I COULD NOT GET A PHONE CALL, EMAIL, OR MAILING FROM ALAN SUMMERS, PRINCIPAL OF OUR ALMA MATER, SO I WROTE HIM TO LET HIM KNOW WOULD IN HOUSTON ON JULY 18TH AND WOULD LIKE TO MEET WITH HIM ABOUT THE NOVEMBER TOUR AND WHAT KIND OF MOMENTOS HE MIGHT BE OFFERING.  HE TOLD ME THAT THE OLD BUILDING WILL NOT BE DEMOLISHED UNTIL CHRISTMAS VACATION AND INTO THE NEW YEAR.  THE MOMENTOS OF THE ORIGINAL BUILDINGS ARE SUPPOSE TO BE BRICKS, PORTIONS OF THE GYM FLOORS, LOCKERS, ETC.   THE DEMOLISION COMPANY WILL COLLECT THEM AND, HOPEFULLY, MAKE THEM PRESENTABLE.  HE HAS DECIDED TO CHARGE A FEE FOR THESE PARTS OF OUR OLD HIGH SCHOOL, SO THAT THEY CAN BUILD UP THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR FUTURE GRADUATES.  $15 TO $20 FOR EACH SOUVENIR.  I INFORMED HIM THAT THIS WOULD BE DIFFICULT FOR MOST OF US BECAUSE OF LIMITED INCOMES.  I WILL INFORM HIM THAT A DONATION TO THE FUND WOULD BE A BETTER OPTION.  WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I feel that I would not mind paying the $20 if it is something meaningful...especially a brick would be my choice.

Caren Reynolds (Cates) (1965)

I would not mind purchasing an item from Sam Houston, especially since it would go to a scholarship fund.  I was expecting a brick but the gym floor and/or locker is intriguing.  Looking forward to the tour. With the later demolition date, are you thinking that it will be later than November?

THE ACTUAL DEMOLITION WILL BE STARTED AROUND DECEMBER 15TH.  YOU KNOW THAT CONSTRUCTION PLANS CAN BE DELAYED, SO EXPECT IT.  THANKS FOR CHIMING IN.

No the tour should be in November. The assistant Principal knew the old school would still be standing, that is why he suggested November. He said it would be one last trip through the old building and then right into the new buildings. Looks like it will be 5 or 6 buildings we will get to tour. The suggestion of a price for the memrabilla is to help the school and he suggested the Sports or Music departments could benefit from it. So we will keep all of you posted and I will be talking to him again next month and see how all is going.

As far as the charge....If you want something you usually have to pay fo it. I bought a sign that was in a silent auction a couple of years ago from Darrell Tully staduim..... out I-10 went to several football games there.....It was a battle to be the last one to sign for it.....but I did manage to get it. I guess they could hold an auction for some of the stuff and see how high a person is willing to go..

Hope everyone is staying as cool as possible. My front porch had 108 this morning when I left for work....Saturday we got up to 112.....So keep cool and drink lots of water.

Judy

Many from Class of '67 would love to go.  I know you told the principal that because of fixed incomes it might be hard on some.  However, I believe most would pay the $15-$25 for memorabilia.  Please don't let that keep us from going.  I am class coordinator for '67 and will send out an e-mail to everyone as soon as you know the date.  PLEASE LET ME KNOW DATE AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE SO WE CAN ALL GET IT ON OUR CALENDARS.

The number of people that have replied they are interested in the Tour is great. The more the marrier!!. I have a list of you and will help to keep you informed. I have a call in the assistant principal that took us on the tour last month. Looking forward to seeing all of you that were there and to see all of you that are planning on going in November.

It will be a great day with all of us in the halls again I sure enjoyed the June tour and am ready to go back. There is a group of us from Pinewood Village Neighborhood ( Pinewood Village is Little York to Lakewood and between Foy and Bentley) We had a reunion a couple years back on Lakewood and have talked about having another one. SO I am going to contact all of them and after the tour we will continue on to the old neighborhood and have some more fun. Scarborough (our Elementary school) has been torn down and we will go by there and into the old neighborhood ~ more plans to come on that.....however if any of you would like to join us that didin't live in our old hood you are welcome to come along. We will be having a picnic lunch at James Driver Park on Bentley. SO I will get back with a date asap......

Looking forward to seeing all of you and also seeing the ones that have called me to ask about the tour and neighborhood reunion.

Have  a great week.......We are predicted to have rain this evening and I hope we do..It is very dry in these here woods!!

Judy

Do you think with such a great interest in joining the tour, we might need more than one scheduled for the fall?
