Rich, Hey! That wasn't an attractive description of SF...it does give me gratitude for where I live...my biggest gripes are the coon hunting at about 2:30am..and the illegal headlighting of deer done in my driveway..

Do I see "Retired" by Danny Roark's name in his profile. If it was there before I did not notice it. Anyway, congratulations Danny on your retirement. What are you going to do with all of your time?

07/03/08 07:12 AM #102

Dan Roark

Dick - I have retired from Duke Energy as of July 1. Will be playing more golf and working at least part time.

Dick
In answer to your question of Dan's retirement, loafing
is the short answer.
Congratulations Dan

Congratulations, Danny! I thought only people that were old were able to retire!!!! Oh......We are all the same age aren't we?????

I feel the love from you all - except for you Grab. Hey Jean Ann I'm sure that I'm much older than you !!!!

DICK:

Isn't there a mandatory retirement age for "tired, worn-out, old-geezer" airline pilots ?

Also, I posted a photo of Dennis Pinnick and Becky Perry's grandson at my profile page. He is a real character !!

Jean Ann Miller (Schroeder)

Danny,

You may be a few months older... but at this age who cares!!!!

Hey Dick,

Speaking of age...aren't you a year older as of July 3rd???? I talked with Joe Robbins on the 4th at a Tractor Pull and he said it was your birhtday on the 3rd. Happy Belated Birthday! I told Joe he should sign on & he said he did not have a computer. Too Bad!!

Tom, They just changed the retirement age for old geezers like me to 65 from 60 so as of today I have 9 more years to work. I'll be lucky to find my way to the airport by then, much less fly the plane.

Jean, I recieved a birthday card from Joe Robbins with a nice letter. He told me about not being into computers, but maybe he can read this post at work. He was almost right about my birthday. It is today the 5th and not the 3rd. Joe sent me a great card. I will post it on "Memory Lane" for you to read what it said. The words are very true, at least for me.

Tom, Also thanks for the picture of Dennis and Becky's grandson. Your grandson looks good in that Oaktown Oaks uniform.

Doesn't Joe have a birthday this month, also ? Or was it last month ? Jean....if I recall, your's is in November...along with Pat Grabbe. Correct ?

.. Dick, I really hate to have to finally admit it, but our hometown is not what it once was. Everything from youth summer athletic programs to crime in our streets.
Oaktown always has had an excellent baseball program and still does. Hunter improved so much, thanks to a tireless coaching effort this summer.

.. The KC deputies were all over town last night due to a rash of break-ins this week. Stole Howard Helderman's truck and broke into my neighbor Kent Brocksmith's truck. And all this right here on supposedly safe and tranquil Happy Street ! Our town has become destination #1 for drug dealers and dopers. I assume because of no permanent law enforcement here. A safe-haven of sorts.

.. When I first purchased my house in the mid 1970's, I honestly did not lock my doors. Sickening what has happened.

Tom, Maybe we should all move to Montanna and get away from it all. I do believe Joe's birthday was the last week of June. Ruth Hagemeier's is July 23rd. I remember Rachel Varn's was April 28th or so. Did Dennis and Becky just have the one child and was that a boy or girl. I take it their child lives in Oaktown. Also, why aren't you up at Grumpy's this evening? It is Saturday night.

07/05/08 07:38 PM #113

Tom Held

Too tired to get over to Grump's. Cindy said someone in a black pick up pulled in the drive and came to the door while I was napping ( I know, that's what old men do) this afternoon. Probably Summy wanting me to come over to Grump's.

Dennis & Becky had girl Cassie. She lives in "Oakieville". She married and divorced
one of the Williams (Ted) boys from F-ville. Mike Summers married Becky and pretty much raised Cassie. He is still a big part of her and Andy's lives.

Mike Summers and Becky had a boy ....Bo Summers.

The runner in the pic is Joe Robbins. It appears as the pictures progress down the page, he is huffing and puffing a bit more. I could probably out run him.....that is, if I kept tripping him every time he caught up to me !

Rachel's is April 28...same as Leslie Jones. Do you remember in 8th grade they had a co- birthday party at Leslie's house ?

07/05/08 07:52 PM #114

Richard Finke

I remember the birthday party at Leslie's, but I did not remember it was also Rachel's party. Also, did you ever year from Rachel? Try to get her to sign on if you can.

Luellen Byrer (Miller)

I think Dennis & Becky also have a son, Drew but I'm not sure where he lives or anything else about him.

In case anyone is interested, my birthday will be 08/08/08 this year. Does anyone else have a similar circumstance? For my 10th birthday I got a Barbie doll and a baby sister. Yes, Missy (Maddox) and I share an August 8 birthday.

By the way, Rich, Jeff and your mother share January 31 as a birthday and she is so faithful to send him a card.

.................

Does anyone eat at the Old Thyme Diner in downtown Vincennes? The owners, Mike & Bev Haddix are our son Nathaniel's in-laws. Mike passed away this week, but Bev says she intends to keep the diner open. If you haven't tried it, you should! It's a no-frills place, but excellent home cooking - including the pies. People come in asking for just pie & coffee and get turned down. The rule is that you have to eat a meal first, then you can have a piece of Bev's pie. It's worth it!

Rich, Happy Birthday! How do you all remember belly-button days (as my ex used to call them)?? Mine is 10-10, and I feel lucky because it is a pretty easy date to remember so I'm hoping as I get more befuddled, I'll be able to remember that much...but then I probably won't care by then anyway..I can't believe they moved your retirement age...I'm waiting for the gov. to change SS to 70..or maybe they already have...

Tom, I'm sorry to hear about the crime on your street...I can remember my parents never locked our doors when I was growing up....they do now, even in rural SC

Dan, I think I sent you a congrats on your retirement, but if I didn't, CONGRATS! I'm having some glitches with my computer....

07/05/08 11:46 PM #117

Kathy Watson

Lu, I just read your post...8-8-8 is an awesome date...that made me realize mine will be 10-10-10 in a couple of years...

07/06/08 12:08 AM #118

Tom Held

Dick......Never did hear from Rachel. I ran into Mike Wolfe a couple weeks ago. I don't think he is much into computers. I will try to get Vickie to sign in for him.

Lu...........I forgot about Drew. Never here anything about him. Last I heard, Becky was still in California......San Fran. area I believe (?).

Mike & Becky's son, Bo Summers, worked in the warehouse at RC / 7UP for a couple years.

By the way, if you will notice, we are all still awake at near midnight......I guess we are not ready for the nursing home yet !

Wow, it's true, we do seem to be on the computer late at night. I think I must spend way too much time online! What did we do before the 'net? Actually it's been great to keep in touch with far-away family and friends. Instant messaging is great, too. My brother Bill is in China and we have "conversed" several times. Gives me chills to think we are connected this way.

Becky Perry (I don't recall what her last name is now) had come back from California and went through nurses training. Did she return to CA? I thought she was still around here, maybe working at the Carlisle prison? Could be wrong, it's been awhile since I heard anything.
Tom - ask Cassiy's son sometime where his grandma is now.

Jeff and I have another special date coming up (in a few years). Lord willin', we will celebrate our 39th anniversary on 11/11/11.

Luellen Byrer (Miller)

Rich - Just read the card you posted from Joe. Happy Birthday, by the way! The words are true of most of us, I'd say. Thanks for sharing. Who knew Joe was so philosophical?

07/06/08 07:43 PM #121

Tom Held

Lu...........you are correct. I had forgotten that Bo had told me his Mom was living in Vincennes again. I believe he was living with her for awhile at the time. That's been a few years back. I recall that (through Bo) I put her in touch with Judy Stout, via e-mail. Can't believe I had forgotten that !

As Judy said a few posts back, I have the memory of an elephant when it comes to 30 years ago, but can't remember what I did yesterday.

Tom
Just catching up, you are right, my birthday is November 22nd, Jean's is the 24th, If my memory is correct, Jean and Lonnie Moore are the only two in the class younger than me.

07/07/08 10:17 PM #123

Jean Ann Miller (Schroeder)

Pat,

Your right about my birthday but when is Lonnie's?? Also, I think Sharon & Karen's birthdays are around Dec. 7th.
Since you were on the computer, I guess you didn't go to the Gibson Co. Fair...Bill & Kent went to the tractor pull. Kent was in the pull. I heard from Melissa that he had a good pull but didn't win. Maybe next time. At least he could drive it on the truck when he was finished!!!!! Always a good thing!!

Jean
That just shows you that my memory is not as good as it used to be. I (think) Lonnie's b-day is in December.
I haven't made it to the fair yet, hope to sometime this week.
