In Memory

Stephen Nofziger

Stephen Nofziger

Stephen D. Nofziger        June 2, 1946 - September 27, 2018

With sadness and grief, we mourn the passing of Stephen Dale Nofziger. Born in Archbold, Ohio, on June 2, 1946, Stephen passed peacefully on September 27, 2018, at his home in Edmonds, Washington. Stephen was the second son of six children born to the Reverend Dale and Mildred Nofziger. He was the devoted husband of Jan Canfield Nofziger and loving father of Sarah Nofziger Bury. The Nofziger family moved from Ohio to Lynnwood, Washington, in 1963, where Dale Nofziger established the family business, Ansonia Clock Company and A House of Clocks, and Stephen met the love of his life, Jan Canfield, as the girl next door. Stephen attended Seattle Pacific University (then College) along with Jan, graduated Cum Laude in 1969, and then went to work for the family business as the financial manager. Stephen and Jan were married in August of 1969 and had one daughter, Sarah. Together, Stephen and Jan built a lovely home in Edmonds and shared a marriage that was the envy of all who knew them. Stephen was a kind, considerate man who loved with all his heart his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and four grandchildren. His gentle disposition contained a quick wit and deep wisdom. He was a practiced handyman, always ready to help. Stephen was a quiet soul, but his love for his family spoke volumes. Stephen is survived by his wife and soulmate Jan; daughter Sarah Bury and husband Peter; grandchildren Ivan, Lucia, Viktor, and Juliana; siblings David Nofziger and wife Judy, Carol Johnston, Margie Webb and husband Curt, Susan Hennig and husband Flip, Jonathan Nofziger and wife Merry; sisters-in-law Shirley O'Mara and Nancy Burn; brother-in-law Brian Slade; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Mildred, sister-in-law Linda Slade, nephew K.C. O'Mara, and brother-in-law Johnny O'Mara. Go gently into this night, dear Stephen. Peace be with you. May your memory be long.

I didn't know Stephen in high school, but was delighted to "meet" him when he and his wife, Jan, showed up at the 2017 Picnic.

I'm glad I got to talk to Stephen if only very briefly that day.  His passing was sudden, made sadder because he was no longer a stranger.

Rest in Peace, Stephen.  I wish I could have known you better.    ~RonR
