Bobbie Perkinson (Anderson)

Hi all! It was great reading everyone's responses. I got a call from Sandra Thuis tonight and she asked if there was a place to post things regarding our classmates so I thought I would check and found this. She said Herb D. passed away today. She didn't say the cause. Yes, my dad died on May 14th in a house fire. Pretty tragic. He was in great health and would have been 86 on July 14th. We have lots of great support and are doing well.

Bobbie,

My sympathies and prayers to you and your family through this trying time........

DICK: So you put those songs on the PlayList.com player on the website homepage. Hmmmmmmm.......I don't think we have the same taste in music ! LOL

Why no Elvis on my playlist ? I am going to create a seperate playlist with the "King's" songs only on it.

The Corvette song you are refering to is the Neil Long penned "Our Love Won't End". Released in 1966, it went to #7 on the WJPS-1330 Top Forty Countdown. I remember the Corvettes playing it that summer at the Freelandville Centennial celebration. They were set up on hay wagons behind the gym facing the playground. We had a lot of fun that summer. If we could only turn back the hands of time.

Rex Walters made a CD of all the Corvette's recordings from over the years. The CD includes commentary by Rex, detailing interesting facts about each recording. Rex advertised the CD for sale on our Freelandville Dutchmen website a few years ago. He probably still has some for sale. I believe they were $15. Contact him at P.O Box 58(?), Freelandville, IN. 47535. (Grab, isn't that Rex's box # ?)

Yes, "A Thousand Stars" is one of my favs, too. Also like "Mr. Dieingly Sad" (Oct. '66). 'Vettes always did a great job on that one (right, Grab?). I am a big fan of the "Do-Wop" series that airs on PBS a couple times each year. By the way, Kathy Young, who is probably in her early 60's, is HOT !

A lot of the songs I picked for my playlist conjour up memories from a long time ago.

Tom, Yes those are my songs on the Home page. I can't believe you don't like all of them. I will await your Elvis songs. I agree with you about Kathy Young. I watch her on PBS also.

I assume the post about Herb D. is our own Herbie. I will post anything I see in the paper tomorrow.

Bobbie and Sanda, Thanks so much for signing on. Please feel free to join in our ramblings anytime.

Bobbi, I had no idea you are married to Bryce. Be sure to tell Bryce hello and to read way back in this forum. There he will see Tom Held dissing Bryce's Sandborn Bluejays.

08/04/08 11:11 PM #205

Tom Held

I'm not putting down those Bluejays ! They did their best. They just could not contain the Freelandville Fightin' Dutchmen juggernaut !!!!

Ok, let's all sing along....

"We're loyal to you Freelandville,
to you will be true, Freelandville....
for Sandborn is here to meet us
we know they'll never beat us
victory, for Free-land-ville ! Rah ! Rah !"

Hey, you Bluejays are not singing ?

Sadly, yes, it is our own Herbie Donham who passed away today (he had some health issues lately). And recently Gardner-Brockman (his employer) had made some "personnel changes", taking away Herb's job. He and Wanda attended the same church as my family, Bicknell First Baptist, where he was very active. As a choir member, I will miss looking out at his shining face when the congregation would sing the good old hymns and choruses. Please pray for Wanda & family.

Brenda Sue Holmes (Deweese)

I talked to Sandra Yenne tonight and we were trying to remember who is in charge of sending something to the funeral home when someone in our class passes away. We were thinking Patty Stanczak Thompson. Does anyone know for sure?

BICKNELL - Herb Donham died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at his home.

Arrangements are pending at McClure-Utt Funeral Home, 109 E. Sixth St., Bicknell.

This is the only information from the Vincennes-Sun today. I imagine the full obituary will be in the paper tomorrow.

Brenda, I did not know anyone was in charge of flowers. It would be a nice gesture if we had something in place like that.

I added a "Chat Room" today called "Our Chat Room". It may not work well, but we can try it for awhile. I'll see if anyone is on tonight so we can test it out. Just something I thought I would try. You will need to be signed in to talk. Also check out the "Top Videos" link for some new additions.

Rich, hope you don't mind that I go ahead and list Herb's funeral arrangements. It will be great if you post the complete obituary.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 7th, at McClure Utt Funeral Home in Bicknell, from 4:00p.m - 8:00 p.m. Funeral will be on Friday, August 8th at Bicknell First Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m.

Oh, and thanks so much, Rich, for the little birthday reminder! Too bad Jeff doesn't get on this website - lol.

Cathy Griggs just sent me the obituary on Herb. I just posted it under Herb's name on the "In Memory" page. I do not mind at all when you list any information here. I always appreciate it. You are welcome for the birthday reminder. The web site folks hope to automate the listing of birthdays. Right now I can only list the ones I know of. By the way, Happy Birthday in advance.

Bobbie Perkinson (Anderson)

Luellen, Happy 56th Birthday!! Mine will be coming up next month. I don't mind the birthdays as long as I don't start "feeling" old. Remember when we thought 56 was REALLY old?! Oh dear - now we are there. This is a great site - thanks Rich. It is great reading about everyone and will make the 40th reunion that much better with some already being in touch.

Happy Birthday Lu, wish you many more.

Tink, Mr. Dieingly Sad is one of the greats and also one of my favorites. A whole lot of chords in that tune, if I remember correctly, 16 chords. Great playlist. I hadn't heard Pushin to Hard in 30 years. You left out one of our favorites, You Got Your Troubles, The Fortunes, probably in my Top Ten of all time. I don't know what Rex's box # is, I should.

Ruth Hagemeier (Wesner)

Lu..... Happy Birthday and wishing you a vey happy day. Maybe Jeff will take you out to dinner!!

Bobbie.... I hear all about your beautiful grandchildren thru Barbara, you are too young to have so many!!

08/06/08 08:54 PM #216

Tom Held

R.B. -- The Fortunes song is not available on the PlayList search engine.

Have you ever watched the Do-Wop series on PBS that Dick and I were talking about ? Three hours of late 50's / early 60's classics. Most of the artists actually look pretty good for their age......especially Kathy Young (A Thousand Stars). Dick and I have "the hots" for her.

Would everyone please send me an email with your correct birthdate. I do not want to miss anyone's birthday.

I haven't seen anyone in the chat room yet. We may have to have a standing time to sign on.

I talked with Dan Roark in Vincennes last Saturday. I swear he has not aged at all over the years. Honestly.

I was already very self-concious about my white hair and overall "old man" appearance. Now, after seeing Dan, I really feel bad.

08/08/08 07:40 AM #219

Patrick Grabbe

Tom
You have to realize that Dan has kept his youthful appearance by being, "Quite The Man" on the dance floor.
By the way Dan, thanks for coming all those years.

Hey Guys!

Why is it women just get old & men get distinguished looking? (Not that you mentioned any women....)

I want to wish my sister-in-law, Lu, a great 56th birthday!!!!! Make sure JEFF takes you somewhere nice! Have a GREAT DAY!

08/08/08 10:12 AM #221

Dan Roark

Happy birthday Lu Ellen. Tink you're too kind (you also need eyes checked). Grab - I think we need a Reunion/Corvette reunion!!! Have a good day all - going fishing!!!

Danny, I just saw your birthday was July 26th. Happy belated birthday. Hope the fishing is good.
