Marvin, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May you keep memories of your Mom with you always. Rainbow Roller Rink was a great place and many of us spent hours there having fun. We all thank you and your family for our happy memories. God Bless you ~ Judy

Marvin Wright:

Sorry to hear about your mother's death.  Even though you know that she is out of pain, and happier than she has ever been...her absence in your life is profound.  I too spent some wonderful times at the Rainbow Roller Skating Rink.  Skating to the organ music was fun! Since I was not allowed to dance, this was the closest to dancing I ever did!  Many happy memories with my cousins...going around, and around (never learned how to do the fancy skating moves).  Thanks for the wonderful memories!

Marvin Wright,

You and your family have my deepest sympathy in your time of loss.  The only pain now is the pain in your hearts, but she is free and joyous in her reunion with your father.  May God hold you and your family closely while you grieve and provide comfort in your time of need. I am one of those that spent lots of time at the Rainbow Roller Rink too, remember the lights being dimmed, music played with the disco ball turning while we did our thing. Bought my black & white rabbit fur balls with jingle bells on them to put on top of my skates in the laces. I thought I was the cat's meow with those fur balls LOL.   I loved that placed and have some of my best memories of my younger days there.  Again Marvin, you and your family touched so many of our lives that we will never forget.  Thank you and I will always remember the good times there.

It's been one week since anyone posted on here ~~~ where is everyone? Enjoying these cool mornings and wndy days ~

Sam Houston High has some major construction going on right now. I was in Houston last week-end and my sister Shirley, lives just down from the school and they have torn down the ROTC building that was built way after we went there. But the track and tennis/basketball courts are gone....Not sure what they are doing but hope a track is put back although I'm thinking maybe not. We would go to Sam's track along with several others to walk and or run it for excercise ~ had many good conversations while walking that track. Let me know if you know what's going on there.

Judy

They are building a whole new school ~ the ablove link is where I found the info and pictures or the future Sam Houston ~ they now go by the the name of   Sam Houston Math, Science and Technolgy Center High School.~ The old Sam Houston we once knew and roamed the halls of will soon be a newly designed building. Good and bad thoughts on it. Kind of bitter sweet. One more thing gone from our past as we knew it however a great and brighter future for all the students that are there and will be there. At least it stayed a school and didn't become an apartment complex or a truck line lot.

Go Tigers!!

And, at least the name of the school will still say "Sam Houston" unlike Reagan where they changed the name.

Albert Garza (1964)

I was thinking the same thing.  They changed some of the names here in Florida.

THANK YOU, JUDY MAXWELL, FOR POSTING THAT SAM HOUSTON HIGH SCHOOL WILL BE REMODELED THIS YEAR.   THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY RUMORS ABOUT CLOSURES, CHANGES, AND DEMOLITION OF SHHS IN THE PAST.  I AM INTERESTED IN GETTING SEVERAL BRICKS FROM ANY PART OF THE MAIN BUILDING AS A MEMENTO.   I WILL CALL THE SCHOOL OFFICE TOMORROW AND CHECK IF THIS WILL BE AVAILABLE.   IF ANYBODY ELSE IS INTERESTED LET ME KNOW AND I WILL REPORT BACK TO YOU.   MY NAME IS UNDER THE CLASS OF 1962.

I TALKED TO MS. PALACIOS, THE SECRETARY OF THE PRINCIPAL, ALAN SUMMERS. I ASKED HER ABOUT MEMENTOS FROM THE SCHOOL DEMOLISION.   SHE SAID SHE WOULD GET BACK TO ME IN A WEEK AND A HALF WITH AN ANSWER.

Mary DE Lois Finch (Brown) (1960)

Good Morning Charlotte,

I, too, would like a brick. Thank you for doing this.  If we are allowed to have bricks, I have a truck we can use to load up and those of us who want one could have a reunion and disburse them.  I am from the class of 1960.  We had some funds left from our 50th reunion and donated it to the library.  We were alowed to tour the front of the building (offices, library and auditorium).  It was nothing like when we went there.  The building looked in good condition but the drive and parking lot was awful.

Given that we have a reunion in July, would it be proper to make some bricks available at that event?

There will be nothing left for them to hall away...😫

I agree Albert, they can just have a group of us come by ~ we will be the haul trucks for the building. I too will keep up with Charlotte about the bricks, I will go by there again this week- end and see how things are going ~ the article I read about it said this project will take until 2019 to complete, they will have to get the new build done and then start tearing down the old one or the kids would not have a school to go to.

Who knew one article would bring this many to posting....lets see what else we can stir up!!
