The death of Shelton Goldblatt, a friend, saddens me, but makes me happy to have know him since our early days of playing JV football together as freshmen.  His kindness and unassuming acceptance of people will always highlight his life for me.

I just learned that Joe Smartt (Class of 1964) passed away last June.  He was married for 55 years to Mary Ruty Leber (Class of 1965).  https://www.grantfuneralservices.net/obituary/joe-smartt

I am sorry to relate that Jerry Poe Class of '69 passed away earlier today.  Jerry had been in poor health for some time and was confined to home.

His brother Rick '71 just arrived in Chattanooga from upper East TN to assist with the arrangements.   Jerry will be at the Chattanooga Funeral Home on Hwy 153.   Details of the arrangements should be posted on their website once they are finalized.

Rick can be reached at 423-747-5076 or nimajo@aol.com or through this webpage.

Jerry and Rick were my brothers.  One a year older and one a year younger.  We lived two doors down from each other from the first grade at Normal Park, through Northside, then City.   We went to church together, school together, in the band together, even double dated together.  Then we went our separate ways, but we have always been friends.   I was at their parents funeral and they were at mine.   The stories I could tell are too numerous.

Jerry was a friend to everyone.   Just a good guy who loved Chattanooga and stayed.   I was fortunate to have shared a major portion of my life with him.   We all were.  Rest In Peace my friend.

John Summers '70

I am so sad to hear about Jerry Poe's passing. He was one of the best men I have known. Smart, honest, sincere, friendly, and outgoing are just a few of the words to describe him.

Jerry and I became friends at City and played in the band. We also enjoyed many occasions traveling, practicing, or performing.

My most heartfelt condolences go to his family and friends. He is resting in peace.

I am so sad to hear of Jerry's death. He has been on my mind and in my prayers for several months now, I knew his health was poor but failed to reach out to him or Carolyn. He was one of a kind and such a wonderful friend. I missed seeing him at our last reunion. He always called me "Little Deb" and I treasured that. Heaven has added another star. Rest In Peace my friend. Prayers for Carolyn and Rick, and the family.

So sad to hear about Jerry.  He was a wonderful guy.  Always had a big smile on his face and full of jokes . He was one of the friendlest and caring  guys I every knew. Missed him at the last reunion and was told he was not  in good health .   Jerry never forgot a birthday and was always sending messages.  He will be missed not only by his family but by so many of us who group up with him and knew him as a friend.

So deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jerry Poe.  Met him at Northside in 1963 and we remained good friends all thru high school at City.  If my memory serves correct I believe we elected Jerry our Class of '69 President which evidences the high regard all of the '69 classmates had for him.

I remember Jerry and I were registered at the dorm at UT Knoxville to be roomates the Fall of that year as we were such good friends, but in the summer of '69 I  decided to go to another school my freshman year. He ways always a great friend and I have many great memories of the times we spent together double dating and going the ball games.  He will be truly missed as one of our terrific Dynamo classmates!!  Rest in peace good friend . . .

Jerry, Jerry, Jerry.  What a great guy!  He always had a smile on his face and always made everyone feel special.  The world is a grayer place now that's he's left it.  My condolences to his family and all that knew him.  You will be missed, Mr. President.

Jerry's passing saddens me. "A friend to everyone" is a bit of an understatement. Put "everyone" in all caps. That was Jerry. When I got to City in the summer of 1967 Jerry and Pam Vadergriff were two of the first people I met. I think we were always friends after that. After Jerry graduated he seemed to always know where I was and what I was doing. I received "Happy Birthday!!!" from him every year since this website was developed. Rest In Peace my friend. Until we meet again!

I am so sad to hear of Jerry's passing.  He was a friend since the 1st grade and will greatly miss him.  Even though I haven't seen him in many years, he always sent me a birthday greeting every year on this site with an uplifting message.  It made my day.  Rest in peace, my friend.  Your family is in my prayers.
