Mike Hass

Mike Hass

Michael 'Mike' Hass            December 9, 1945 – April 12, 2022

Michael Lon Hass, age 76, of Snohomish, died on April 12, 2022, at Lynnwood Post Acute Rehabilitation Center following four months of serious health issues.  He was born on December 9, 1945, to Walter and Betty Hass, in Missoula, MT.

Mike graduated from Edmonds High School and was honorably discharged from the US Air Force in 1966.  He married Gail Hass on December 19, 1971, and they raised one son, Todd Hass.

He bookended his professional career with driving jobs as a Teamster, beginning at Darigold and retiring from the Seattle Times in 2004. In between, his quick, often irreverent wit helped him to thrive in sales and managerial jobs from real estate to retail cars. His eclectic occupations also included barber and Snohomish County tax assessor.

Mike was an insatiable car admirer, collector and gearhead for his entire life. In the days before the internet, he loved scouring the Little Nickel and Auto Trader ads each week looking for his next potential trade or acquisition. He was excited to find rare and well restored/maintained vintage vehicles at car shows. He treasured his friendships and weekly outings with the "Thursday Night Garage Association" of Snohomish.

He was deeply connected his pets—especially the succession of bulldogs that were his constant companions in retirement. He got his first and only tattoo several years ago: a bulldog montage that showcased the name and likeness of each precious one.

He was an avid reader and spent hours reading in his bathtub (or hot tub) nearly every day. His reading interests were expansive, from spy-thriller novels to recipe sites. He liked owning the most up-to-date smart phone and explored (and shared) tons of content from TikTok, Facebook and YouTube.

Mike is survived by his wife of fifty years, his son, daughter-in-law Katie Hass, and two grandsons, Sully and Kellen Hass. He is also survived by family from his first marriage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Kurt Hass.

Mike did not wish to have a funeral or similar service.
In his memory, donations may be made to Bulldog Haven Northwest or the American Red Cross.

I 'followed' Mike on Facebook in his last few years.  He always posted such interesting stuff, from the ever-present custom cars, to the beautiful Scottish landscapes, his pet bulldogs, and the occassional topical commentary.  All were interesting and always in good taste.

I only remember meeting Mike the one time at the EHS64 Guys' Luncheon in 2019.
From what's been said, Mike must've been a hellava nice guy and good friend to many.
My condolences go out to his family and close friends.
