Wayne, I never heard anyone call him Ken, was in mechanical drafting with me. He was always happy and had a good sense of humor. Wayne was our classes first death, he only made it a year past graduation. I saw his picture in the newspaper but it took a while to recognize him because his name was stated as Kenneth Hart, but I finally made the connection. It was a shock. He and his girlfriend were visiting his best friend and both sitting on the couch. His friend jokingly picked up a .22 rifle and held it at his hip and said he was going to shoot Wayne. The rifle had been cleaned after a shooting session the day before and should have been unloaded, but it fired and struck Wayne above his eye. He died instantly. Many years later I became an NRA rifle instructor at my shooting club and taught mainly young boys to safely handle firearms and to shoot. I hope my efforts prevented any tragedies like Waynes.
