From Rene Carrasco - class of 1970 GOODBYE "FERGIE" ....1952 - 2019. WOW....I was told that Wed. Feb. 6TH in the early morning around 2:00 AM, that my childhood friend David "Fergie" Ferguson passed away in his sleep. Fergie was my best friend since 1ST grade . We grew up in Garden Grove, Ca. - back when orange groves were EveRYWheRE . ( BTW - I was the one that name David "FERGIE" around 2ND grade. There were commercials on TV for a beer named 'BURGIE' ....and I thought that FERGIE would be better than Ferguson.....at that time I never heard anyone use that as a nickname ! ) We went to Saint Columbans school, and we were altar boys there too. ( Fergie and I served our FIRST Mass together for Father Davis....man, Fergie and I made alot of mistakes, we even forgot to ring the bells before communion time....oh man. ....I think we forgot some of the LATIN PRAYERS too). We thumbed to the beach, skateboarded, made some of our own bellyboards in his garage with foam and resin with fiberglass ! In the 8TH grade - we even played in a Rock and Roll Band "The X Men" with my brother Rocky. I believe to this day...our Rock Band is the only one TO EVER PLAY in the classroom at Saint Columbans School, for our classmates and Sister Carmel Therese. Thank you sister ! She was cool ! Seriously, she even reminded me of Eva Gabor !..... Fergie LOVED my mothers Mexican Food ...enjoyed hanging out with the Carrasco Family .... my 9 brothers and 5 sisters ....we even had like a Zoo in the back yard that Fergie liked ....all those chickens, rabbits, pidgeons, ducks, turtles and lizards ! In high school, Fergie loved the rock band The Doors...and for a while there...I think that he thought he was Jim Morrison, walking around with long hair, wearing a v-neck sweater with no undershirt, singing "Light My Fire" wherever he went ! Around the College Years, Fergie went to Oregon, and then Washington....so we sort of lost contact for a while. In the early 1970'S....Fergie was instrumental in bringing our Family to become Prayer and Bible loving "Born Again" Christians ! I will always be grateful to Fergie for being used by God to bless our Family ! I talked to Fergie by phone about 3 weeks ago, he was planning to come down from Washington to Carrasco House, and we would hang with brother Rocky and Bobby. Well, it was not to be, and the Lord took Fergie home. In the book of Psalms 116 :15 it says : Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Man, that is great ! Knowing that Fergie is with OUR MAKER ! .....and that's for ETERNITY ! Thank you Fergie for your great friendship all those years - and all the highjinks, surf sessions, orange grove fights with oranges, getting punished at the same time from the Nuns at Saint Columban's, sneaking out past curfew ( in 8TH grade ) with Joe Miltko ( another BEST FRIEND OF MINE since grade school ) .........to visit Dana ( RIP ), Norine, and Laurie, crashing those school dances so we could eat the free food, etc. ! So many experiences ! Fergie - now that you're up there - please say Hi to Our Heavenly Father - Our Saviour Jesus Christ - and The Holy Spirit !!! .........I gotta add..... also a Hi to my Dad Raymond G. Carrasco and my WoNDeRFuL Mother Delia M. Carrasco !!! ..........I will never forget you FERGIE ! Image may contain: David A. Ferguson, smiling, standing
