunch hour!
