I was a good friend of Bert. Before I got married, Bert and I spent a lot of time going to bars, playing cards, going to Dodger old-timer games, and skiing at Mammoth and Lake Tahoe with friends. After high school, Bert grew to 6' 5". Bert was a lot of fun and very bright. Unfortunately, I did not see Bert too often after I got married. In late 2000, he found out that he had cancer of the esophagus. It did not take too many months for the cancer to take Bert's life. I found out about his passing about a month after. I had not seen Bert in about two years and had not spoken to him in about a year. We had talked of having dinner together to catch up, but it never happened. Bert had moved back into the house in Garden Grove that he had grown up in. Bert's remains were cremated and his ashes were scattered off the coast of Laguna Beach. I still have good memories of Bert. Bert was a good person and left this world far, far too soon. No one should pass on so young.
