Ruth said it elequently and well. I must admit, J.D.'s dream does remind me of my father's experience many years ago. His 40th reunion had around 50% participation by his H.S. class, but by the 50th there remained only about 25 classmates (less than 25%). Many of whom made the reunion for the first time! There are a good number of us that are not in great health as it is, and another 10 years is probably not going see us reverse that trend. I'm all for sooner rather than later!

Booty, who knew you were secretly our class writer? You said it so well. I agree with everyone, I had a great time with all of you and can't wait to do it again. If a cruise is what it takes, I will be there. I wouldn't want J.D.to be stranded on board with just a half dozen of you, especially in case the ship ran into trouble. (No, J.D., you cannot fly or punch out from a cruise ship). We better get some Surface Warfare qualified guys to come along, just in case. Hey, wait. Didn't Paul del Santo go to the Coast Guard Academy? Let's get Paul to come too! James

Well said everyone. I wish we could have been there. Hopefully we will be able to make it there before we are older and grayer. Thanks for all the great posts.

J.D., all I can say as far as a cruise is that this lily-livered landlubber will wave bye-bye and wish y'all well from dry land!  I will, however, enjoy seeing the pictures...cheeky

Old!!! Whose getting old?  Don't you guys know that 60 is the new 40? We can get newer parts that last a lot longer now.  Knees, hips, shoulders, are so much better and if you buy the extended warranty there will be no worry for 5 extra years.  And medicines; the portable catheter has made travel effortless, and all those performance medicines have made life fun!!!  Those of us, not necessarily me, who are comb challenged can get reissued a new head of hair. Injections can enhance lip size and cure headaches, eyebrows can be permanently affixed, our heart can be continually monitored by our phone, and if we really need help all we have to do is press the button on the chain we wear around our neck. Life is good! Heck, by the 50th reunion, we'll be better, maybe unrecognizable, but better.

Age is a state of mind.  Eat right, take care of the vessel that transports you through life, don't stop laughing, dont stop dreaming, take that 20 minute walk (10 miutes out..10 minutes back....done)...there is still a great world to conquer and enjoy out there.  Tom nailed it, 60 is the new 40...some things are beyond our physical capabilities but not our phsychlogical abilities.  Stay hungry, Stay strong for each other and for life....Take a white water rafting trip and blow it out!!!!!!!!!!

Just read and caught up on the posts from the last few weeks. Bootie, you really nailed it....thank you for expressing what so many of us are feeling from the reunion and life in general.

Regarding future gatherings, large or small, when Denise Capps Corr moved to Franklin we promised each other that we would get together once a month, not just talk about getting together, but just do it! Occasionally we skipped a month, but we have remained faithful.

My advice to all of you in Huntsville, Birmingham, Atlanta, etc., just pick a date and who shows up - enjoy the time well spent. Do not leave without making plans for the next meeting, dinner, event, etc.

Having Denise in the area has been a blessing to me, and finding more classmates in the area is double chocolate fudge icing on the cake! The Grissom Girls in Nashville are meeting again on Tuesday, October 7 for dinner. If you want travel to Nashville and join us, just let me know so I can make an accurate reservation.

Take care, enjoy the fall weekend, your family and friends.

Judy

I hope all of the class of 1974 is having a great week- I always enjoy reading the posts from everyone on this site, I appreciate everyone still wanting to stay in touch after nearly 3 months since that awesome reunion weekend- Speaking of which...........

Is anyone in the area of North Alabama......or for that matter, from anywhere that can make it in every couple of months or so.....interested in a regular time to get together and share a couple of hours eating and staying caught up w/ one another?? I know the GHS girls in the Nashville area are getting together regularly and having a blast together, as a follow up to the reunion- We've never had an outpouring of emotion and keeping in touch before like we've had this reunion- Personally, I'd like to keep this going as much as possible from now on, and yes, I'm saying as long as we're still Blessed to be here on this earth- I know some folks older than us who get together in the Hartselle area, from Hartselle High School, every month, just to eat and share some time catching up- You could come as often, or as seldom as your time will allow you, no set mandatory attendance, just when you can.....2,3, 10, 20.....doesn't matter, just knowing we can keep it going w/o having to wait 5 years would be awesome.

My cell is (256)303 7598, my email is jrctide@charter.net ......contact me if you'd like to consider this, and if you're interested, I'd be glad to get the ball rolling- The GHS Nashville girls have taken that step, and they're enjoying it so much, I think we all would feel the same- Let me know, and have a Blessed week, folks.

I am just wondering if some classmates would want to come to Eastern Kentucky on a mission trip.  You will be put up at Camp O' Cumberland which is near Harlan, KY.  We can work with 60 children by singing, playing, talking about Jesus, doing crafts, etc.  We can work at the camp clearing a walking trail through virgin timbers, do repairs to some of buildings on campus, go to a distribution sight and help organize the clothes, shoes, toys, etc. We can have some fun excursions to horseback ride through a mountain that begins in Kentucky and ends in Virginia, to ride a 2 mile zipline, to tour an abandoned coal mine.

Tony,

When are you planning this excursion to Western Kentucky! And, yes, I have an interest in participating.

Jim, sounds great....I was talking w/ Debbie Bradshaw Baker the other night.....well, messaging on Facebook......and we thought it would be good just to name a night, a location, and go from there, however many can make it would be great, if it's just a handful, so be it- I will be posting on here in a week or so the first night we're going to try it, and see what happens- Hopefully, it will develop into a regular get together- More details to come soon.

John, Count me in. There were some folks who graduated late 70's early 80's who met once a month at Bandito Burrito on South Parkway for a while. I used to go with my sister to that. They moved it to a bar down town which I wasn't interested in because of my aversion to cigarette smoke. I don't know if they still meet or not.

Bandito Burrito So Parkway has a fairly big room where they often have a band playing. Food is decent for Tex-Mex.

Alisa, that may be a possibility, right now, I'm trying to think of some places we can contact that would allow a large group to meet, but w/o a lot of interaction from customers outside our group- We may even want to think of places where we might rotate, and not be in the same place each time we get together, but that's one of the things we may discuss- I'm going to run some things by Debbie, make a few calls, and see what we can get going.
