Richard "Sid" Sabatka

1952 - 2021

Born: September 7, 1952 in Highwood, IL
Died: December 16, 2021 in Crystal Lake, IL

Richard "Sid" Sabatka, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, passed away at his home December 16, 2021. He was born September 7, 1952 in Highwood, IL to Patrick and Yvonne Sabatka.
Sid was a man of many interests and talents. He loved music, art, architecture and the structure and beauty that buildings presented. He built beautiful gardens, and garden structures, both fashioned after the Prairie Style designs of Frank Lloyd Wright. He spent countless hours caring for his gardens, as well as just sitting and looking out at the yard and enjoying his creations and the flowers his wife grew and tended.
He was a wonderful wordsmith and was known for his quick wit and the beautiful letters he wrote. Sid was a consummate host,
and so enjoyed sharing a fine meal, prepared by loving hands, with those he loved. He welcomed all with open arms.
He loved his home, his gardens and his friends. But, most of all, Sid dearly loved his children and grandchildren.
Sid is survived by his wife of 28 years, Christine; children, Megan (Joe) Merryman, Matt Sabatka, and Brennan (Tara Hixon) McGinnis; grandchildren, Clare, Michael, Maeve, Emmett, Declan, Blaise, and Frances Merryman; sisters, Deb Arndt, Patty (Steve) Scheuber, Mickey (Mike) Crowley, and Theresa (Duane) Bland; nieces and nephews Chris, Tim, Theresa, Stephanie, Kate, Natayah, Nolan, Nico and Noah, and great niece and nephew, Gracelyn and Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and P.J. Halvensleben.
Memorial services will be held at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake on Thursday, January 6th, with the visitation to start at 10:00 am, followed by the service at 11:00 am.
