Brenda, I hope we can plan a 40th reunion. Yes I said 40th. Can that be possible???? Brenda, we would love to hear some of your stories from High School. I can still see you and Jean Ann driving around in her red convertible.

Ruth, Happy Birthday and many, many, more. I can always remember your day since I also have a July birthday. Also, of course your birthday is the same as former Freelandville classmate, John Begeman.

Brenda, Hey! Glad to hear from you....and Ruth, Happy Birthday!

Luellen Byrer (Miller)

It's officially July 23 - Happy Birthday, Ruth! (you're so much older than me - 16 days). My oldest nephew, Butch Byrer, is 48 today.

Brenda, do you suppose there are any teachers alive who taught at West Side? I can't think of any. But, if there are, would they remember how many students attended?

Happy, Happy, Birthday Miss Ruth! Hope your day is fabulous!

Ruth Hagemeier (Wesner)

Thanks to all for the birthday wishes. Although I haven't seen anyone's birthday announced quite like you did mine, Dick!! Daughter Brittany is home this week from DC and she said I didn't look that old, I'll take all the complements like that I can get at this age.

Lu, I am expecting to see your day announced like mine.

Went to the fair this evening for a pork chop dinner, very good. Didn't see too many classmates, saw Brenda chatting on her phone. The fair is not the same as when we were in high school.

Ruth,

Congratulations on the new granddaughter! (Almost on your birthday!) Happy Belated Birthday!!!!!!!

Just got home from the fair. Worked at Tri Kappa's fish stand tonight. Best fish sandwiches around. I did see John Thompson, Theresia Barrett, Jean Ann Neal. All from a distance and didn't actually talk to them. I did tell Theresia last Saturday that she needed to sign on the website........

Glad to hear from you Brenda!!

Ruth, you'll get off the hot seat when someone else has their birthday. My mom must be doing better since you did her hair today. Now I realize why you updated your profile. Congratulations on the new grand child. I hear Steve and Debbie are also new grand parents again. Take care.

Ruth, congrats on your new granddaughter....what a great birthday present! Kathy

Dick....... Wrong Telligman, Mark & Diane have a new grandson. Although, Patty Grabbe has a new grand daughter born the middle of July. Congrats Patty. Yes, your mom sure needed to get out of the house, I'm sure in time she will be back to her old self. Our new grand daugher was born Monday (21st) around noon. This makes Cassie her third and I haven't been there for any of their births. This time we were just getting home from picking Brittany up at the Indy airport. She flew United, said she didn't know much about US Air!!!! I told her it was safe with you at the controls!!

There was a rumer out about Jean becoming a grandma of twins, but I guess that was just a rumer. Had to call Jean just to verify the truth. Jean, thought I'd share this just in case others were wondering!

I keep checking daily for new postings - are you all on vacation?? I know I haven't contributed much, but I have certainly enjoyed all of the news and memories that all of you have posted.

Thanks once again, to Dick Finke for setting up this website (and the old one) so we can all visit and keep up to date. Thanks so much Dick for your persistence (and patience) is getting the Class of 1970 involved on this site.

Hope all is well with all of you.
Ruth, Jean, Tom: Love to hear about your grandchildren -some of us who are still waiting for ours are just downright envious :)

Sorry Judy, didn't mean to ignore you. Have conversed at bit "behind the scenes" (e-mail) with Pat. We were discussing our band's very first job in summer of '67. Probably not of much interest to others here, but it is a special memory for me and Pat.
We played for a gay man's birthday party in the thriving metropolis of Bucktown, Ind. Being our first job, we had no way to haul our equipment. So, we borrowed a VW micro-bus from our organist's uncle. Unfortuneatly, the VW bus had a picture of a Holstein cow on each side.
Hip rock n' rollers pull up in their van with a cow picture on the door......yeah, that's right.....we were real cool !!

Judy, You are welcome. I enjoy doing the site. Tom got me started doing these sites when he had the Freelandville web site. I do get frustrated when more people don't join in, but we will just all have to be persistant and keep trying to get more people to join in. I just like knowing where people ended up in this world and what they are doing today.

Lu, Thanks so much for finding the information on the deaths of Gwen and William. If anyone ever has info on a classmate please post it or let me know.

Tom,

I read about the cow on the side of the van......today you could try to claim it was Chick-fil-A.....lol!

Everyone,

I was down in the area the weekend before last and sometimes when you don't see the area on the news you put it out of your mind (reference point.....the Road Closed signs)
My mom lost everything in her basement and one of my brothers and his family lost their entire home to the flood.
I am a big believer in when the Lord closes doors God opens picture windows.......sometimes you don't see the brighter side but in my brothers case his entire family is safe.......shocked yes but safe

Dan Roark,

Congrats on your retirement.........

Judy - No vacations here, but we are going to Cincinnati a couple of days to goof off. WooHoo. Checking our website for messages is a daily habit for me, too. We have participants from most towns, except maybe Oaktown & Emison? Hello....Is anybody reading these messages from that area? Jump on in!

Steve - I like your perspective on the tragedy of the flood and it's affect on your family. Our stuff is just that - stuff.

Did anyone make it to the Knox Co. fair? Jeff & I went just to eat supper one evening and visit with whoever we ran into. Not the same as way back when....wonder if the kids now think of as "the place to be" like we did? Friday night I went to watch son Derek participate in the figure 8 demolition derby. He won 10 bucks in his heat, but didn't do too well in the main event. But he had FUN and now he is HOOKED! He's fearless. I'm used to that, but his wife Jenna is not so sure. She'll get there.

To All Who Care about the grandmother of twins rumor that Ruth spoke of a couple of days ago?

When Kent was in the mud race at the fair, the announcer,(Rich Chattin) thought it would be funny to say Kent needed to sell his mud truck for big bucks because he & Melissa just found out they were going to have twins!! He didn't contradict the story and many people thought it was true!!! Judy, I'm still waiting on grandkids, too...Don't know about twins!! I'm not sure if we are old enough though!!!

Hi Everyone,
Lu - I don't think there is anyone left who taught at Westside. I hadn't really thought about that but this will be my 30th year of teaching.... we are getting old!
I have had grandchildren of our classmates in class... Jean Ann Powers Neal, Dennis Pinnick, (slmost got to have Ruth's)

Hey Kathy! How are things with you? It is great to hear from people I haven't talked to in forever!

Cheryl Wampler lives in Leesburg GA and will be a first time grandma in December. She is getting a grandson and Linda (Marcoux) and I aren't sure she'll know what to do with blue!

Luellen,

I don't know about you but that took me awhile to learn. I guess age had something to do with it......Richard knows this but a tornado damaged my home in January of this year and cost dollars to fix.....I was able to live in one area of my home why the rest was being rebuilt.........had this happened when I was younger and alot less wiser I wouldn't have seen the larger picture......but that was kind of you to say and I appreciate it.......

So Dick, you are blaming me for getting you started doing this website !! LOL
Hope you don't get as frustrated with it as I was with the Freelandville Dutchmen site. I found out after awhile that you can't please everyone.....and some are not timid when it comes to letting you know they are not pleased !

I have tried to get Mike Wolfe and Steve Telligman to join this site. Both claim they don't know how to even turn a computer on. I will tell Deb next time I run into her. She will get Steve "lined out". FYI: Two of Steve & Deb's boys have "seen the light" and moved from their parent's eastside Freelandville homestead and taken up residence next door (Evan) and across from me (Kyle), here on beautiful Happy Street. (Steve says it's because they couldn't afford anything on the Eastside !)

Concerning the flood....my wife has family in Lawrence County. My understanding is that flood insurance is not available in Lawrence County ? Does anyone know if that is correct ?

. My brother-in-law told us of one lady at Lake Lawrence who had a brand new home and had recently spent thousands on landscaping.....lost it all. FEMA gave her $600 !! Another couple got $1400 for the same type of loss.

Hey everyone! I can't believe it's already August...
Steve, I'm so sorry to hear about all the challenges you and your family have faced this year, but your attitude is awesome...
Ruth, I talked to Gary about our upcoming trip to Indiana and he does plan to stop awhile in Freelandville...I thought he would, but I wanted to make sure...we will probably be there around Aug. 31/Sept. 1 which may be a busy weekend for everyone, but let me know if you'll be available...that goes for anyone else,too...

Brenda, hey back! I didn't know Cheryl is in Ga...I must admit I mostly stay busy working and checking in on the parents...I am hoping to get to the beach sometime in Sept. and I am going to visit my oldest son, Mario, this weekend..he's squeezing some time in for me between the summer school he taught and football preseason practices..

To everyone,

Since we are reminiscing about the past and talking about our lives and today and what steps the path of life has taken us on I thought this Alan Jackson songs lyrics would be appropriate.........

Remember When lyrics

Remember when I was young and so were you
and time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when

Remember when we vowed the vows
and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when

Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when

Remember when the sound of little feet
was the music
We danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when

Remember when thirty seemed so old
Now lookn' back it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are,
Where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when
Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when

Lu mentioned the KC Fair was not the same as it was way back when.

The kids of today still do the same thing we did....run around the fairgrounds with boundless energy, more or less being iritating, rude and getting in the way of the adults who are just there to relax and get away from life's stress for a few hours.

I don't believe the fair has changed.....we are the ones who have changed. We are seeing the fair from a different perspective.....WE ARE THE ADULTS NOW. LOL !

One thing that HAS changed....The Battle of the Bands. I believe in the mid-60's the KC Fairboard called it the "Combo Competition" (or something corny like that).

Our band was runner-up in '67 to The Sygns (Mark Mason, Curtis Scott, etc..). We came back strong in '68 and took 1st place. The winner got a trip to the Ind. State Fair Battle of the Bands. I don't believe we went to Indy.....we knew our limits !

----------------------------------------------------

I was at Wal-Mart Supercenter in Vincennes on Saturday morning and talked with an old, retired gentleman......I beieve he said his name was Dan. Mentioned something about his wife was ready to boot him out of the house ! LOL

By using the PlayList.com feature provided at the bottom of the homepage of this North Knox 70 website, I have created a list of some of my favorite songs and pasted the player on my profile page.
Just click on any song that you would like to hear.

ENJOY !!!!

Steve: Thanks for the great song from Alan Jackson you posted. I posted it on the "Top Videos" link so that everyone can play and read the words at the same time. What a great song for our web site and our group.

Tom; I am on the road but when I have time tomorrow night, I will open a cold one and listen to your songs. I will compare your tastes to the songs I have on the "Home Page". I did a sampling of your songs though and I didn't find one that I did not like. I would still like to hear the song that the "Corvettes" recorded in the 60's. I can't believe though that you have no "Elvis" on the list. My favorite so far and not even a contest is Kathy Young's "A Thousand Stars".
