Dennis Dobbs (1967)

I am so sad to hear about Jerry Poe's passing. He was one of the best men I have known. Smart, honest, sincere, friendly, and outgoing are just a few of the words to describe him.

Jerry and I became friends at City and played in the band. We also enjoyed many occasions traveling, practicing, or performing.

My most heartfelt condolences go to his family and friends. He is resting in peace.

I am so sad to hear of Jerry's death. He has been on my mind and in my prayers for several months now, I knew his health was poor but failed to reach out to him or Carolyn. He was one of a kind and such a wonderful friend. I missed seeing him at our last reunion. He always called me "Little Deb" and I treasured that. Heaven has added another star. Rest In Peace my friend. Prayers for Carolyn and Rick, and the family.

So sad to hear about Jerry.  He was a wonderful guy.  Always had a big smile on his face and full of jokes . He was one of the friendlest and caring  guys I every knew. Missed him at the last reunion and was told he was not  in good health .   Jerry never forgot a birthday and was always sending messages.  He will be missed not only by his family but by so many of us who group up with him and knew him as a friend.

So deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jerry Poe.  Met him at Northside in 1963 and we remained good friends all thru high school at City.  If my memory serves correct I believe we elected Jerry our Class of '69 President which evidences the high regard all of the '69 classmates had for him.

I remember Jerry and I were registered at the dorm at UT Knoxville to be roomates the Fall of that year as we were such good friends, but in the summer of '69 I  decided to go to another school my freshman year. He ways always a great friend and I have many great memories of the times we spent together double dating and going the ball games.  He will be truly missed as one of our terrific Dynamo classmates!!  Rest in peace good friend . . .

Jerry, Jerry, Jerry.  What a great guy!  He always had a smile on his face and always made everyone feel special.  The world is a grayer place now that's he's left it.  My condolences to his family and all that knew him.  You will be missed, Mr. President.

Jerry's passing saddens me. "A friend to everyone" is a bit of an understatement. Put "everyone" in all caps. That was Jerry. When I got to City in the summer of 1967 Jerry and Pam Vadergriff were two of the first people I met. I think we were always friends after that. After Jerry graduated he seemed to always know where I was and what I was doing. I received "Happy Birthday!!!" from him every year since this website was developed. Rest In Peace my friend. Until we meet again!

I am so sad to hear of Jerry's passing.  He was a friend since the 1st grade and will greatly miss him.  Even though I haven't seen him in many years, he always sent me a birthday greeting every year on this site with an uplifting message.  It made my day.  Rest in peace, my friend.  Your family is in my prayers.

Just to echo a common statement, Jerry Poe was a great friend to everyone.  I played with him in the band at City and we both went to Roy Fox for trumpet lessons.  Missed Jerry at the recent reunion.  Rest in Peace my friend.

Also, just heard about Rogers Moore passing away.  Another great guy.  We were all richer for knowing Rogers and Jerry.

I was so sad yesterday to hear the news of Jerry’s passing. The word that kept turning over and over in my mind since then was “kind”. While that may sound like a bland word, it truly describes who Jerry was. He never met a stranger. He would help anyone who needed help. He was always smiling and always thought of others. I’ve read many posts about his never forgetting to say Happy Birthday. That is just who he was. When I moved back home in 1999 , I ran into Jerry at the Jeweler’s Bench at Highland Plaza several years later.  He and Carolyn came to many of my dog rescue events. They even adopted a dog from me. He loved his pets. He loved his family. He will certainly be missed by all who knew him. Rest in Peace, my friend.

I don’t know of anyone from our class who won’t remember Jerry Poe.  His name will always come to mind when I think of City.  He was always so kind and willing to help with anything.  We would go years without seeing each other but he always made me feel like he was so glad to see me.  He certainly won’t be forgotten.  Rest In Peace with all of our other friends who I’m sure were waiting at the gate for him.  You will always be remembered for your kindness and what a great way to be remembered!
