OK, now I'm curious... Let's post all the trophy catagories we can remember. I'd like to hear what all we had -- it's getting more and more interesting all the time! Hee, hee!

Shawn Oesch (High)

I agree with Darlene, I think all the awards need to be recognized this year. I must have really been a social outcast because I don't remember anything about this! I'm having fun reading about it though!

P.S. I'll buy Cathy the first drink!
P.P.S. Anyone who knows Erin would know she wouldn't rob a little ole Hucks store...she'd go for a records store so she could buy her Duran Duran albums! Luv ya Erin!

There's an entry in my yearbook from Torry Steffen saying he had just voted for me for Class Moocher. And sure enough...the aware went to me. I'm still not quite sure on that one. And here I always thought I was so generous. Who knew???

Keep the comments coming. This is great stuff for the reunion committee!!!

I got "best smile" that went well with "class drunk". We had the awards ceremony in the band room...was a teacher in charge of these (i'd be so fired for being in charge of these now). I notice that the list didn't make the yearbook...so I think they weren't school sponsored.

p.s. Shawn, thank you in advance for the drink:)
p.s.s. I remember voting Kim Mullins for "class drunk" since she was the SADD president! lol.

Hey, you are all very funny. I have a question. Maybe Cheri will let me post it as an "alert".

This is a long shot, but what the heck.

Does anyone remember the what the big shot was that we got in our arms in 5th or 6th grade? They did it at school. We all lined up and they nailed us in the left arm, like a big air gun. We all have the scar. What was it? MMR? (I have to get some vaccines boostered, and it would help if I new what that freaking shot was.) Thanks.

Darlene-obviously your memory is as bad as mine, so don't bother answering. (Apparently, both of us were mugged in Chi town, as I have no recollection either).

Shawn-you seem to be quite chatty now, maybe you can come through for me!!

What was the question, anyway???
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Darlene Harper (Anderson)

I DO remember getting voted for "Best Personality"! Woo,woo! I guess we DID have some nice catagories.

And I DO remember getting that awful shot! I remember the teachers loading us on the bus so we could go get it. It was like being "herded" onto the bus for a concentration camp or something -- then the waiting in line on the stage to get the shot! (Maybe that's where the term "stage fright" comes from.) Nothing like waiting when you're already scared to death -- wondering if the others are coming out alive on the other side of the curtain!

Come to think of it... maybe that's when my memory started fading... hmmm... Torry, were we the only ones who got that shot?

01/27/09 11:28 AM #28

Shawn Oesch (High)

Sorry, Torry, no can do! Darlene must have knocked me out! HA HA! I don't remember getting the shot at school...I would venture to guess it was the mumps, measles shot (MMR)...but don't know FER SURE.

01/27/09 02:56 PM #29

Cheri Miller (Armstrong)

Okay, you are all making me laugh, so thank you for that! I know I have a terrible memory too. I sure don't remember getting a shot at school, and I don't think I have that scar on my arm either. What's up with that?

01/27/09 10:08 PM #30

Cathy Myers (McCandless)

ok. i remember getting a shot in 4th grade...we lined up behind the stage...gun-like shot thingee. i am so scared of shots too! it was my birthday too. i about passed out.

i also remember my mom doing twinkies for my birthday that day...most moms made real cupcakes or something...this was way before you have to bring in store bought items to share....

the twinkie was so good that day! no scar for me...but i am scarred for life.

Jan Weidner (Arbuckle)

I don't remember any big shot thing...I think you all had the same bad dream. Or maybe I've just blocked it...I do that sometimes!

I remember being in Chicago, but kinda foggy on the details aside from the fact that I also wore my favorite denim jacket! I'm sure it was very cultural and educational and I'm a much better person for having gone.

I do remember our class awards...I got "Best Companion on a Deserted Island" ...hhhmmmmm. I also remember my mother asking "What the heck is that supposed to mean anyway?" I'm pretty sure it's all to do with my top-notch survival skills as evidenced Sophomore year! Can't remember which boy got the same award, but I still have my trophy and if someone will promise to fill it with a shot of booze (nice work, Cath...who knew it was a perfect shot?!), I'll gladly dig it out for the reunion!

01/29/09 11:23 AM #32

Cheri Miller (Armstrong)

Hey, did anyone keep a list of the class awards?

01/30/09 12:23 PM #33

Brad Hanner

I've been laughing to myself reading these posts. For the senior awards I know someone voted me in as having "Prettiest Eyes" (I am CONVINCED Rhonda Kenagy had a hand in that as, to this day, she is the only person that has ever told me that). That little trophy turned up at my parents' house a few years ago--I may have to look for that next time I'm there.

As for the Chicago trip (must've been for ACS??), I remember we went to Oak Park to see a FLW-designed church and we went to a few of the homes he built as well. Somehow we ended up down in the Loop and then road the El to the South Side to go to the University of Chicago to look at more architecture. Some of the details are fuzzy, but there definitely was a Chicago Police Department intervention at one point when we were walking through the 'hood. I think it amounted to, "What the hell are you doing?" followed by, "You shouldn't be here"--or something like that.

I have a question for all you ladies out there, do you think all the girls in schools nowadays still HAS to do those Jane Fonda workouts??? I HATED doing those workouts!!

If they wanted to give us a dose of reality they should have brought in some Twinkies everyday to lift (yeah Cathy's mom!), a 2 liter of soda and we could have asked what we were gonna do for the next 56 minutes!

I also remember that stupid partition they would drop down to separate us girls from the boys...like that really worked! Let's fess up: we ALL peeked!

Now look at all of us....anyone want to add up all the kids we all have? I THINK we get the idea of WHY they tried to keep us apart...but it just goes to prove today: it just didn't work!

Jenny Stoller (Baer)

Senior class officers would be the only ones I know of that would have the class awards info. The awards were handed out after school in the chorus room. I can't believe they were school sanctioned. They were SO not PC! and some of them were downright mean! Others were nice--I remember Renae got most talented and Char got best body.

I vaguely remember visiting homes in Chicago, and I definitely remember seeing a guy peeing on the sidewalk/road while we were on the L. Simenc pointed him out. I've totally blanked on the whole police escort through the "hood". Maybe that was only one group (apparently led by Simenc), and I was in the safe and smart group instead (probably led by Ms. Blunier).

Then again, I was drunk so often between 87-88 that I've lost a lot of memories of that time period. I can't remember most of the entire summer before our junior year, except that I spent a lot of time out at a cabin by a lake in the country somewhere. Good old Denny Clymer! There are a whole lot of things from high school that I hope my children never find out--or do!

I'm mad at myself! I missed out on all the "fun". I didn't drink, do drugs, or fork while in school! DARN! Does anyone know if there was a category, "Most Likely to Remain A Virgin?" I'd like that one, please! I'm still innocent of ALL wrongdoing....like Rod Blagojevich! LOL!

Robin Whittenbarger (Timm)

This message forum is so great! I'm really laughing, however, I am beginning to feel quite old as I don't even remember the Chicago trip and have no recollection of getting shots at school! WOW - no alcohol has ever touched my lips, so I must be in the early stages of Alzheimer's!

I remember getting voted Best Hair - it really hasn't changed much in 20 years. My sister says I need to get on one of those makeover shows. I guess I just really enjoy those 80's hairstyles! I also enjoy playing Pac-man and Frogger while listening to Rick Springfield and Rick Astley. A lot of things were just better and less complicated in the 80's!

I think we should have a display table at the reunion dinner - we can all bring one "piece" of high school and tell stories.

it is great to hear all the stories.. it feels like it has been so long ago..i wish i would have been involved in more things.. but i guess everything happens for a reason.. man how things have turned out.. Torry do you ever talk to Mike Morman?.. i hope i can make it to the reunion

02/07/09 07:21 PM #39

Tammy Engel (Haggard)

OK, it's been a few weeks since I've checked out the message board and talk about missing out!!! Jenny, who knew you weren't a good little girl??? I definitely missed out on some fun. Of course, I actually remember the trip to Chicago, so maybe I preserved a few brain cells. Of course, I'm sure that all changed when I went away to college (Western Illinois).

I don't remember any shots like that, but I think I recall something from grade school. I don't remember the MMR vaccine, but some really bad oral polio vaccine. I'm not sure if that really happened or just some bad nightmare.

I still have my high school award. It's tucked away in my hope chest right next to my high school prom champagne glass. Did anyone else think that was odd that they gave away a drinking glass for high school prom?

Other things I remember...
1. Accounting class with Jan, Rhonda, Melissa, Blake and a few others.
2. Sitting in class our sophomore year and learning of the Challenger explosion.
3. Wresting... mat mates
4. Home football and basketball games
5. Hardees, Pizza Hut...good times
6. Not riding the bus after getting my license.
7. Band competitions, especially the ones at ISU at 8am when it was about 30 degrees!
8. Watching certain boys in football practice with Shelly (Garey) Henke... she knows who I mean!
9. Hanging out in the cafeteria before school...our own little breakfast club.
10. Survivor trip...
11. ACS project
12. Algebra with Mrs. Eckert
13. And so much more!

It all seems to be a blur now, but I do know there were a lot of good times!

Rick Bauman

hello to everyone! I just spent the last 1/2 hour reading and it is great to hear from everyone. I hate to say this as people that fit this mode have become my pet peeve but I belive Melissa Somogyi and I were voted class whiners (sorry to reveal that secret Melissa). I don't recall still having the trophy but I remember getting it. I had forgotten about the Chicago trip, but I do remember the guy taking a leak and going through the hood with Simenc. Torry did you every order all the parts to a 69 VW bug? Robin, you are right about the 80's and the music being alot simpler. Those times do seem alot simpler (of course, now we have to pay for everything as our parents just smile!). I can honestly say the booze thing didn't happen for me until college (i made up for it, right Torry?). I look forward to seeing everyone and getting the opportunity to visit with each one of you. Keep this going!

You guys are so funny. Oh how I wish I remembered more. I have no stories to tell just wanted to say hi and I can't wait for the reunion!

Shawn Oesch (High)

Reading old posts I recall my crush on Mr. Driscoll in Middle School: must be a "Shawn" thing to have crushes on music teachers! Mr. Driscoll signed my EMS yearbook "Shawn, I'll use my own pen. Merry X'mas. Driscoll" Awwww, what a guy!

Do you know that after our high school graduation I had two former teachers call to congratulate me? Mr. Pifer, our middle school history teacher (and I hated outlining too, Erin!) and Mrs. Humphry from 2nd grade at Congerville. I was flattered that they thought of me!... but then I got to thinking that maybe they were shocked I made it through! HA HA!

Hi Teresa!

Kristy Hohulin (Glendinning)

I haven't checked this since Christmas and I am laughing so hard!!!

OK, here is what I can recall!!

Torry, I don't know what shot you missed but I remeber you and Mike (Starsky and Hutch) getting it!! I didn't have to get it but I still remember seeing your arm and you telling me about it. I was scared for weeks thinking they were going to take me next!

I do remeber the Chicago trip! I remeber Mr. Simec having me so freaked out because he told us we only had 5 seconds to get on the L or the doors would close and we would be left!! Although I have no recollection of the police escort, I must of been in Blunier's group too:)

Class awards: I know at the 5 year reunion they read them off, so whoever was in charge might have them (I am thinking Cheri Heinold). I know that I got "Best Couple" and I know it will all schock you to know that Eric Lockart also got that award.

Jenny Baer, I thought I knew you pretty well, I didn't know you ever drank, where was I?? I actually didn't drink in High School, but I also don't remember getting invited to any parties! Erin, you said you stopped drinking senior year, you must have left your glass at graduation because I picked it up an took it to college with me!

Does anyone remember who used to pick up my truck and move it around in the HS parking lot. I came home from a volleyball tourney one time and someone move it down by the bus shed. I am thinking John Schrock, John Yanke and maybe some other football players?? Sound familiar?

02/12/09 11:24 AM #44

Kristy Hohulin (Glendinning)

Oh yeah, one more thing... Robin Whittenbarger eating a pack of powdered sugar donuts and diet pepsi every day at lunch.

02/12/09 01:15 PM #45

Shawn Oesch (High)

Glad to hear from you again, Kristy! Speaking of being scared they were going to take you next...anyone else remember Tricia Gettle getting hysterical and leaving school early one day during a bombing that happened in the late 80's (I think it was the attack on the Persian Gulf, if my memory serves me right). I still remember that after all these years....sorry, Tricia!

Rick, I didn't know you very well but I never thought of you as a whiner!

I don't think anyone is shocked that you and Eric got the "best couple" award, Kristy! You guys were a couple like forever/all during school! I think the only other couple that came close as runners-up was Jason Garkey and Robin Whittenbarger.

Okay, who picked up Kristy's truck and moved it? That is freakin' hilarious! I agree with you Kristy, I bet that's why John Yanke's biceps got so big!
