Lloyd died of complications of testicular cancer in the late 90's after a long battle with the disease. He lived in Arizona at the time with his wife and 2 children and had been a successful sports reporter for a local newspaper prior to his death.

I wanted to post my memories of Lloyd, a dear friend who died of complications from cancer in 1994. I met Lloyd in 1974 as we entered graduate school together at The American University in Washington, D.C. Lloyd was a brilliant writer and gregarious friend. He married Ileen, who attended George Washington University, in 1977. I was there when they met. Lloyd and I were playing tennis and he struck up a conversation as she sat nearby. Lloyd went on to be a sports reporter in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., before joining the Arizona Republic in Phoenix. He became beat reporter for the NFL Cardinals, and was excellent at that. The team still has a courage award named for him because he worked and kept his sense of humor until weeks before his death. At his funeral were the Cardinals coach and many players. Lloyd left a wife and two wonderful children and had a major impact on friends like me. He was a hilarious, thoughtful and loyal friend, and still is very much missed.
