Francis G. Stein

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I am building on to my garage and its raining so I thought I would check what was going on here. Lue did you see mom at the nursing home, she ate with your mom yesterday. I hope she will be there only a couple of weeks for rehab.

Life sure changes I don't see anyone anymore with these 12hr swing shifts. Even the grandkids are busy. So I thought I would take a vacation with my grandson, something we would remember the rest of our lives.

In July we took off on a 23 day 8000mi motorcycle trip Dustin is 11 yrs old & always wanted to take a bike trip with me. We had a ball. We took our time & stayed on all the two lanes most of the way. I won't bore you with all the details. We seen all the national parks, mountains, rodeo, ocean. Went thur Ill-Ia-Ne-Wy-Mt-Id-Wa-Or-Ca-Nv-Ut-Co-Ka-Mo. We didn't take any pics but did get it all on video, so we have 12hrs of videos to bore everyone that comes to the house.

Bobbie & I are going to Gatlinburg in Oct then I have 3 months to work then retire. I hope after retirement (Son) Kevin (grandson) Dustin & I can spend some time riding the trail bikes and do some touring with Wife Bobbie on the goldwing. The kids are so busy with work & the grandkids in school & sports, it sure will be nice to have time to spend time with them again. I might even be talked into taking (Granddaughter) Taylor shopping Ha Ha

I hope everyone had a great summer.

P>S>  Richard-- I do have one pic of Dustin & I setting on one of the BULLS at the rodeo in Cody WY. Maybe I can get my son to scan it and send it to you?????  Fran.

FYI - Francis' granddaughter (Taylor) and my grandson (Hunter) are quite the item here in Freelandville. The Tony Romo & Jessica Simpson of Happy Street, you might say !

Lu - I can't believe Jeff was on vacation on Labor Day weekend and did not go to Indy.   We must be getting old or something, because I didn't go this year either.

Thanks to all for providing us an update on your summer.  Norman,  thanks for the story about Walter Brewer.  I did not know him and did not know about the accident that took place.

Francis, sounds like a great trip you had on your motorcycle.  Good luck with your retirement.  Please send me a few pictures of your trip if you can get them scanned.

I hope more will update us on what you have been up to.  Ann and I have been out of our house for a few weeks.  We had our hardwood floors refinished due to some water damage last year.  We stayed in my son's condo the last two weeks.  We are back home and getting back to normal.

I spent the summer upgrading to what we call a Check Airman on my Airbus A-320 airplane.  It involves instructing and checking our pilots on flying the Airbus.  I still fly but spend much of my time in the Simulator.  I enjoy it.  More work but fewer hotel rooms per month than when I was just flying only.  Well off to fly from Boston to Philly to Charlotte, but I will never leave the ground.  I will only be in the Simulator giving a check ride to one of our crews.

What I have done this summer?

 Hmm...Still working Mon. thru Fri. 8 - 4:30,

Went to a lot of tractor pulls, (by the way, Kent clinched the points champion in the Midwest Pullers Assoc. for 9500# Limited Pro class)  sorry I had to brag a little...LOL

Bill & I spent a week in Bayfield, WI, Minneapolis, MN(meetings) and surrounding area.  After hot, hot temperatures in IN, we actually wore jackets in Bayfield, WI.  A very nice change for a few days.

Fall harvest began very early this year due to very dry conditions.  Nice that we don't have to spend the money on propane gas to dry the corn as much this year.  Working on pictures of the harvest.  If anyone wants to help fix food for 5 or 6 guys twice a day, let me know....There is never enough time to get everything done!!!

Spending a lot of time with Luke who is 16 months old.  Such a cute age, unfortunately he has no fear of anything.  He seems to always have a bruise on his forehead from falls or bumps.

Oh yeah, we just found out we are going to have our second grandchild the 15th of April!!!!!!

Other than that, just a normal summer in Freelandville....

Francie, I have seen your mother at the nursing home.  She looks very well!  I hope she gets to go home soon.  She's so sweet, today she offered to eat in her room if I wanted to take her place at the table to eat with Mom.  Mom wasn't feeling up to eating lunch today and I was working.  But it was so thoughtful of Mary to offer!

Tom, yeah, Jeff is old! lol  And he thinks it just costs too much nowadays to go to Raceway Park.  He watched the finals on TV, did you?

JEAN!  Congratulations!

Yes Lu, watched Nationals finals all day long on Monday. We (son-in-law & grandson) had actually planned on going, but I was just too tired from the past week's work, plus I have not been feeling well lately.

Can you believe we all used to spend the entire weekend at Indpls..........camping out no less !!  What energy we had back then !

Tell Jeff to go to the NHRA.com page. Scroll down the leftside of the page to "Dragster Insider". This column has lottsa memories & pics of the "old days" of the 60's and 70's.  It is updated every few weeks. Be sure he clicks on "next" at the bottom of the column for access to the column's archives. He will really enjoy it.

Thanks for the birthday wishes Dan.

BTW, are you one of those Duke workers that cause the traffic jam at the caution light at Hwys. 67 & 159 every day about 5:30 pm......just when I am trying to make the turn to go home ???????  If so, you're really testing this Dutchman's patience.

There is also a grouchy old geezer from Edwardsport (name is Summers, or something like that) who has a bone to pick with you Duke boys. LOL

Luellen,

So sorry about the loss of your Mother.  I was glad to see you tonight but wished it had been under different circumstances.  She looked so pretty.  She was an amazing lady.  She has left behind a wonderful legacy in all her family.   I hope you can find comfort in knowing that I care and will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Love ya,

Kathy

Hi Lu,  My heartfelt sympathy to you with the loss of your Mother.  She always seemed bigger than life to me when I was around her.  I certainly didn't realize she was involved in so many things.  THe obituary was a nice tribute to her.

Freelandville held their 3rd annual Octoberfest on Saturday, October 2nd.  The day began with a pancake & sausage breakfast served by the Freelandville Vol. Fire Dept.  Several yard sales, flea market booths, games for the kids,  & the PARADE was held.  Lunch consisted of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chips, chili, homemade desserts & ice cream.  The Improvement Club sold out of everything they prepared for the meal.  Don't know if it was because of the rain shower around 11 AM or because of the politicians, but everyone was in town for lunch! Several class members were in attendance.
